Sayyed Nasrallah Welcomes Idlib Accord: Hezbollah to Remain in Syria

Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Nasrallah announced that this year was the year of ISIL’s end militarily in the region, saying Hezbollah will remain in Syria until further notice.

In a televised speech marking the tenth night of Muharram in Beirut’s southern suburb on Wednesday, Sayyed Nasrallah said Hezbollah will remain in Syria as long as the Syrian administration views our presence as necessary. “As long as the Syrian leadership needs us we will stay there.”

Sayyed Nasrallah delivers a televised speech on the tenth night of Muharram“No one can force us out of Syria. We will stay there until further notice.”

“We will remain there even after the Idlib accord,” his eminence said, referring to a Russian-Turkish deal on Idlib, but indicated that the quietness of the fronts and less number of threats will naturally affect the number of Hezbollah fighters present. “With the Idlib accord, if everything is done correctly, we can suppose that Syria will head towards a great calm, and in concrete terms there will no longer be front lines.”

The leader welcomed the outcome of the Iranian, Russian and Turkish diplomacy to spare Idlib a military offensive that could have led to a catastrophic humanitarian situation, saying it was a step towards political solution in Syria but urged a careful implementation of the agreement. On Monday, Russia and Turkey agreed to exclude the military solution in Idlib in favor of enforcing a new demilitarized zone in Syria’s Idlib region from which terrorists will be required to withdraw by the middle of next month.

“This year is the year of ISIL’s end militarily in the region, and this is a great and very important victory for the region and salvation from a great ordeal,” Sayyed Nasrallah said.

Sayyed Nasrallah tackled the continuous Israeli attacks on Syria, saying they have nothing to do with transfer of arms to Hezbollah. “A lot of Israeli attacks on Syria have nothing to do with arms transfers to Hezbollah and Israel is seeking to prevent Syria from obtaining missile capabilities that guarantees it a balance of terror,” Sayyed Nasrallah indicated.

The Zionist army claimed Tuesday that strikes a day earlier on Latakia targeted a Syrian facility that was about to transfer weapons to Hezbollah on behalf of Iran.

“The Israeli attacks on Syria are only connected to the Israeli-US-Saudi fiasco. Such attacks on Syria had become unbearable anymore, it must be stopped,” Hezbollah’s S.G. pointed out. “The continuous Israeli aggression against Syria is being carried out under various excuses and claims that Iran is arming Hezbollah in Latakia are totally baseless,” he added.

Hezbollah leader elaborated on US influence on some internal and regional axes, saying: “We view the US administration as an enemy, however, others in the region consider it a friend and ally. I ask the Lebanese who have different viewpoints towards the US administration, can you give us a clue on its friendship?”

“I ask US allies in the region, Is consolidating ‘Israel’ in the favor of the Arab peoples? Is America a friend of the Palestinian people as it fights them to deprive them of their right to have their own state? Is America’s boycott of UNRWA in the interest of Palestinians and Lebanese? Is [US President Donald] Trump’s recognition of Al-Quds as the Israeli capital in the favor of the Palestinian people? Is it not the US who came with Takfiri groups to the region?” Sayyed Nasrallah wondered.

He said Washington was helping the Saudi-led coalition in its war on Yemen, and warned all regional actors about the consequences of cooperating with the US in its plots against the region.

“The US is threatening the people of the region by imposing sanctions on them. The US administration had even become fed up with the International Criminal Court and threatened to take measures against it,” his eminence said, assuring that the real ruler in some Arab and Islamic countries was the US ambassador.

He also said the US was the one pushing towards naturalization in Lebanon in favor of ‘Israel’. “Who’s in favor of a demographic change in Lebanon and Syria? we are before countries and political forces who are obstructing the return of refugees.”

“Who in some Arab and Islamic countries would dare to condemn the US interference in internal affairs? Isn’t the way the US is dealing with the Palestinian cause has its effect on Lebanon?”

Supporters gather to salute their leader in the tenth night of Muharram

Sayyed Nasrallah, however, praised the Iraqi people who were able to reject the US dictations despite pressure and threats.

Relatively, his eminence said Lebanon cannot be separated from what’s happening in the region. “Dissociation is a serious controversial issue in Lebanon, as the events in the region are critical for the Lebanese people. Had ISIL controlled Syria, what would have the destiny of Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan and Gulf states been?” All Lebanese parts, he said, intervened in the Syrian crisis each according to their capabilities.

His eminence also accused the US of prolonging ISIL’s presence in some areas Northeast of Syria. “ISIL is being transferred to Afghanistan, Pakistan, Egypt and Yemen via US helicopters,” he said.

In the meantime, Sayyed Nasrallah said the case of East of Euphrates was linked to the US decision, calling on the Kurds not to bet on Washington. He addressed Kurds in Syria by saying that “Washington could abandon you at any price, I urge you to negotiate with the Syrian government.”

Turning to the stalled Cabinet formation process, the Hezbollah leader said “obstruction and paralysis” were prevailing, but assured that no one can eliminate anyone in Lebanon. He said in this context that Hezbollah will submit anti-corruption and anti-backup bills.

“Those who are conspiring on our region, like US, ‘Israel’ and who stand behind them, will not concede defeat,” Sayyed Nasrallah pointed out, uncovering that Hezbollah was exposed to threats like threats of an upcoming war, “but they are more psychological than factual.”

Hezbollah’s leader warned that what’s being written and said via social media was part of a war scheme against Hezbollah. “All of this propaganda aims at distorting Hezbollah’s image and credibility.”

However, he called on people to be wise in what they post and share on social media and to remain cautious.

At the end of his speech, the S.G. said the resistance in Lebanon was the first to make victory in Lebanon and the region. “Those leaders, men, officials and incumbent environment are the ones who kicked ‘Israel’ out of Lebanon and made the first Arabic historical victory,” his eminence added. “Hezbollah fighters are the ones who repelled the most dangerous catastrophe that could have plagued Lebanon and the region.
Addressing those who are waging a campaign against Hezbollah, Sayyed Nasrallah said: “you will eventually fail in this psychological war because we base our readiness to sacrifice on our beloved Imam Hussein (AS) who is the symbol of dignity and sacrifice.”

Sabra and Shatilah Day. Very few sections of the calendar are associated with such sadness and savagery.

First though, a momentary flashback. When the Jewish terrorists who would found the artificial ‘Israeli’ regime began Plan D, i.e. the ethnic cleansing of Palestine aka the Nakba, there were a series of massacres they perpetrated that defied the parameters of humanity and reminded the world that Satan walks the Earth in human form. For Palestine itself, there was Deir Yassin, executed by the Stern and Irgun gangs, as well Dueima, carried out by the Haganah, in which upwards of 100 Palestinians were slaughtered, including children who were beaten dead with sticks and mothers and fathers who were pushed into their homes, locked in and dynamited.

For Lebanon, there’s Salha, where bloodthirsty Jewish colonizers marched 105 Lebanese men, women and children into the village’s small masjid and didn’t stop shooting until everyone was dead, along with Houla, where Jews burned 85 Lebanese civilians alive and ethnically cleansed nearly 11,000 Lebanese from their lands. In modern times, we think of the barbarity displayed in Jenin during the Second Intifada as well as Operation Cast Lead in 2008-2009 and Operation Mighty Cliff in the summer of 2014.

Yet nothing in the history of the usurping Zionist entity compares to the slaughter at aforementioned Sabra and Shatila which began on this day 36 years ago and ended on September 18th. The fanatical and hateful Phalangists, armed to the teeth, financed, trained and logistically supported by ‘Israel’, monstrously and sadistically slaughtered around 3,500 Palestinians and Lebanese Shi’a for 72 hours, engaging in the kind of debauched killing that you’d think only existed in horror movies. Pregnant women with their babies cut out of their stomachs. Men were sliced with knives from their genitals to their throats. Children had their skulls cracked wide open. Corpses were mutilated.

And ‘Israel’ was in the thick of it, not merely overseeing it but directly participating with IOF commandos embedded in the ranks of their proxies and IOF gunnery operators shelling any soul who somehow got away from the butchery. They encircled and sealed off the camps so the carnage didn’t stop. Sharon (Scheinermann), Begin (Biegun) and Shamir (Yezernitsky), the architects of the mass murder, never paid for their crimes in this life. Thankfully though, they’re all now roasting ruthlessly in Saqar while the victims of Sabra and Shatilah are with their Lord (SWT), His Holy Prophet (S.A.W.W.) and His Martyrs (R.A.) in peace.

Think about the atrocities and depravities just described. What comes to mind? If your answer isn’t Ashoura, the 10th day of Muharram, then you’re not pondering hard enough. Imam Hussein (A.S.) and his Caravan were surrounded on every side by Yazid’s (L.A.) mercenaries with zero possibility of escaping. Aba Abdallah (A.S.) himself was tortured and beheaded. His children were maimed and murdered. The women among his partisans were violated before being exterminated. The survivors were forever traumatized though they persevered to sustain the legacy of resistance of Sayyed al-Shouhada (A.S.), like Imam Zayn al-Abideen (A.S.), who cried everyday for two decades to mourn his father and his Ashoura compatriots. The stain of blood and scent of murder permeate Karbala’s sands to this day.

Meditating on all of this, it wouldn’t be farfetched to say that ‘Israel’–the absolute Yazid (L.A.) of our time– and its Phalangists–let’s call them the Army of “Christian” Zionist Shimrs–were using Ashoura as a blueprint in their wanton slaughter of innocents at Sabra and Shatilah, whose streets still reek of death as of right now. After all, we know that ‘Israel’ studies Islamic theology, eschatology and history so it can pervert them and use them to spread fitnah. And those very innocents we brought up, whether they knew it or not, were invoking the Mouqawamah and Sumoud of Imam Hussein (A.S.) and the Karbala 72 by staying on their land and refusing to submit to the occupation of the ‘Israeli’ enemy. Even if it meant being disconnected from life.

That the anniversary of Sabra and Shatilah this year falls right in the midst of Muharram’s first ten days presents the chance for us to reconcile each of the two tragedies and fuse them, turning them into invocations of outrage and a rallying cry to mobilize like-minded, Anti-Parasitic individuals against oppression, tyranny, occupation, colonization and hegemony. As we say often: Remembrance is Resistance.

‘Israel’ and its tools, whether it is the Phalangists of yesteryear or the Takfiri Goy Golem of today, as well as its partners like the megalomaniacal, anti-Shi’a, crypto-Jewish Saudi autocrats, can kill civilians across our region and pretend that such crimes provide security. But in reality, all they’re doing, is delaying their inevitable demise while ingraining militant opposition to their felonious power in the hearts of the pure and Godwary. And when we remember what the Zio-Tumor and whoever serves it did to our people, be they in occupied Palestine or Sabra and Shatilah of Lebanon, Yemen or Syria, Iraq or Nigeria’s Zaria, Iran or occupied Kashmir or beyond, we are pushing back against the drive of the “chosenites” to erect their JNWO on our corpses. We’re putting an imprint on the DNA of the aeons that we shan’t be forgotten.

When we scream “Labaykah ya Hussein (A.S.)!” and “Labayki ya Zaynab (A.S.)!”, we aren’t merely immersing ourselves in the simultaneous, somewhat paradoxical agony and victory of Ashoura 1,338 years ago. Beyond that, we’re declaring that Karbala breathes in every oppressed nation and every oppressed person and that Ashoura is a mindstate of counter-despotism, not solely an excruciating incident in Islamic (and human) history. Sabra and Shatilah are Karbala. And their martyrs are the martyrs of a struggle that has raged between the Imam Hussein (A.S.) of the age and the Yazid (L.A.) of the epoch every year, decade and century since 680. We commemorate their sacrifices today. So tomorrow… We can ink their names in ruby calligraphy on the domes of Sakhra and Aqsa when we send ‘Israel’ to the grave–a fate it was destined to have from the very millisecond it abominably came into illegitimate existence.

Leave it to Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, the Luminous Light of Lebanon, to turn Tasu’a, the 9th Day of Muharram and what we call Ashoura Eve (the 24-hour period before Imam Hussein’s [A.S.] martyrdom on the sands of Karbala), into a bonafide, empire-shaking spectacle of Mouqawamah. The Hizbullah Secretary-General covered the usual array of topics as he appeared live before a blistering crowd in Dahiyeh’s Sayyed al-Shouhada Complex, saluting the Syrian people for their steadfastness in the face of the “regime change” conspiracy and lambasting the American ZOG for attempting to break off Raqqa and Deir Ezzor from Syria in service of ‘Israel’, but it was when the Sayyed touched on Yemen that those in attendance really went HAYWIRE, masha’ALLAH! The moment that Sayyed Abou Hadi slammed the Saudi regime for its criminal massacre at the funeral in Sanaa three days ago, the gorgeously resistant people of the Southern Beirut Suburbs started chanting, “Death To Al-Saud!” So loud were their cries in fact that the Wahhabi tyrants themselves could most likely hear it in their fortified but finite palaces in Riyadh and Jeddah! And when Nasrallah bellowed “Koulina al-Yemen (We Are All Yemen)!” like only he could bellow, the crowd cried out in unison and erupted even further, like a zillion bursts of thunder rattling the skies. Lubnan’s Liberator said that the blood of the Yemeni people will drag Al-Saud into the abyss of history and that it has no chance whatsoever of prevailing. The Moustazafeen of Yemen, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah matter-of-factly said, will be and already are victorious. Like he has been Palestine’s undisputed champion for decades, the Sayyed is, without a doubt and without competition, the foremost champion of Yemen on Earth.

While there are millions of Shi’a marching for Ashoura Eve today, from Syria to Turkey, Iraq to Bahrain, Iran to Azerbaijan, Afghanistan to Pakistan, India to America, Europe to Africa and beyond, there is nobody and nothing that exemplifies the meaning of this sacred occasion like Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah. Tasu’a is traditionally observed as the day that we honor Abou Fadhl al-Abbas (A.S.) and his sacred defense of Imam Hussein (A.S.) until life departed from his body on the points of arrows. Who else but the leader of Hizbullah is worthy of being called the Abou Fadhl al-Abbas of our time, as he upholds a sacred Husseini defense of beloved, precious, steadfast Syria, our compass aka the Palestinian cause, and of course, beloved, precious, mighty Yemen? Who?! Verily, there is nobody else. So in addition to “We Are All Yemen!”, “Death To Al-Saud!” and “Ya Abbas!”, there is one more chant which should be added to the obligatory list of sanctified slogans to be yelled on Tasu’a from now until Imam al-Mahdi’s (A.S.) awaited return: “Labaykah Ya Nasrallah!”

Sayyed Nasrallah Calls on Iraqis to Beware US Deceptive Plot: Strike, Arrest ISIL Terrorists in Mosul

October 12, 2016

Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah addressed on Wednesday the Iraqi leadership, government, army and popular mobilization forces, calling on them to strike, arrest and jail ISIL terrorists and commanders in Mosul.Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah

In the context of his speech during Hezbollah crowded ceremony to mark the Tenth of Muharram in Beirut’s Dahiyeh, Sayyed Nasrallah said that all the Iraqis have repeatedly defeated ISIL terrorists in various cities and must continue their confrontation.

Sayyed Nasrallah said that the Americans intend to repeat Fallujah plot when they opened a way for ISIL to escape towards eastern Syria before the Iraqi warplanes targeted the terrorists’ convoy, warning that the same deceptive scheme is possible to be carried out in Mosul.

Highlighting that Iraq heads towards a strategic victory against ISIL, Hezbollah leader added that the Iraqi army and popular forces must defeat ISIL in Mosul in order to prevent them from going back to Iraq and launching attacks against all the Iraqis.

“ISIL oppressed and massacred all the Iraqi segments and the Iraqi army and popular forces must defeat it in Mosul; otherwise, they will be obliged to move to eastern Syria in order to fight the terrorist group.”

Sayyed Nasrallah emphasized Saudi war on Yemen does not have political goals and has turned to reflect KSA regime’s grudge and hatred towards the Yemenis whose country has been always the land of civilization unlike the desert of Najd, adding Saudi considers that Yemen must always be subject to its will and rejects that Yemenis act independently and courageously and seek sovereignty.

Sayyed Nasrallah confirmed that as in Karbala, Yemenis sacrifice in the face of the Saudi war, but they courageously and steadfastly confront it, pointing out In Yemen, there are hundreds of thousands of fighters who are ready to rub Saudi nose in the dirt.

Hezbollah Secretary General offered deep condolences to the Yemeni people over the martyrdom of a great number of citizens, stressing that their steadfastness will defeat the Saudi arrogance.

Sayyed Nasrallah stressed that liberating destination keeps the main goal of the mujahidin adding that the Intifada of jihad is the right Palestinian choice against the Israeli occupation.

His eminence noted that many people expected that the Intifada will fail; however, the Palestinians proved that they cling to it in order to make the Zionist settlers recognize that Palestine is not the land of their milk and honey, but that of their loss, blood and death and to force them to go back to the original countries.

Sayyed Nasrallah said that to compliment the Zionist enemy by participating in its social occasions does not benefit the Palestinians, for the US administration provide ‘Israel’ with huge military and financial aids, while it may only verbally hail such initiatives.

The right track is the one followed by the mujahidin and martyrs as Misbah Sbeih whose daughter highlighted the propriety of the noble path of Jihad, Sayyed Nasrallah added.

His eminence reiterated support to the Palestinian people in the battle against the Zionist occupation.

Hezbollah Secretary General condemned the continual regime oppression against the Bahraini scholars, political leaders and youths, pointing out that Sheikh Issa Qassem is exposed to various threats by the governmental court which hold mock trials and besieged by the authorities in his town of Diraz and hailing the cleric’s companions who have been defending his eminence.

Sayyed Nasrallah asked the Bahrainis to stick to their patience and steadfastness “for the oppressing regime in Bahrain will fall into its abyss when Al Saud dynasty declines after its defeat in Yemen.”

Sayyed Nasrallah underlined the importance of the positive political process in Lebanon in order to end the national crises, including the presidential elections, pointing out that Hezbollah clings to his main stance in this regards and does not need to repeat it every day.

Hezbollah leader called on the Lebanese government to manage the socio-economic issues, considering that the political limpness does not justify any governmental failure to tackle the main national and popular causes.

Sayyed Nasrallah asserted that Hezbollah will keep monitoring the conditions of the Zionist enemy and its weaknesses and strengths, stressing that the army-people-resistance formula is going to protect Lebanon from the Zionist and takfiri dangers and threats.

Sayyed Nasrallah reiterated that Hezbollah will keep deploying his troops in Syria in order to defend “our existence, dignity, resistance, past and future.”

Hezbollah will remain holding the huge jihadi responsibilities in Syria to confront the war imposed by the Americans, Al Saud and their allies on Syria and the axis of resistance, Sayyed Nasrallah highlighted.

In light of Hussein’s principles, we will face the imposed war choice on us, Hezbollah leader confirmed.

Sayyed Nasrallah said that Hezbollah sacrifices verify that he has not surrendered in the war against the enemies who bet on defaming and besieging the party financially and economically.

Sayyed Nasrallah said that Hezbollah is proud of his martyrs even if their numbers augment, adding that the enemies do their best to detect positions of weakness across the party’s ranks; however, “they will never manage to reach their aim.”

“Those who criticize Hezbollah jihadi contributions, the Americans and Al Saud want us to wait for ISIL and Nusra to destroy us.”

Sayyed Nasrallah had greeted the souls of the martyrs who fell in takfiri blasts in Afghanistan and Iraq,  adding that the mujahidin achievements in various field and the defeats of the terrorist groups limited the number of explosions which target the Ashura processions.

Hezbollah organized Ahsura ceremony in Beirut’s Dahiyeh where the crowds flocked to streets and moved towards the main square in order to attend the speech delivered by Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah who appeared in person among the believers despite all the security threats.

Hezbollah leader and the crowds chanted slogans that reiterate the allegiance to Imam Hussein (P) and His path which is the moral and religious base of the resistance in the face of all the enemies.

The Yemeni people make extraordinary look ordinary and otherworldly look worldly. They really are that astonishing and truly that brave. To see them out on the blocks of the Yemeni capital in their hundreds of thousands to slam Al-Saud’s massacre of at least 458 innocents at a funeral on those very same Sanaa streets just 24 hours earlier, is not only a reminder of how fantastically defiant they are, nor merely how immeasurably resilient, but how intrinsically Husseini first and foremost. The US-‘Israeli’ Empire is the Yazid (L.A.) of our time and every Yazid needs his Shimr (L.A.), i.e. the mindless, bloodthirsty, dirt-ridden killer who carries out his orders against the Moustazafeen. Al-Saud is certainly the Shimr of this age, inflicting death and destruction wherever Washington and Tel Aviv send it to hurt those descendants of Imam Hussein (A.S.) who carry on his righteous Muhammadi legacy to preserve their homeland, their culture and their religion. And make no mistake, this is not Jonathan Azaziah’s opinion but the view of the Yemeni people themselves indeed.

At the massive rally yesterday, they held banners which said, “Targeting the funeral hall is an American-Zionist crime, executed by Saudi Arabia”. Side-by-side with these posters were banners of “Ya Hussein (A.S.)!” They also raised banners which said “Your crime will not pass without a response” alongside banners of “Ya Zaynab (A.S.)!”, exhibiting the Yemeni commitment to avenging their fallen brethren, as the survival of Lady Zaynab and Imam Zayn al-Abideen (A.S.) was a sort of Divine retribution for the mass murder in Karbala. For in spite of the outright genocidal efforts of Yazid and his army, Lady Zaynab and Imam Zayn al-Abideen carried on the mission of Imam Hussein and preserved Islam. And moving back forward to this current moment, while the entire “Ummah” kneels at the feet of false king known as Al-Saud, Yemenis wave the standard of truth and justice regardless of how lonely their position at the pinnacle of dignity happens to be. The parallels between the Karbala of yesteryear and the Yemen of present are staggering.

So it is sense personified that what befell the Karbala 72 on Ashoura isn’t just the cornerstone of Ansarullah’s military-political ideology or even the beating heart of their Zaydi-Shi’a Islamic school of thought. It is actually the lifeblood of Yemen’s very history, as 50-53 of Imam Hussein’s (A.S.) martyred companions were of either full or partial Yemeni origin. In other words, while all of Al-Hijaz failed to defend Ahlul Bayt (A.S.) in their time of need, the people of Yemen did heed that call and were more represented than any other group or nation at that particular time of Yemeni history. As mentioned earlier, the Yemenis do make extraordinary look ordinary and otherworldly look worldly, don’t they? Yazid was rebuked and resisted by the Yemenis then and they’re rebuking and resisting Yazid (and Shimr) in the form of US, ‘Israel’ and Al-Saud now. The battlecry of Imam Hussein then was “Hayhat minna zilla (Us, humiliated?! Never, ever!)” and the battlecry of his ideological children remains the same now. Massacred, bombed, oppressed and tormented but still fighting, defying and LIVING. Simply put: The Yemeni people, humiliated?! Never! Never! Never, ever! #LongLiveYemen #LongLiveAnsarullah #DeathToSaud #Ashoura #Muharram

Sayyed Nasrallah: Nowadays Events Prove Blood Triumphs over Sword

Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah said that nowadays events prove Ashura’s main lesson: blood triumphs over sword.

In the first eve of Ashura in Sayyed Al-Shuhada complex in Beirut’s southern suburb (Dahiyeh), Sayyed Nasrallah called people for wide participation during Ashura ceremonies across Lebanese neighborhoods.

His eminence said that Imam Hussein (a.s.) after more than 1400 years still has the capability to awaken people.

“And that what happened during the Islamic revolution of Iran and the Islamic resistance [Hezbollah], as well as fighting all Takfiri groups. This logic, spirit and determination are still active and present.”

“Islam survived, spread and expanded because of sacrifices of Imam Hussein,” Sayyed Nasrallah assured.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah S.G. said that “victory may mean disabling the fundamental goals of the enemy. When Resistance manages to prevent the enemy from achieving his goals, this means she triumphs.”

On the other hand, he noted that “there is a higher level of victory when Resistance prevents the enemy from achieving its goals while managing to achieve hers as happened between 1985 and 2000.”

“When we discuss who had the overpower in this world and who will be the winner in the afterlife, then we can talk about a victory and defeat,” Sayyed Nasrallah stressed.

His eminence pointed out that ISIL group, along with other Takfiri groups “who are trying to ‘become close to God’ by killing, beheading and captivity are descendants of Muslim bin Oqba.”

Nasrallah Poses a Rhetorical Question to ISIS: Who Will You Allow to Live?

Posted on

Hassan Nasrallah is making an important point here. What we are seeing with the rise of terror groups backed by some of the most powerful people and nations on earth is is not something heretofore witnessed in modern times. We are talking, of course, about terrorist forces who seek not only to kill virtually everyone outside of their own group, but who also harbor the goal of wiping out all vestiges of past civilizations. Certainly there are examples in history, including the world wars of the 20th century, in which cultural heritage sites were deliberately targeted by warring parties. But nothing on this scale. This shadow of darkness is unlike anything since “specific early periods of history,” as Nasrallah puts it.

By the way, today is Ashura, the day on which Shia Muslims mark the anniversary of the martyrdom of Husayn Ibn Ali and 72 of his companions at the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD. See: Millions Mark Martyrdom Anniversary of Imam Hussein Worldwide
