Obama Accuses Hezbollah of “Political Assassination”

As US President Barack Obama assured on Sunday that his country commitment to the Zionist entity was “ironclad”, he accused Hezbollah of carrying out political assassination, vowing to stand up to the party.

Speaking at the annual policy meeting of American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), the main pro-Israel lobby in the US, Obama said: “We will stand up to groups like Hezbollah who exercise political assassination, and seek to impose their will through rockets and car bombs.”

Obama also accused Iran of supporting “terrorism across the region, including providing weapons and funds to terrorist organizations.”

The US President said: “The commitment of the United States to the security of Israel is ironclad.”
“As I said at the United Nation’s last year, Israel’s existence must not be a subject for debate, and efforts to chip away at Israel’s legitimacy will only be met by the unshakeable opposition of the United States,” Obama added.

Obama’s remarks were few days after he called on Israel on Thursday to accept a return to territorial lines in place before the 1967 Arab-Israeli war, with mutual land swaps with Palestinians, to frame a “secure peace”.
His call created tensions with Israel, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the call, saying that the 1967 borders were “indefensible”.

Sunday’s speech was an attempt by the US President to ease tensions with Israel, few months before the presidential elections in the US. He tried to “clear” what he had said few days earlier by stressing that the “existence” and the “legitimacy” of the Zionist entity were not “matters of debate”.

For its part the Lebanese daily an-Nahar quoted unnamed sources as saying that Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah will snap back at Obama speech on Wednesday.
Sayyed Nasrallah, will address the people on Wednesday for the occasion of Resistance and Liberation Day.

On the other hand, the Lebanese daily as-Safir said it “wasn’t hard to predict what Obama has meant by “political assassination” and “car bombs”.

The daily said that Obama’s speech “seems as a clear American decision to ignite sedition in Lebanon, and an announcement beforehand of indictment in the assassination case of former Premier Rafiq Hariri.”

According to as-Safir, “the most dangerous aspect in Obama’s speech was that it came in the framework of an apology to Israel.”

OK … moving back to the question of Lebanon

… and as things in neighboring Syria are moving from the ‘field’ (where they have fizzled) to the International arenas of councils, courts, committees …, the natives folksmen & women of Lebanon’s M8 & M14 are headed towards a big ‘“مشكل”‘ (brawl) a helter skelter … A local politico with ‘impeccable praetorian credentials’ tells FLC, the days of the “‘Ecole des Fans’ are over, it’s payback time!”
