UN Resolution to Condemn Hamas Fails

By Stephen Lendman

Despite heavy US pressure, bullying and threats, an anti-Hamas UN General Assembly resolution failed to reach the required two-thirds majority for adoption.

The US, Israel, and their imperial partners consistently blame Hamas for Jewish state high crimes against two million Gazans.

The disturbing pattern repeats time and again. Israel launches aggressive attacks on the Strip. Hamas responds defensively, its legitimate right, yet is wrongfully blamed for incidents and Israeli naked aggression when they occur.

Hamas is Palestine’s legitimate government, democratically elected in January 2006, yet denied the triumph it won.

It’s not a terrorist organization as falsely designated by the State Department, bowing to Israeli interests like the US virtually always does against Palestinian and other victims of its lawlessness.

The failed GA resolution falsely blamed Hamas for Israeli initiated violence on the Strip – instead of leveling condemnation where it belongs.

The Thursday vote was 87 nations for adoption, 57 against, 33 others abstaining – less than the required two-thirds majority needed.

The US resolution was an exercise in endorsing Israeli aggression and apartheid viciousness, falsely blaming Hamas for its universally recognized right of self-defense.

Zionist ideologue, neocon extremist, political prostitute Nikki Haley bullied and threatened General Assembly members.

Ahead of Thursday’s vote, she told GA member states by letter that the “United States takes the outcome of this vote very seriously.”

It was reminiscent of her first day as UN envoy, warning other nations, provocatively saying “(y)ou’re going to see a change in the way we do business,” adding:

“Our goal with the administration is to show value at the UN, and the way we’ll show value is to show our strength, show our voice, have the backs of our allies and make sure our allies have our back as well.”

“For those who don’t have our back, we’re taking names. We will make points to respond to that accordingly.”

As Trump regime UN envoy for nearly two years, she sounded and acted like Samantha Power on steroids, a bully like other regime extremists, a virtual wrecking crew, hostile to world peace and virtually everything just societies hold dear.

In GA remarks ahead of the vote, Haley repeated long ago discredited Big Lies about Hamas, ignoring Israeli crimes of war, against humanity, and slow-motion genocide against all Palestinians.

She lied calling Hamas “a terrorist organization.”

She lied saying Hamas “openly calls for the destruction of Israel.”

She lied accusing Hamas of inflicting harm on the Palestinian people.

She lied blaming Hamas for humanitarian crisis conditions caused by Israeli actions.

She ignored nearly a dozen years of Israeli-imposed suffocating/flagrantly illegal blockade on the Strip – unrelated to security, solely for political reasons.

She ignored repeated examples of Israeli state terror and ruthless apartheid rule, inflicting enormous harm on two millions Gazans and all Palestinians in the Territories.

She lied calling failure by GA members to (unjustifiably) condemn Hamas “a historic wrong.”

She lied claiming condemnation of Hamas “is an essential step” toward achieving conflict resolution – a notion the US and Israel categorically reject, along with Palestinian statehood the way it should be they’ll never accept.

She lied conflating anti-Semitism with legitimate criticism of Israeli actions.

She lied claiming “(f)or the sake of peace, and for the sake of this institution,” the GA should adopt the unacceptable US resolution.

The measure aimed to shift world attention away from Israeli high crimes by blaming Hamas for Netanyahu regime state terror on the Strip and its people – along with land theft, settlement construction, other flagrant violations of international law against Palestinians, and its undeclared war on Syria.

Hamas warrants universal support for resisting Israeli apartheid rule. In response to Thursday’s vote, its spokesman Sami Abu Zahri tweeted:

“The failure of the American venture at the United Nations represents a slap to the (Trump regime) and confirmation of the legitimacy of the resistance.”

Thursday was Haley’s last hurrah as Trump regime UN envoy. She’ll leave the post in days to pursue other interests, including her likely presidential ambitions.

According to Bloomberg News, Trump will announce State Department spokeswoman/former Fox News pseudo-journalist Heather Nauert to succeed Haley as regime UN envoy.

She has no diplomatic experience like Haley, both figures extremist geopolitical know-nothings.

Nauert reportedly is a Trump loyalist. Former secretary of state Rex Tillerson once complained that she’s “more loyal to the West Wing than the State Department.”

The UN post requires Senate confirmation, most often rubber-stamp, Nauert to represent Washington’s imperial agenda the way she’s done as State Department spokeswoman.

UN General Assembly urges israel (apartheid state) to end their illegal occupation of the Golan Heights

UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY URGES ISRAEL TO COMPLETELY WITHDRAW FROM GOLAN HEIGHTS

Source: sputniknews.com

The vote followed US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley’s announcement that Washington plans to reject a UN General Assembly resolution on the Golan Heights region given the document’s “anti-Israel bias”.

A resolution urging Israel to withdraw from the entirety of the Golan Heights has been adopted by the majority of the countries represented in the UN General Assembly (UNGA).

The Syrian Golan resolution was approved by a vote of 99 in favor, 10 against and 66 abstentions during the UNGA’s Friday session.

The document declared that Israel’s decision to extend its legislation on the Golan Heights is null and void and that the Jewish state should withdraw from the strategically-important territory.

Munzer Munzer, acting charge d’affaires of Syria’s permanent delegation to the UN, accused Israel of continuing to occupy “a precious part of our land” as Syrian people there “continue to suffer because of this occupation.”

“My country reiterates that Syria’s sovereign right over the occupied Syrian Golan up to the June 4th 1967 line is not up for negotiation or relinquishment, nor can it ever be subject to prescription, and that our occupied lands and rights will be fully restored to us and Israel and its settlers must leave our lands in the Golan sooner or later,” Munzer was cited by the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) as saying.

In mid-November, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley signaled Washington’s desire to vote against the UNGA resolution, referring to the document’s “anti-Israel bias, as well as the militarization of the Syrian Golan border and a worsening humanitarian crisis.”

Earlier, the Israeli newspaper Hayom quoted US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman as saying that he believes that Washington could recognize the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights as part of the Jewish state. He added that he expects the Golan Heights to remain under Israeli control “forever”, and that he “cannot imagine a situation” in which the area is returned to Syria.

US National Security Advisor John Bolton, for his part, said that the Trump administration was not discussing any possible recognition of Israel’s annexation of the Golan Heights.

The UN, which did not recognize Israeli sovereignty over the region, brokered a Syrian-Israeli armistice in 1974, urging Israel to leave parts of the Golan Heights.

In 1981, Israel adopted a law extending its jurisdiction over the territory, de-facto annexing the Golan Heights. The law has never been recognized internationally, and the dispute between Syria and Israel over the territory has yet to be resolved.

UN General Assembly Adopts 5 More Resolutions in Favour of Palestine

UN General Assembly Adopts 5 More Resolutions in Favor of Palestine

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) voted, on Friday evening, in favor of five resolutions on Palestine and a sixth resolution on the Golan Heights, WAFA correspondence reported.

One of the most important resolutions adopted today, by the UNGA, called on member states not to recognize any measures taken by Israel in Jerusalem and to maintain the current status quo in the holy city. The resolution also rejected the recent relocation, by the United States, of its Israeli embassy to Jerusalem.

Commenting on the voting, Palestine’s Permanent Observer to the UN, Riyad Mansour, said that “by voting in favor of the five resolutions, the international community affirms its support of our national cause, despite the efforts made by the US administration in international forums to resist this.”

The UNGA also adopted a sixth resolution on the occupied Syrian Golan, demanding the withdrawal of Israel from all of the territory and affirming Syria’s sovereignty over it, in line with the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council.

This is the second such move by the UN in less than two weeks. On November 17, the UNGA voted in favor of eight resolutions on Palestine and a ninth on the Syrian Golan Heights.

Anti-Assad UN Commission of Inquiry on Syria (COI)

By Stephen Lendman
Source

There’s nothing independent about the COI. Established in August 2011, it’s headed by pro-Western Paulo Sergio Pinheiro.

Mandated to investigate human rights abuses in Syria, it operates largely as an imperial tool. Time and again, it falsely accused Assad of crimes Syrian forces had nothing to do with.

It consistently ignores Pentagon-led terror-bombing, responsible for vast destruction and tens of thousands of Syrian civilian deaths, the horrific toll increasing daily.

Its reports are hugely biased, disregarding or ignoring core issues, blaming government forces for CW use and other atrocities committed by US-supported ISIS and other jihadists.

Earlier the COI lied claiming “(g)overnment forces continued to deliberately target civilians, including through the use of chemical weapons against civilians in opposition-held areas.”

It lied saying Syrian warplanes “used sarin in Khan Shaykhun, killing over 80 people, most of whom were women and children.”

The incident happened days after Syrian forces were falsely accused of using “toxic substances” in Hama province.

Accusations about government use of CWs are fabricated, the COI going along with countless Big Lies during nearly eight years of endless war.

No evidence indicates Syrian, Russian, Hezbollah, or Iranian responsibility for CW attacks or other atrocities. Clear evidence proves the culpability of US-supported terrorists, as well as Pentagon and partnered forces in the country.

The COI earlier lied claiming Syrian warplanes bombed “medical facilities” – a US, NATO, Israeli, Saudi, UAE speciality, no evidence ever indicating Syrian responsibility for targeting hospitals or other non-military sites.

The COI falsely calls US aggression in Syria “civil war.” There’s nothing remotely “civil” about it.

On November 28, COI’s latest report called for “the Syrian State to account for the fate and whereabouts of detained and missing individuals countrywide,” adding:

The commission further calls for Damascus “to take a number of essential steps to address the most pressing concerns of both the victims and their families on this matter, including acknowledging the truth about how victims perished, revealing the whereabouts of their remains, and promptly, thoroughly, transparently, and independently investigating all custodial deaths, as well as deaths resulting from summary or extrajudicial executions.”

An earlier COI report falsely accused Assad of “extermination,” calling it “a crime against humanity.”

The commission, in cahoots with the US and NATO, blames Assad for Nuremberg-level high crimes committed by Washington, its imperial accomplices, and terrorist foot soldiers.

It failed to address near-daily US-led terror-bombing, notably the rape and destruction of Raqqa, massacring tens of thousands of defenseless Syrian civilians – on the phony pretext of combating ISIS Washington created and supports.

Since the Obama regime launched naked aggression on Syria in March 2011, high crimes committed by its forces and allies have been consistently ignored – by the COI, world community, and supportive media.

Throughout years of war, Assad has been responsibly involved in defending his country and people against what he justifiably called “invaders.”

It’s a vital campaign warranting high praise, not condemnation or blame for US-led high crimes committed against the country and its people.

A Final Comment

On Wednesday, Russia’s Defense Ministry warned about (US-supported jihadists) planning a CW attack against Kurdish forces in northern Syria – a pretext for more US, UK, French terror-bombing of Syrian sites, Damascus to be falsely blamed again for use of banned weapons.

The US-staged false flag is planned for Deir Ezzor province, according to Russia’s Defense Ministry, saying ISIS terrorists (trained in Jordan by Pentagon contractors) are filling mortar shells with toxic agents “to carry out a strike” to be falsely blamed on government forces.

Russia is monitoring the situation closely. Its S-400 and S-300 air defense systems can down hostile aircraft, cruise and ballistic missiles.

The only language Washington and its imperial partners understand is force. It’s long past time for Russia to act against US, NATO, and Israeli air attacks on Syrian targets – high crimes of war never to be tolerated.

Would taking this action risk East/West confrontation, possible nuclear war? Failure to act against US-led aggression assures more of it, including along Russia’s borders, risking they’ll be aggressively crossed.

Years of Kremlin diplomatic outreach to Washington and its allies over Syria and other conflicts failed to stop US-led aggression.

Challenging it forcefully is the only way to get Washington’s attention. Failure to act will let things fester and worsen. Appeasing bullies is wrongheaded. It never works.

Perhaps the best way to prevent global war with nukes is by confronting Washington forcefully enough to show its bullying no longer will be tolerated.
