Palestinian Detainees Mohammad and Mahmoud Al-Arda: This Is Why We Dug the ‘Road to Al-Quds’

By Staff

The Commission of Palestinian Detainees published Friday new letters from Mohammad and Mahmoud Al-Arda from behind the bars of “Israeli” prisons. The letters included new details about the “Tunnel of Freedom” under Gilboa Prison and their current situation behind bars.

Detainee Mahmoud Al-Arda revealed new details about the tunnel through which six detainees broke free from prison, saying that the main reason behind digging the tunnel is “snatching freedom.”

“Digging the tunnel was in retaliation for the martyrdom of detainee Mohamad Al-Ashkar in 2007, and for this same reason the tunnel in Shatta Prison was dug in 2012,” he added.

“The Tunnel of Freedom came in protest to the martyrdom of the detainee Kamal Abo Waer, the miserable situation of the women in detention, the awful isolation circumstances, the non-implementation of the quests of the mass hunger strike of detainees in 2017, the current tragic conditions and preserving achievements.”

In parallel, Al-Arda dedicated “this victory to martyrs Mohamad Al-Ashkar, Kamal Abo Waer, as well as to the martyrs of The Palestinian Detainees Movement, The Resistance, to our Arabic and Muslim peoples, to the free souls everywhere, and to Gaza in gratitude to what it had offered to the detainees.”

He announced that the tunnel has got the name “The Road to Al-Quds.”

“We have won and “knocked the empty water tank of the lorry” as the great writer Ghassan Kanafani once said. We have delivered our message to the world, that we are seekers of freedom and rights, that we are oppressed, and the world should be by our side in order to free our land,” he added.

For his part, detainee Mohamad Al-Arda, stated that he has been isolated from the outside world since the last nine days, and he paid tribute to his Palestinian people.

Palestinian prisoners Mahmoud Arda, 46, sent a letter to his mother through his lawyer, Quds News Network reported on Friday.

The letter read as follows:

“I’d like to extend my greetings to you, mom, and tell you that I tried very hard to come and hug you before you leave this world, but I couldn’t.

“You are in my heart and head. The good news is that I have eaten figs from many places across our homeland. I also ate prickly pears, pomegranates, sumac, and wild thyme. I even ate guava for the first time in 25 years. I had a jar of honey as a gift for you. Extend my greetings to my dead sisters Basima, Ruba, Khitam, and Saeda, and to my brothers as well, as I miss them a lot.

“I smelled freedom and we saw that the world has changed. I climbed the mountains of Palestine for long hours and we walked across broad plains. I saw how the plain of Arraba, my hometown, is a small part of Bisan and Nazareth.

“My greetings to all family members and friends. My greetings to my niece, Sinat, who I wore her socks all across the mountains. My greetings to Abdullah, Hadeel, Yousef, the wife of Raddad, and all family, to Sarah, Rahaf, Ghada, Muhammad, and everyone. A special greeting to Huda. I miss her so much and I will send the whole story to her.”

Arda, 46, spent over 28 years of his life in Israeli jails, 25 of which are continuous. He is serving a life sentence.

On September 6, along with other five prisoners, he managed to carry out a daring escape from the highly fortified Gilboa prison. However, he was recaptured by the Israeli Police on the outskirts of Nazareth, north of occupied Palestine.

Hundreds of Palestinians today took part in sit-ins held in front of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) premises across multiple West Bank cities, in solidarity with Palestinian prisoners, the official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

Participants in the sit-ins – which were organized by Palestinian national and Islamic factions and various institutions involved in prisoners’ affairs – called on ICRC to promptly intervene and provide protection to Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons, particularly the six prisoner escapees, who were subjected to severe torture after they were recaptured by Israel.

Protesters called on international institutions to pressure Israel to end its policy of administrative detention, and to work attentively to save the lives of sick and hunger-striking prisoners in Israeli jails, according to WAFA.

The Israel Prison Services IPS waged a war against all the prisoners following news of the escape of the six prisoners, raiding and attacking them in their cells, moving them to other prisons, separating them, isolating some, and denying them certain rights, including family visits and buying from the canteen.

Prisoners Commission: Zakaria Al-Zubaidi suffered fractures in the face and body as a result of beatings

The Commission for Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs reported on Wednesday that lawyer Avigdor Feldman was able to visit prisoner Zakaria Al-Zubaidi in the Al-Jalama detention center. The lawyer found that the latter was subjected to beatings and abuse during his arrest. Al-Zubaidi’s injuries included a broken jaw and two broken ribs.

According to the commission, Al-Zubaidi was transferred to an Israeli hospital and given only painkillers following the arrest. Bruises and scratches cover his body as a result of beatings.

Feldman disclosed that Zakaria al-Zubaidi did not participate in the tunnel excavation. He added that al-Zubeidi joined the room of the other five prisoners one day before they exited the tunnel, which took nearly a year to dig.

During the visit, Al-Zubaidi detailed to Feldman that over the four days they spent outside captivity, the escapees did not ask for help from anyone, out of concern for Palestinians in the occupied territories being punished by Israelis.

He also pointed out that they did not drink any water after their successful escape and only ate whatever fruits they found in orchards, such as figs and cacti.

Zakaria’s brother: We do not know the seriousness of his injuries

Jibril Zubeidi, Zakaria’s brother, announced last Monday that Zakaria was in need of hospitalization due to the deterioration of his health during his arrest.

Yahya al-Zubaidi, another brother of Zakaria, told Al- Mayadeen that Zakaria’s health condition deteriorated further due to an old injury he sustained from a mortar shell in his face. Yahya added that he recently had a broken leg and bruises on his body.

The Zionist Establishment Is Looking For Someone to Take Responsibility for Gilboa Prison Break

The Zionist Establishment Is Looking For Someone to Take Responsibility for Gilboa Prison Break

By Staff, Agencies

While the Zionist regime’s Prison Service officials wonder how they allowed six Palestinian prisoners to escape one of their most secure facilities, the chief of Hermon Prison said last week it’s still unclear if the prison break was down to systemic neglect.

Six Palestinian resistance detainees tunneled their way out through a hole that wasn’t sealed for seven years while the prison guard near their cells was sleeping, the watch tower was unmanned, no one answered the phone, and the structure’s blueprint was published online a year earlier.

They never know, they never hear, they never see but most importantly they never take responsibility, ever. That’s the number one rule of the Zionist regime’s public officials.

From a lowest ranking officer up to a minister, every official in the occupation regime knows very well who wins over the public. Everybody is responsible, but nobody bears the responsibility.

For many years no one in the Zionist public sphere would take responsibility and resigned over national disasters caused by human error, and over time they stopped being ashamed.

For years, no one would stand in front of a camera and say the one thing that any decent man would say after a devastating event for which he is accountable for: I failed, I resign immediately, and hope that one who comes after me will do a better job.

Weaker Than a Spider Web: The Loss of the “Epic” Intelligence

Weaker Than a Spider Web: The Loss of the “Epic” Intelligence

By Mohammad Sleem

Beirut – A “miserable failure”, that’s how the former commander of Gilboa prison described the covert operation led by the 6 Palestinian prisoners who escaped the high security prison north of occupied Palestine.

Gilboa prison is considered one of the most important and highly ranked security prisons in occupied Palestine. It was built in 2004 and designed with the help of Irish specialists and only includes prominent Palestinian prisoners.

“Israeli” media quoted the former commander saying that the escape of the 6 Palestinian detainees was shameful and the most dangerous accident that could happen. On the morning of the escape, prison guards and members of the investigation team were in a state of shock.

Severe responses from senior officers and politicians in the “Israeli” regime to the operation lead to serious questions from “Israeli” media outlets on the ability and the coherence of the regime’s security institutions, in the light of the most recent event.

The “Israeli” entity’s KAN broadcaster announced that the authorities will investigate with the prison service members who took unusual decisions, in addition to huge suspicions regarding cooperation with the prisons.

Another “Israeli” news outlet, The times of “Israel” described the jail break as one of the worst escapes in the “Israeli” entity’s history.

To make things worse for the security institutions, the “Israeli” daily Haaretz said the prison blueprint was previously published online, making it available to the public. It further added that during this time it wasn’t clear if this highly dangerous threat helped the prisoners in their plan.

Moreover, the “Israeli” daily stated that the security failure regarding the prison service administration is well known and clear for a long time. To rub salt into the wound, no precautions had been taken to prevent any possible threat or act done by the Palestinian prisoners.

And with another shocking news, Haaretz declared that the prison warden on shift during the prison break, fell asleep.

On the political level, “Israeli” Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said that the incident might affect the front lines on “all our borders”, and not only on internally.

After the accident, the “Israeli” army spokesman announced that army forces will be increased to three battalions and seven armored companies to widen the search operations.

Commenting on the breakout, commander of Hermon Prison Commissioner Yariv Cohen, in an interview with the “Israeli” Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, classified the Islamic Jihad movement – to which five of the six prisoners belong to – as “a very sophisticated group”, adding that “there is no doubt that we need to understand why we did not pick up on this intelligence-wise”.

Based on the above-mentioned, an immense intelligence failure occurred in the “Israeli” regime’s different security sectors, and it’s one of its kind that the great escape by the Palestinian prisoners was considered a historic operation and one of the smartest, although it is not the first.

All in all, the Palestinian detainees’ historic breakout with all the surrounding factors, including the time taken to dig the ten-meter-long tunnel and the tools used to do it, in addition to the security level at the Gilboa Prison, proved that no matter how heavily equipped the “Israeli” regime gets and with more advanced human resources, it will remain weaker than a spider web.

Palestinians Rage in Face of Israeli Punitive Measures against Prisoners after Gilboa Escape Operation

 September 10, 2021

A large number of Palestinians gathered on Friday at the contact points in the occupied Al-Quds and West Bank as well as Gaza border to protest against the Israeli enemy’s punitive measures against the Palestinian prisoners at the Zionist jails in light of Gilboa escape operation.

Within the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque, the Palestinian worshippers rallied in support of the Palestinian prisoners, before the Zionist occupation forces stormed Al-Aqsa Shrine and dispersed the protesting worshippers.

Al-Manar reporter clarified that the Palestinian protests set off across all the occupied territories as clashes with the Zionist enemy troops wounded two Israeli soldiers and left a large number of Palestinian injuries.

Later on, the Palestinian doctor, Hazem Al-Joulani, succumbed to his wounds inflicted by the Zionist fire in Al-Quds Old City as the enemy claimed he was carrying out a stab attack.

Meanwhile, the Israeli occupation authorities continued taking strict measures against the Palestinian prisoners who also confronted the enemy’s punitive moves by protesting and incinerating dungeons.

Zionist circles warned against an all-out military confrontation with the Palestinians in Gaza, 1948-occupied territories, and West Bank if ‘Israel’ kills the six Palestinian prisoners who escaped from Gilboa prison.

Six Palestinian prisoners managed early Monday to escape from the Israeli Gilboa prison, located in Beissan Valley, through a tunnel, they had dug, and moved into an unknown destination.

Grave Repercussions against Palestinian Detainees behind ‘Israeli’ Bars: Incursion, Repression, and Burning Cells

September 9, 2021

By Staff

The Palestinian Prisoner’s Club said that what is taking place inside ‘Israeli’ prisons is a real war being waged by the administration of the occupation prisons on defenseless detainees. The information received successively prove that there will be an open confrontation as long as the prisons’ administration is escalating the situation.

Grave Repercussions against Palestinian Detainees behind ‘Israeli’ Bars: Incursion, Repression, and Burning Cells

Heavily armed repression units and special units of the occupation army started large-scale incursion and repression operations in multiple prisons, most notably in al-Naqab and Rimon prisons.

The Palestinian Prisoner’s Club said that the detainees had started confronting the prisons administration and its forces with different approaches, most notably when a group of them set numerous cells on fire in section “6” in al-Naqab Prison. According to the latest information, the prison’s administration has started transferring all the section-six detainees to a yet unknown destination, and continued to break-in to other sections.

Detainees of all organizations announced their refusal to the threats they are being exposed to, especially concerning the attempt of the prison’s administration to transfer and distribute the detainees of the Islamic Jihad Palestinian resistance movement, trying to knock down the organizational structures in the prisons, which is considered by the detainees as the most dangerous step.

A major incursion was carried out by the repression units in the Rimon Prison, during which special occupation units were called in along with the special units that usually practice repression and incursion inside prisons.

The Gilboa Prison administration, which has been facing the most violent confrontation in the past two days, suppressed the detainees in section “3” and transferred them. That occurred after the detainee Malek Hamed poured hot water on a warden in response to the prison’s administration measures of transferring the prisoners to Shatta Prison, following another measurement of transferring the detainees of section “2” in Gilboa Prison to numerous prisons.

Confrontation and high tension are also taking place in Ofer Prison after threats of evacuating four cells in section 22 where detainees of the Islamic Jihad are, and distributing them on the other cells in the prison. Additionally, the Ofer Prison’s administration isolated 34 detainees in section 18 after they had been transferred from Gilboa.

It’s worth mentioning that after six detainees managed to break out of Gilboa, the prison’s administration imposed a series of measures, presented by carrying out repression, transference, and inspection operations especially in Gilboa Prison, along with closing all the detainees’ sections in prisons, reducing the time spent in the courtyard, closing the facilities such as the sink, and depriving the detainees from the Canteen [a store where they buy what they need]. It also threatened that further measures will be taken.

The Palestinian Prisoner’s Club urged the international community to intervene quickly in order to put an end to the dangerous attack on the detainees. It also stressed that escalating the situation would lead to more dangerous consequences, and again held the occupation fully accountable for the detainees’ lives and destiny.

Security Failures, Sleeping Guard: How Did Six Palestinians Manage to Escape Heavily-guarded ‘Israeli’ Jail?

Security Failures, Sleeping Guard: How Did Six Palestinians Manage to Escape Heavily-guarded ‘Israeli’ Jail?

By Staff, Haaretz

The embarrassing ‘Israeli’ failure on the security level inside the occupation entity’s prisons continued to be the subject to mock the Zionist establishment by its own media.

In a commentary published by ‘Israeli’ Haaretz newspaper, Josh Breiner asked: What happened at Gilboa Prison? Why was there an open space under the prison? And where did the prisoners go? This is what we know so far about the high-profile prison break.

The escape of six security prisoners from Gilboa Prison on Monday exposed a raft of failures in the work of the Prison Service. This begins with senior officials who apparently learned no lessons from an attempted breakout in the same prison seven years ago, as well as the failure to operate electronic measures where required, and the guard who fell asleep in the watchtower. Haaretz is attempting to sort through these issues and raise questions that need to be answered so that this does not recur.

What happened?

Between 1:20 and 1:40 A.M. on the night between Sunday and Monday, Rosh Hashana eve, six security prisoners escaped from cell No. 5 in Wing 2 of the prison in Jezreel Valley. The six escaped through a tunnel they dug from within their cell, apparently over the last six months. All the escaped convicts – five members of Islamic Jihad and one Fatah member – are residents of the nearby Jenin area. On the eve of the break, two of these prisoners were moved to the cell from which the escape took place, so they could break out as well.

It is believed the prisoners removed a metal grate that was welded into the floor of the toilet and then discovered an empty space underneath it, created when the prison was built. This space led to an area which was 2.5 meters [8.2 feet] outside the prison wall, which was close to their cell. The length of the tunnel they passed through is 30 meters, at the end of which they dug an escape shaft.

A preliminary investigation shows that the prisoners emerged one by one, waiting beside the shaft without being noticed by guards or surveillance cameras. The guard on a tower right above the shaft had fallen asleep.

At this point, the six men started moving away from the prison. Some of them were spotted by a taxi driver when they crossed a road. The driver called police at around 1:50 A.M., which led police to alert the Prison Service 25 minutes later.

Only around 3:30 A.M. was it discovered that the prisoners had escaped. Suspicions have it that the prisoners coordinated their escape with people outside the prison, who came to the area assisted by cellphones. According to police investigations, after walking three kilometers they reached a vehicle and left the area. The Shin Bet and police believe that the prisoners, or some of them, reached the village of Na’ura, where they stayed for 20 minutes, changing clothes and buying food.

Where did they go?

The main concern of police is that the six are still in “Israeli” territory, hidden in houses or outdoors, waiting for an opportunity to flee. The fact that four of the men have life sentences raises concerns that they will try to carry out resistance operations.

Another possibility is that the six have fled to the West Bank. They know the area well, especially the nearby Jenin area from which they came. Four of them have been in prison for over 20 years, so the chances that they will stay in the ‘Israeli’-occupied territories, which they’re not familiar with, are less likely.

A preferred option for ‘Israel’ is that they reached hiding places in the West Bank, given the security and intelligence control ‘Israel’s’ forces have in that area. However, apprehending them there will almost certainly entail violent confrontations with the ‘Israeli’ military personnel.

Another possibility that police believe to be highly likely is that the prisoners fled to Jordan or another country. That would make it harder for ‘Israel’ to return them to prison.

Why was there an open space under the prison?

Gilboa Prison was built in 2004 near the older Shata Prison, to allow for incarcerating a large number of security prisoners during the second intifada. Due to the need to erect it hastily, construction was expedited so that the prison’s wards were built on concrete pillars, with open spaces underneath. The prison’s engineering plan was published on the site of the architects who had planned it. It’s not known if the prisoners used this knowledge, but this is clearly a security failure of the Prison Service, which did not remove the plan once it went online.

What sanctions were imposed on other security prisoners?

After the breakout, the conditions of 4,000 security prisoners were further restricted. Thus, the time they are allowed to be in the yard was reduced from four hours to one hour a day. Many searches have been conducted in their cells, with Islamic Jihad prisoners moved to other wings, despite the ideological and religious differences between prisoners, something that is creating a lot of tension.

On Wednesday Islamic Jihad prisoners torched their cells at Ketziot and Ramon prisons, clashing with guards. They were protesting the intent to move them to other prisons following the escape from Gilboa.

Islamic Jihad Warns “Israel” against “Collective Punishment” of Palestinian Inmates

Islamic Jihad Warns “Israel” against “Collective Punishment” of Palestinian Inmates

By Staff, Agencies

The Islamic Jihad strongly warned the “Israeli” regime against trying to punish other Palestinian prisoners over the recent escape of six inmates from a maximum-security “Israeli” jail.

The Palestinian resistance movement issued the warning in a statement on Tuesday after Palestinian sources revealed that the regime was administering “collective punishment” to prisoners, including some of Jihad’s senior figures, after the jailbreak.

The prisoners, five of whom belong to the group, escaped the Gilboa Prison in the northern part of the occupied territories through an underground tunnel. The facility has earned notoriety as the “Israeli” version of the Guantanamo prison.

Despite conducting a thorough search for an entire day, the “Israeli” police service has failed so far to find any clues about the escapees’ current whereabouts.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Wafa news agency said the regime had begun taking out the embarrassment on other Palestinian inmates through a number of measures.

It has transferred more than a dozen prisoners from Gilboa’s second ward to another “Israeli” prison and stopped allowing prisoners’ access to television. The regime has also taken five of the Islamic Jihad’s leaders to Gilboa’s interrogation center, and begun rummaging every nook and cranny throughout the prison.

The resistance group said it was monitoring the situation at “Israeli” prisons, advising Tel Aviv against taking “retaliatory measures” against the prisoners.

The movement said it would not leave its prisoners alone and noted that whatever “‘Israeli’ terrorist action” against them was to be met with its due response.

“The ‘Israeli’ regime should know this that violations targeting the prisoners are our redline,” it said, adding, “We are prepared to and capable of defending our prisoners and have several options at our disposal to do so.”

The Naqab Prison, also known as “Ktzi’ot” Prison, is in a state of alert after a large number of Israeli occupation soldiers raided it.

The Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office said the detainees in Section 6 set their cells on fire in response to the Israeli occupation’s brutal suppression campaign against them.

The Palestinian Prisoners’ Club said that Naqab Prison is in a state of chaos after Section 6 caught on fire, which was done in protest of the prison administration’s violations, harassment, and mistreatment.

Al Mayadeen correspondent reported that the Israeli occupation is also assaulting the Palestinian detainees in Megiddo Prison.

Muhjat Al-Quds, a foundation concerned with Palestinian detainees and martyrs, obtained a letter written by PIJ detainees from Naqab Prison in which they said they would burn any room they are taken out of. This was in response to the administration illegally transferring detainees within the prison.

This comes two days after six Palestinian prisoners broke out of the Gilboa Prison through a tunnel they dug under the Israeli prison. This was followed by Israeli escalation, especially against prisoners, as the occupation has increased its oppression of Palestinian prisoners, going as far as depriving them of their daily food portions.

Al-Quds Brigades, PIJ’s military wing, said they would not allow for the constant violation of the detainees’ rights, asserting that they would neither abandon their detainees nor let them down.

Palestinian Prisoners Rebel against Israeli Punitive Measures, Islamic Jihad Calls for Confronting Enemy

    September 8, 2021

The Palestinian prisoners rebelled against the punitive measures taken by the Israeli occupation authorities in light of Gilboa escape operation, incinerating the dungeons at Negev jail.

The Islamic Jihad Resistance Movement pledged to protect the Palestinian prisoners from the Zionist oppression, calling on all the Palestinians to clash with the Zionist enemy at all the contact points in the occupied West Bank.

The Israeli occupation has deployed full weight of its security arsenal to capture the six Palestinians who managed early Monday to break out of high-security Gilboa prison.

Manhunt for the six Palestinians continued into third day on Wednesday, with Palestinian and Israeli media reporting arrest campaign across the West Bank.

Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Bureau to Al-Ahed: Our Battle With the Occupation Won’t End Soon

     SEPTEMBER 8, 2021

Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Bureau to Al-Ahed: Our Battle With the Occupation Won’t End Soon

    By Al-Ahed News

Monday marked an embarrassment to the entire Zionist establishment after a group of six Palestinian detainees managed to escape the ‘Israeli’ entity’s most fortified detention centers, Gilboa Prison. The recent incident has put the ‘Israeli’ occupation security system and its prisons’ administration in deep water.

In wake of this humiliating defeat, Head of Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Bureau, Nahed al-Fakhoury told al-Ahed News that the Zionist regime is seeking to export its crisis through avenging the detainees with a series of punitive measures. The measures include reducing the number of prisoners who are allowed to sun exposure, in addition to reducing the daily duration of this exposure to only one hour.

Shutting the Canteen [the military market] and the laundry in all prisons, and banning movement and roaming between the prisons’ sections were also among the punitive measures taken against the detainees.

The Palestinian figure added in remarks to al-Ahed that the public phone service in Section 1 of Ramon Prison, and Section 4 in al-Naqab Prison was stopped until further notice, although this service is one of the achievements of the Second Strike of Dignity in 2019.

The Zionist administration, additionally, dismantled the organizational committee of the Islamic Jihad resistance movement and distributed its members between the cells of detainees from other organizations inside the prisons.

Not to mention, more punitive measures were expected as the Zionist occupation prisons’ administration has warned the detainees of such an action. The situation, hence, will have more dangerous repercussions.

Al-Fakhoury affirmed to al-Ahed News that the detainees in all prisons and from different political organization will have a stance and will never allow the ‘Israeli’ administration to abuse the situation to impose new sanctions against them as it did in 2014.

In response to a question about the future steps, al-Fakhoury told al-Ahed that talks are underway with Palestinian resistance factions to discuss the means of retaliating and confronting the punitive measures, stressing that “all choices are open for the prisoners to retaliate.”

In remarks that included those options, the Head of Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Bureau suggested the open-ended hunger strike, dissolving all organizational committees, or even the two choices at once.

“The Palestinian prisoners are facing an extended battle that won’t end soon, and the situation is dangerous and critical that requires everybody shouldering their responsibilities,” al-Fakhoury underscored.

Elsewhere, the Head of Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Bureau highlighted that the Islamic Jihad detainees were the ones who were mainly targeted because the detainees who dug the “Tunnel of Freedom” belong to the Islamic Jihad resistance movement.

With respect to the whereabouts of the liberated detainees, al-Fakhoury said it is a sensitive issue that we don’t know much about. “Getting deeper into such details don’t serve the detainees, and there are many misleading information launched by the different intelligence agencies to collect information about them, or to make the detainees feel that they are safe.”

Following Escape, Israel Imposes Restrictions on Palestinian Prisoners

The Israeli Prisons Authority has imposed punitive measures on Palestinian detainees, the Prisoners’ Information Office warned this morning, adding that this could lead to a “serious escalation” in tensions in jails.

Occupation authorities have reduced the time prisoners are allowed to spend outside to one hour and reduced the number of detainees in the prison yard at any one time. It has also closed the prisoners’ shop, from which they buy essentials including soap, and moved prisoners who are members of the Islamic Jihad movement around into different prisons.

Lawyers and family visits have now been banned, the Palestinian Liberation Organisation’s Prisoners’ Affairs Authority said.

The Prisoners’ Information Office stressed that “prisons are on the verge of a dangerous escalation in light of the punitive measures imposed by the prison administration on prisoners.”

Spokesman for the Prisoners’ Affairs Authority, Hassan Abd Rabbo, confirmed that the occupation authorities transferred all prisoners from Gilboa prison to a number of other prisons, and placed them in solitary confinement.

These measures come after six Palestinian detainees, five of whom were members of Islamic Jihad, escaped from Israel’s high-security

Israeli Media: Escape of 6 Prisoners Reflects Series of Dangerous Failures

Israeli PM Naftali Bennett is in contact with his Minister of Public Security, who is receiving fresh reports on the search for the prisoners, while Israeli media reports that airplanes of an unspecified type were called in to help track them down.

IPS: Six security prisoners escaped tonight from Gilboa Prison – Haaretz

Israeli media reported today, on Monday, that the occupation transferred close to 400 prisoners from Gilboa prison to other facilities, fearing additional tunnels, noting that hundreds of special police units were called in to the prison to investigate the escape.

The area surrounding the prison, according to the media, was combed to look for the prisoners. The occupation also closed down several checkpoints and tightened its measures on other West Bank military checkpoints.

It was also reported by a senior security official that the escape of prisoners from Gilboa reflects a “series of dangerous failures,” noting that estimates reveal that the digging of the tunnel took years, not months.

On his part, Israeli PM Naftali Bennett spoke with the occupation’s Public Security Minister, Omer Bar-Lev, who is receiving fresh reports on search operations. The former said “the incident is a serious one,” and that it requires methodical general effort by all security forces.

The head of Gilboa’s Regional Council also said that the time between the escape and its discovery gave the prisoners enough time to gain a lot of distance.

Israeli Channel 12 also reported that the distance between Gilboa Prison and Jenin is only 13 km, considering what happened a failure for all ministries and security apparatuses, from the public security ministry to military intelligence, to the security-military establishment, because the digging went on for more than “8 months” without anyone discovering anything.

Meanwhile, the Israeli Military’s Spokesperson reported that several unspecified airplanes were called in to find the “security prisoners” who escaped from Gilboa prison.

Palestinian factions commented on the escape, saying that this step is a major victory that proves that the will of resistance fighters indomitable and invincible.

New “Israeli” Failure: Six Palestinian Prisoners Escape Prison through Tunnel

New “Israeli” Failure: Six Palestinian Prisoners Escape Prison through Tunnel

    By Staff, Agencies

In a new severe slap to the apartheid “Israeli” entity, six Palestinian prisoners managed to escape from Gilboa Prison in the West Bank overnight Sunday.

“Israeli” officials are concerned that the six will try to carry out attacks or escape the Zionist entity. Amongst the prisoners is Zakaria Zabidi, the former leader of Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigade.

Prison officials surmise that the six escaped via a tunnel leading outside the prison walls that they had managed to dig over the past few months. The Shin Bet reported the inmates coordinated with collaborators outside the prison using a smuggled cellphone and had an escape car waiting for them. They were first noticed by local farmers who notified the police.

It was discovered that the six prisoners had escaped at around 4 A.M. during a head count.

An investigation into the incident is underway, said the Prisons Service. An official from the “Israel” Prison Service described the breach as “a major security and intelligence failure.”

In a statement made shortly after the event the Islamic Jihad called the escape “heroic” and added that it will “shock the ‘Israeli defense’ system.” Hamas spokesperson Fawzi Barhoum praised the prisoners saying “the escape proves the bravery of these prisoners, achieving freedom despite such strict security measures. It’s a heroic and impressive action.”

6 Palestinian Prisoners Break Out of Gilboa Prison

The Israeli occupation has announced that six Palestinian prisoners broke out of Gilboa Prison, which is under heavy security, at dawn today, Monday, through a tunnel dug under the prison.

6 Palestinian prisoners dig a tunnel and break out of prison

The Israeli newspaper Haaretz confirmed that six Palestinian prisoners managed to escape from Gilboa Prison near the occupied city of Beit She’an, at dawn today, Monday.

According to the newspaper, this prison is considered one of the most fortified Israeli prisons.

The Israeli occupation announced that police forces launched a manhunt in search of the prisoners at large. They are undergoing a full-scale search operation in the area crowded with villages and towns, which is also close to the border with the northern West Bank and Jordan.

Reports state that six prisoners dug a tunnel to break free from Gilboa prison and were reported missing around 4 am.

Israeli media websites published pictures of the tunnel that the escaped prisoners dug and escaped through, along with pictures of the prisoners.

    A real prison break

A source from the Islamic Jihad Movement told Al Mayadeen that Mahmoud Abdullah al-Ardah is the “prince” of the prisoners in Gilboa prison and the one who led the prisoners’ escape.

The source added that the prisoners’ escape constitutes a severe blow to the Israeli army and the entire regime in “Israel”.

He described the prison break as a “heroic” move, which will cause a severe shock to the Israeli security system.

According to Israeli sources, the prisoners who managed to escape through a tunnel are Zakaria al-Zubaidi, Munadel Yaqoub Nafi’at, Muhammad Qassem Aardeh, Yaqoub Mahmoud Qadri, Ayham Fouad Kamamji, Mahmoud Abdullah Aardeh, knowing that the last five are members of the Islamic Jihad Movement.

“Israel” keeps about 4,850 prisoners in its prisons, including 41 female prisoners, 225 children, and 540 administrative detainees, according to institutions specializing in prisoners’ affairs.

It is worth mentioning that after several escape attempts, prison guards made a decision to keep all Islamic Jihad Movement members on top floors, not ground floors.

    Gilboa Prison under the radar

Gilboa Prison is located in northern Palestine and was newly established under the supervision of Irish experts.

It was opened in 2004, near Shatta prison in the Bisan area of 1948.
