US Pushing War Imposed on Syria towards Dangerous Levels: al-Jaafari

NEW YORK, (ST)- Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Bashar al-Jaafari has stressed that the Syrian people have been the main victim of the armed groups’  terrorism.

He made the remark following a UN Security Council meeting on Wednesday during which member states voted on a draft resolution introduced by the UK, France and the U.S. against Syria over alleged use of chemical weapons in Khan Sheikhoun town in Syria’s Idleb province. The resolutions was blocked by Russia.

“”We reject any west-submitted draft resolutions that carry within their folds malicious policies, said al-Jaafari, pointing out that reading today’s draft thoroughly one can conclude that it is an exploitation attempt by the governments sponsoring terrorism.

He added that he informed the UN Chief’s Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura about documented reports on the armed groups’ possession of toxic materials aimed to be used as a weapon against innocent Syrian civilians.

He also said that the so-called “White Helmets” are funded by the United States and are working under the direct supervision of the British intelligence body.

US Pushing War Imposed on Syria to Dangerous Levels

Earlier during the UNSC session, al-Jaafari affirmed that the US administration is pushing the terrorist war imposed on Syria towards dangerous level by moving from a proxy aggression to a direct aggression in which Washington itself is the leader. Under the pretext that the Syrian government used chemical weapons in Khan Sheikhoun, the US launched its prepared flagrant aggression on al-Shayrat airbase when it felt that the terrorist groups are being defeated.

Britain Seeking New  Role in World after Exiting EU

He said it seems that Britain’s Brexit from the European Union might have encouraged it to look for a new role for it in the world by using irrational and extreme statements and positions in this Council. “This reminds us of a criminal role of Tony Blair, his role in the invasion of Iraq 14 years ago after fabricating a lie about Iraqi WMDs,” he added.

The Syrian news Agency SANA reported that al-Jaafari said the US administration preceded its aggression on Syria by exploiting the UNSC international legitimacy mechanisms and submitting provocative draft resolutions which blame the Syrian government for using chemical weapons.

This serious aggression had been plotted long in advance inside the secret rooms of intelligence agencies of Tel Aviv, Riyadh, Doha, Ankara, Amman, Washington, London and Paris, according to al-Jaafari. These are the same capitals which supplied their terrorist tools in Syria, on the top of which is Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization, with toxic chemical materials to use them and accuse the Syrian government of using them, he said, recalling what happened in Khan al-Asal on March 19th, 2013, in the Eastern Ghouta on August 21th, 2013, in  Tal Mins on April 21st, 2014, in Sermin on March 16th, 2015 and in Qnaynas on March 16th, 2016.

Al-Jaafari affirmed that Damascus sent 90 letters to the UNSC on the possession of chemical weapons by terrorist groups with the aim of using them against civilians and accusing the Syrian government of committing these crimes, adding that some of those letters included the smuggling of sarin gas from Libya through Turkey to Syria on the board of an aircraft via a Syrian criminal, named Haitham al-Qassar.

He referred to remarks made by former French Foreign Minister Roland Dumas in 2013 that during his visit to London Dumas was told that a conspiracy had been hatched against Syria aiming at destroying the country and isolating its government due to its anti-Israel stances.

Al-Jaaafri also talked about a report published on the British Daily Mail newspaper in January 2013. The report, al-Jaafari said, contained emails between senior officials in British Britam Defense Company about a scheme approved by Washington that Qatar, in cooperation with Turkey, will fund terrorist groups in Syria to use chemical weapons. He added that documents released by WikiLeaks website proved that the White House has given green light to launch chemical attack in Eastern Ghouta in Damascus in order to blame the Syrian government and provoke taking an international military action against the country.

We all must say no to war

The Syrian senior diplomat pointed out that in response to falsification and disinformation campaigns to justify the military aggression on Syria, the Syrian government on Tuesday sent the Security Council a letter in which the government called on Director General of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in the Hague to send a technical mission to Khan Sheikhoun and al-Shayrat airbase to obtain the truth about what happened.

“This means that we, as a Syrian government, want to know who used the chemical weapon in Syria,” al-Jaafari said, adding that “we all must say no and again no to the war being promoted by warmongers and enemies of law as being an ordinary option while they are enjoying warmth, security and revenues”.
