Israeli court legitimizes murder

by Stephen Lendman

My Photo
Cindy and Craig CorrieCindy and Craig Corrie hoped for better. So did sister Sarah. The world knows Israel murdered their daughter, Rachel, in cold blood. On August 28, Israeli justice ruled otherwise.

It’s unsurprising in a nation contemptuous of rule of law principles, democratic values, and life itself. More on the court ruling below.

Israel is a rogue terror state. It’s an out-of-control blight on humanity. It’s a regional menace. Racism and persecution are institutionalized. It’s unfit to live in for most Jews. For Arabs and supporters of equal rights and justice, it’s dangerous.

On March 16, 2003, an Israeli bulldozer soldier/driver murdered Rachel Corrie in cold blood.

Courageously she tried to stop a lawless Rafah refugee camp home demolition. Eye witnesses said she climbed atop a giant militarized Caterpillar tractor, spoke to the driver, climbed down, knelt 10 – 20 meters in front in clear view, and blocked its path with her body.

Activists screamed for it to stop. The operator ignored them. He deliberately crushed Rachel to death. To be sure, he ran over her twice.

He murdered her in cold blood. Israel’s government and military supported him. They still do.
They believe Arab lives and well-being don’t matter. They target activists who support them. They’re considered enemies of the state.

Opposition isn’t tolerated. Murder is official policy to eliminate it. Rachel’s death bears stark witness to institutionalized lawlessness.

Legitimizing it reveals corrupt Israeli justice. Punishment follows Jewish killings. Arab ones or supporters are whitewashed. Orders from the top mandate it. Investigations when they’re held are shams. Israel’s said:

“The state believes that it was proved that the activity of the IDF force is within the framework of ‘war activity.”

“In addition, the state proved that the deceased willfully endangered herself and, sadly, her contributory fault stood at 100%.”

In 2005, Rachel’s family sued: “The estate of Rachel Aliene Corrie v. State of Israel, Ministry of Defense.”

They waited over nine years for justice. The Rachel Corrie Foundation for Peace & Justice (RCFPJ) supports it. Its mission and guiding principles state:
The Foundation continues what Rachel began. It reflects “her vision, spirit, and creative energy….” It supports “build(ing) understanding, respect, and appreciation for differences, and that promote cooperation within and between local and global communities.”

The New York Times, America’s newspaper of record, at first reported nothing. Belated coverage appeared. Online AM editions excluded it. The Washington Post ran an AP piece. Front page headlines omitted it.

AP said “(a)n Israeli court on Monday rejected a lawsuit brought against the military by the parents of a U.S. activist crushed to death by an army bulldozer during a 2003 demonstration, ruling the army was not at fault for her death.”

Rachel was in plain sight. Her bright orange vest and bullhorn made her easy to spot. The soldier-operator lied. He knew she protected a Palestinian home with her body. He claimed he didn’t see her.
Israel called Rachel’s death accidental. A sham investigation report said:

“Rachael Corrie was not run over by an engineering vehicle but rather was struck by a hard object, most probably a slab or concrete which was moved or slid down while the mound of earth which she was standing behind was moved.”

She and others with her were accused of “illegal, irresponsible and dangerous” behavior.
Cindy and Craig sued for justice. Israeli district court judge Oded Gershon contemptuously justified murder. “I reject the suit,” he said. “There is no justification to demand the state pay any damages.”
He claimed Rachel “put herself in a dangerous situation.” He called her death “an accident she brought upon herself.” Blame the victim is Israeli policy.

He said the IDF conducted a proper investigation. It whitewashed Rachel’s death. It absolved cold blooded murder. So did judge Gershon. He rejected her family’s symbolic suit for $1 in damages plus legal expenses.

Family lawyer Hussein Abu Hussein called the verdict “blam(ing) the victim.” His full statement was as follows:

“While not surprising, this verdict is yet another example of where impunity has prevailed over accountability and fairness. Rachel Corrie was killed while non-violently protesting home demolitions and injustice in Gaza, and today, this court has given its stamp of approval to flawed and illegal practices that failed to protect civilian life.”

“In this regard, the verdict blames the victim based on distorted facts and it could have been written directly by the state attorneys.”

“We knew from the beginning that we had an uphill battle to get truthful answers and justice, but we are convinced that this verdict distorts the strong evidence presented in court, and contradicts fundamental principles of international law with regard to protection of human rights defenders.”
“In denying justice in Rachel Corrie’s killing, this verdict speaks to the systemic failure to hold the Israeli military accountable for continuing violations of basic human rights.”

“We would like to thank everyone who supported the family and the legal team; including activists, NGOs, legal observers, US embassy officials, interpreters, reporters who covered the trial, and we look forward to talking to you at the press conference.”

Addressing reporters, Hussein called the ruling “a black day for activists of human rights and people who believe in values of dignity.”

Cindy and Craig will appeal to Israel’s Supreme Court. They’ll continue speaking publicly about Rachel, they said. They won’t let her death be in vain. They criticized Israel’s failure to properly investigate.

“A civil lawsuit is not a substitute for a legal investigation, which we never had,” said Cindy. “The diplomatic process between the United States and Israel failed us. Rachel’s killing could have been and should have been avoided.”

“We’re deeply troubled by what we heard today,” she added. “From the beginning, it was clear to us that there was….a well-heeled system to protect the Israeli military, the soldiers who conduct actions….to provide them with impunity at the cost of all the civilians who are impacted by what they do.”

Israel “worked extremely hard so that the truth behind what happened to my daughter is not exposed.”
“I believe this is a bad day not only for our family, but….for human rights, for humanity, for the rule of law, and also for the country of Israel.”

According to Human Rights Watch representative Bill Van Esveld:

“The idea that there can be no fault for killing civilians in a combat operation contradicts Israel’s international legal obligations to spare civilians from harm during armed conflict and to credibly investigate and punish violations by its force.”

“Military investigators repeatedly failed to take statements from witnesses, to follow up with the witness’s lawyer and to re-interview witnesses to clarify discrepancies.”

In March 2010, multiple oral testimony sessions began. In July 2011, they concluded. They produced over 2,000 pages of court transcripts. Witnesses were flown in. Israeli ones appeared behind screens to conceal their identities. Criminals and supporters sought anonymity.

Cindy and Craig drained their savings. They spent about $200,000 on travel, legal costs, translation services, and other expenses. Their struggle for justice continues.

Sarah Corrie Simpson met with representatives in over 200 congressional offices. She said:

“I hope someday (the bulldozer operator) will have the courage to sit down in front of me and tell me what he saw and what he feels.”

Before the verdict, Craig said:

“You don’t really close a wound like this, but it certainly is a big milestone.”

For days ahead of the ruling, he carried a photo of the then six-year old Palestinian girl whose home Rachel tried to protect. “I think this (picture) in some ways is more hopeful,” he said. “She deserves a future that we all want for our children.”

AP said their case was “the first civil lawsuit of a foreigner harmed by Israel’s military to conclude in a full civilian trial.” Others were settled out of court.

Rachel was an International Solidarity Movement (ISM) volunteer. It’s a nonviolent, direct-action Palestinian movement against occupation and injustice.

Its members used their bodies as human shields to stop home demolitions. During the second Intifada (2000 – 2004), over 1,700 Rafah homes were bulldozed. Around 17,000 Palestinians were left homeless.

Many others throughout Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem lost their homes. Doing so violates Fourth Geneva’s Article 147. It prohibits targeting civilian property.

Rachel justifiably tried to prevent it. Fourth Geneva’s Article 10 supports humanitarian workers. Occupying powers are obligated to protect them. Moreover, Article 54 prohibits targeting civilians.
Rachel was a committed anti-war activist before coming to Gaza in 2002. She arranged peace events in Washington state.

She died in Rafah in southern Gaza. She and other ISM protesters used their bodies to stop other home demolitions. Extremist members of Netanyahu’s coalition government called judge Gershon’s ruling “vindication after vilification.”

PLO Executive Committee member Hanan Ashrawi denounced the decision, saying:

“Despite the testimonies of eyewitnesses, the audio-visual evidence and the overwhelming proof that Rachel was deliberately murdered, the Israeli court insists on victimizing her again in her tragic death.”

“This proves that once again the occupation has distorted the legal and judicial systems in Israel and that the lack of accountability for its violence and violations has generated a culture of hate and impunity.”

“We must make sure that Rachel Corrie’s death is not a senseless incident. It must be stressed that Israel’s habit of blaming the victim and exonerating the criminal is not applied to Palestinian victims, but has also it has extended its reach to international solidarity activists and victims of Israeli violence.”
“The U.S. government has been noticeably absent and its silence is deafening. In their lack of engagement and human empathy, both the legislative and executive branches are complicit in compounding the crime.”

“The Palestinians as a whole will continue to love Rachel and cherish her memory. Her sacrifice will always be a source of hope and a tribute to genuine humanity.”

Ahead of judge Gershon’s ruling, ISM announced it’s scheduled August 28 date, at 9:00AM, in Haifa District Court. Rachel died at age 23. A glorious human being was lost. A militarized Caterpillar D9-R bulldozer crushed her to death.

In its summer newsletter, the Rachel Corrie Foundation for Peace & Justice highlighted the scheduled ruling date. Proceedings began seven and a half years earlier. August 28 was painfully long in coming.
On arrival it left nothing resolved. Rachel’s family members called on others “to show support for this lengthy effort and to seize this moment to challenge the home demolitions (she) opposed….”
In Israel, impunity triumphs over accountability, fairness and justice. Institutionalized lawlessness assures it.

The issue remains as urgent as when Rachel died. On August 29, a live 9:30PM EDT conference call with family members discussed the court ruling. Visits the Foundation site for details and perhaps an audio transcript.

Gilad Atzmon: Rachel Corrie and the Kosher Legal Stamp

Rachel Corrie and the Kosher Legal Stamp

Gilad Atzmon

Judge Oded Gershon’s ruling earlier this week that the state of Israel is not to blame for the death of Rachel Corrie, came as no surprise. In fact it reaffirms everything we know about the Jewish state – its politics, legal system and spirit. Israel is surely a most peculiar state – it is impervious to ethical thinking and humanist thought.

Accordingly, Judge Gershon gave this week a kosher stamp to a cold-blooded murder and by so doing, he proved, once again, that Israeli criminal actions are consistent with the most vile interpretations of Old Testament and Talmudic Goy-hating.

As one would predict, Judge Gershon, restricted himself to legalism and litigation as opposed to ethical thinking – he actually blamed Corrie for not ‘behaving reasonably’. Yet, one may wonder what is this ‘reason’ or more precisely, what does an Israeli mean when he or she refers to ‘reason’.

Rachel Corrie was bulldozed to death by an Israeli military D9 Caterpillar on 16 March 2003. She was part of ISM (International Solidarity Movement), a non-violent pro-Palestinian peace activist group. Being an American youngster, Corrie mistakenly believed that Israeli soldiers were humanly driven. Being a reasonable person she must have believed that an Israeli bulldozer driver would never drive over her body. She was wrong. Corrie clearly failed to grasp that Israeli ‘reasoning’ was lethally fuelled by psychosis and fantasies of destruction.

Corrie failed precisely where so many solidarity activists fail. Israel is no normal state. It is a state of one people only – and a people who believe themselves to be chosen. The meaning of this is both simple and devastating. The people of Israel believe that their lives and security is a cosmic asset that must be maintained at the expense of the rest of humanity. However, make no mistake, Israeli psychosis is consistent and even driven by reason, but this ‘reason’ is somewhat different to that of the rest of us. It is certainly far from being universal.

Rachel Corrie, on the other hand, is a universal symbol. She is the epitome of solidarity, empathic thinking and courage, but her tragic death is also a clear indication that something is fundamentally wrong with Israel. Rachel Corrie’s death makes it clear that it isn’t just the Israeli leadership or military elite who are blind to human life and moral conduct.  It isn’t just Netanyahu or Barak who are in a state of dismissal of human life.  We are dealing here with a murderous continuum; it is the leadership, the anonymous soldier, the bulldozer driver – and also Judge Gershon and the Israeli legal system.

Israel could have used Corrie’s family legal appeal to mend its ways. But Judge Gershon was actually honest enough to admit that the murder of Rachel Corrie was the ‘right thing to do’. It was her fault, she shouldn’t have been there in the first place, he said. Judge Gershon provided us this week with the true meaning of ‘Israeli reasoning’. The murder of Corrie was consistent with Israeli survival philosophy and with Israeli interpretation of Jewish statehood. This week, Judge Gershon left us with a kosher stamp for a cold-blooded murder.

No Right to Exist: the Corrie Verdict and the Jewish State’s Belligerence

By Richard Edmondson

Will President Obama summon his courage and utter a timid peep of protest at the Israeli court’s ruling in the Rachel Corrie case? As I write this it has been about 13 hours since the verdict was announced, and so far we’ve heard nothing. And my guess is we won’t.

In case you haven’t heard, the Haifa District Court has come to the conclusion that the Israeli military is not in any way liable for the death of 23-year-old Rachel, who was crushed beneath a Caterpillar bulldozer driven by an Israeli soldier on March 16, 2003.

Further, while allowing that her death was “regrettable,” Judge Oded Gershon asserted his view that Rachel, and Rachel alone, is to blame for what happened.

“The accident was caused by the deceased,” he said.

We all know, of course, that the only reason the case got the attention it did is because Rachel was an American. Palestinians are killed virtually every day and the media barely yawn. But the verdict in this case highlights Israeli arrogance and impunity in perhaps new ways.

It was not of course as if finding in the Corries’ favor would have cost the state of Israel any money. The suit had sought a total of $1 in damages plus legal costs. So no. It was more an affirmation of Israel’s authority to steal as much land and demolish as many homes as it likes, along with the belief that no one has the right to challenge them on this.

“I reject the suit,” Gershon said. “There is no justification the state pay any damages.”

Not even one dollar.

Interestingly, just a day before the verdict came in, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz disclosed that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had sought to browbeat UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon into cancelling his trip to the Non-aligned Movement conference in Tehran. Reportedly the Israeli leader’s “public appeal to Ban—delivered in what staffers viewed as a condescending tone—backfired, fortifying Ban’s resolve to go.”

The story goes on to report that Netanyahu, instead of exercising discretion about his phone call with Ban, issued a press release detailing everything he had said to the UN official. The prime minister then initiated “a social media drive, calling on Web surfers to send e-mails to the UN secretary-gernal asking him not to fly to Tehran,” the story says.

At the same time, a series of Jewish organizations, including the Anti-Defamation League, the American Jewish Committee and the World Jewish Congress issued press statements harshly criticizing Ban’s plan to travel to the conference in Iran. Ban’s associates were confinced that the attacks by Jewish groups had also been directed by the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem.
So what does this have to do with the Corrie verdict? Probably nothing, other than it illustrates the arrogance constantly on display and emanating from the state of Israel. If you haven’t read my article Rachel Corrie and Daniel Pearl—a curious comparison, you might consider doing so. It’s an article I wrote over a year ago comparing the two cases—that of the Palestine solidarity activist and the Wall Street Journal reporter—both of whom died within 14 months of each other. In the Pearl case, justice was swift in coming. The killers were arrested less than two months after the reporter was killed. They were quickly brought to trial and found guilty, with one of them being sentenced to death. The court case was over less than six months after the crime was committed.

The Rachel Corrie case obviously did not go quite the same way. Criminal charges were never filed against the soldier operating the bulldozer, leaving the family with no other recourse than a civil suit as a means of holding the government of Israel accountable. The Corries filed their suit in 2005. It took seven years to hear the verdict we finally heard today. Seven years—just in order for a judge to say, “The accident was caused by the deceased.”

In the Jewish-dominated world we live in, justice is available to Gentiles only when it doesn’t come at the expense of a Jew. This is certainly the case in the “Jewish state,” and it is becoming increasingly so in America. As I’ve said before, apartheid will end up being Israel’s chief export to the rest of the world. This is why the struggle for justice for Palestine is so vital. It may sound ironic, but this isn’t just for the sake of the Palestinians anymore; it is for all of humanity. The creation of a Palestinian state—not just in the West Bank and Gaza, but all of Palestine—is the only way forward at this point. The Jewish state’s belligerence has repulsed people around the planet. Continuing to tolerate its disregard for international law will lead to disaster.

With the Rachel Corrie verdict the candle flame of its “legitimacy” has finally burned out; Israel has no right to exist.

In the video below, Rachel’s mother responds to the verdict:

Haifa Court: Zionist Army Not at Fault for Corrie’s Death

Local Editor

Rachel Corrie, Martyr of HumanityHaifa court has ruled that the Zionist authorities were not at fault for the death of US activist Rachel Corrie, who was killed in the Gaza Strip by a Zionist army bulldozer in 2003.

Corrie’s family had brought a civil claim for negligence against the Zionist ministry of defense.

The judge said the 23-year-old’s death was a “regrettable accident”.

“I reached the conclusion that there was no negligence on the part of the bulldozer driver,” said Judge Oded Gershon, reading out his verdict at Haifa District Court in northern Occupied Territories.

He said the entity was not responsible for any “damages caused” as they had occurred during “war-time actions”.

Corrie was in the town of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip as part of a group of protesters from the International Solidarity Movement (ISM).

They were acting as human shields to try to stop the Zionist army demolishing Palestinian homes and clearing land around Rafah.

A Zionist army investigation in 2003 concluded its forces were not to blame for Corrie’s death.

The Zionist army argued the area was being used by militants and that the protesters should not have been in a closed military zone.

The army’s investigation found that Corrie was not visible and that she was killed by debris falling on her. But Corrie’s supporters say it is impossible that the bulldozer driver did not see her.

Pictures taken on the day Corrie died show her in an orange high-visibility jacket carrying a megaphone and blocking the path of a Zionist military bulldozer.

A collection of Corrie’s writings was turned into a play – My Name Is Rachel Corrie – which has toured all over the world, including in the Zionist entity and the Palestinian territories.

Verdict in Corrie Case Expected Aug. 28—Family Issues Call to Action

A verdict is expected August 28 in the seven-year-old civil suit brought against Israel for the killing of Rachel Corrie. In connection with that, the Corrie family has issued a call to action that includes, among other things, printing out the above image, photographing yourself holding it, and posting it to a new blog that has been set up. The following comes from the Rachel Corrie Foundation for Peace and Justice website:

Dear Friends,

The Corrie’s are on their way to Haifa for the verdict in their civil lawsuit later this month. We call on you to act in support. For ten years, you have remembered Rachel Corrie and followed the work of her family and many others to pursue accountability and justice in her case. You stood with the Corries when the Israeli Government failed to take responsibility for Rachel’s killing by the Israeli military in 2003. You stood with the Corries when the U.S. Government was largely ineffective despite their finding that the Israeli military police investigation of Rachel’s killing did not meet standards of being “thorough, credible, and transparent.” Seeking every possible avenue to push for transparency and accountability, and on advice of the U.S. Government, the Corrie family brought a civil lawsuit against the Israel Ministry of Defense and State.

Now, nearly 7 1/2 years since the case was filed and nearly 2 1/2 years since the trial in Haifa District Court began, we ask you to continue to stand with the Corries as a verdict is announced the morning of August 28th in the courtroom of Judge Oded Gershon. All of us at the Rachel Corrie Foundation hope the outcome will provide some measure of justice for Rachel’s killing; but regardless, the larger struggle for justice and equal rights continues. Inspired by Rachel’s work and her belief that all Israelis and Palestinians deserve to live in peace with dignity and equality, we continue our efforts:

  • To seek a just peace in the Middle East and an end to the 45-year Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza.
  • To bring visibility to the oppression but also to the spirit and endurance of the people of Gaza and of all Palestinians.
  • To bring attention to the responsibility we all have for the continuing injustices and human rights abuses in Palestine, and for the particular culpability of corporate America and U.S. taxpayers.
  • To end Israel’s impunity regarding human rights violations, including home demolitions.
The Israeli policy of home demolitions, sometimes extending to entire villages, remains as urgent an issue now as it did when Rachel defended homes in Rafah, Gaza. Palestinians in Jerusalem, the Jordan Valley and Hebron Hills live daily with the threat (or reality) of their homes being confiscated or turned into rubble. More than 1,000 houses were demolished in the Naqab alone in 2011, and the Prawer Plan, approved by the Israeli Government in September 2011, will lead to further displacement of 70,000 people. We call on you individually and as organizations to mark the week of the trial verdict with actions to end the housing demolitions that deny Palestinians the basic human right of being secure in their homes.Read more

It was back in May of this year that Israel announced Aug. 28 as the date the verdict in the case would be delivered. Here is what I wrote at the time:

A verdict in the Corrie civil trial is long overdue, and if the Israeli judicial authorities were smart they would resolve this case in the family’s favor. Rachel has become a worldwide symbol of everything that’s wrong with the state of Israel, and failure to render a wrongful-death verdict here will serve no purpose other than to further “delegitimize” the Zionist state and its occupation of Palestinian lands. One might assume the nation’s leaders would be smart enough to figure this out. However, I’m not confident they are. Something about the timing here strikes me as curious. If a verdict has been reached, why wait three months to announce it? We should also remember that the identity of the soldier who drove the bulldozer has never been released. While he gave testimony at the trial, he was allowed to do so from behind a curtain. Members of the Corrie family who were present at the time were never allowed to see his face.

9th Anniversary of Rachel Corrie’s Stand in Gaza

It has been nine years today (16 March) since our daughter Rachel was crushed to death under an Israeli driven, U.S. funded and built, Caterpillar D9 bulldozer in Gaza.

In March 2003, the news was full of talk of war with Iraq – a preemptive war to protect the west, particularly the U.S. and Israel, from the weapons of mass destruction then alleged to have been amassed by Saddam Hussein. When Racheltraveled to Gaza that year, the world was not watching. According to Human Rights Watch, from September 2000 until September 2004, 1,600 Palestinian homes in the city of Rafah were destroyed by the Israeli military as it occupied the Gaza Strip. One-tenth of the population lost their homes. Rachel chose to be in Gaza when the ground attack against Iraq broke out. She feared an escalation of the violence and a tightening of the isolation against people there, as the world looked to the northeast and watched the carnage in Iraq. It did not happen as immediately as some expected, but with the Israeli military attack on Gaza of November 2008 through January 2009, the violence became overwhelming, and the tightening of the seige initiated in 2006 by Israel to remove Hamas, made the isolation nearly complete.

In 2003, Rachel wrote: “I went to a rally a few days ago in Khan Younis in solidarity with the people of Iraq. Many analogies were made about the continuing suffering of the Palestinian people under Israeli occupation and the upcoming occupation of Iraq by the United States – not the war itself – but the certain aftermath of the war. If people aren’t already thinking about the consequences of this war for the people of the entire region then I hope they will start.”

Now, in 2012, we listen to similar news – calls for bombing Iran to prevent it from acquiring nuclear weapons. The preemptive war has already begun with the assassination of Iranian nuclear scientists. Our government tells us sanctions against Iran will pressure their government to abandon any program to develop these weapons, but experience tells us sanctions only increase the defensiveness of repressive regimes and tighten their control over their populations.

The news from our politicians is discouraging and even frightening, but in the meeting places and streets in our communities, we are making the kind of change that Rachel envisioned.

It is happening in Olympia with continuing support for the Olympia Food Co-op’s boycott of Israeli products until the rights of Palestinians are addressed. Throughout Puget Sound this week, we have successfully challenged efforts by the Israeli government to use members of the Israeli gay community to distract from the continuing oppression of Palestinian people.

Churches in our region are conversing about divestment from corporations like Caterpillar Inc. for their refusal to address their continuing participation in human rights abuses and the illegal occupation of the West Bank and Gaza.

In 2002, Rachel wrote, “I think it’s important for people who oppose war and repression to speak about who we are as a community in addition to speaking about war and racism and injustice. We are not outside. I think it’s important that human rights and resistance to oppression be included in the way we define ourselves as a community…” As the threat of war with Iran, the disintegration of the situation in Afghanistan, and the bombing of Gaza continue, the work we are all doing in our hometowns at the grassroots level is powerful and critical. Today, as we remember Rachel’s stand nine years ago, we encourage our friends across the country and world to strengthen your own communities, educate, educate, educate, support each other in taking action, and walk with peace, love, and forgiveness in your hearts as you work for change.

Cindy and Craig Corrie
We are so honored and amazed at the numerous requests we receive from people throughout the world wanting to honor Rachel’s stand on March 16th and beyond.
Here are a just a few ways her memory lives on:

Here in Olympia we are continuing our annual memorial tradition with a community gathering entitled”Gaza On My Mind’ with a potluck, speakers who have recently traveled to Gaza, music and dancing. Details here.

• In Washington D.C., Ray McGovern, retired CIA officer, will be holding a poster of Rachel Corrie and speaking at a before-the-White-House noon-time prayer and reflection on Friday the 16th.
• In Iowa, the Des Moines Catholic Worker has dedicated one of their homes the ‘Rachel Corrie House’ and is now actively working to start up and maintain a year-round presence in occupied Palestine by sending one community member every three months to the Middle East to volunteer with the nonviolent protective accompaniment organization that Rachel worked for, the International Solidarity Movement.
• In Wisconsin, the Madison Rafah Sister City Project is holding it’s annual Rachel Corrie Commemorative Benefit Dinner to fund a water filtration system for the Al-Shuka Girls Preparatory School in Rafah, Palestine.
• In Tokat and Sakarya, Turkey they are continuing the ‘International Day of Conscience” that began in Rachel’s memory with events and a demonstration, carrying posters of Rachel, against all occupations.
• Please send us an e-mail at info (at) to let us know what you are doing in Rachel’s memory.

Rachel Corrie is Dead

by Kashif Ahmed

Its’ been nine years since 23-year-old ‘International Solidarity Movement’ (ISM) activist Rachel Corrie was murdered by the Israeli occupation. None of us will ever forget the cowardly manner in which Zionist Jew squatters deployed weaponized, ‘Caterpillar’ bulldozers against civilians. How they steered the hulking metal beasts around Gaza and demolished Palestinian homes with reckless abandon. How smug IDF conscripts, shipped in from every corner of the globe, backed them up: armed to the teeth with U.S. supplied M-16s, Depleted Uranium rounds, helicopter gun-ships, nail-pin mortars and tanks. Nor shall we forget the courageous Palestinian family whose home Rachel was trying to protect, or her honourable colleagues who stayed by her side despite coming under fire from gutless IDF snipers peering out from fortified watchtowers.

Born and raised in Olympia, Washington; Rachel Corrie was the youngest of three children, her mother Cindy describes their family as “average Americans–politically liberal, economically conservative, middle-class”. A sensitive soul, Rachel, aged 10, eloquently summarised the motivation that would shape the course of her destiny and dictate the decisions of her short, but meaningful, life: “I’m here because I care”, she said, and so it was. Graduating from Capital High, Rachel attended the Evergreen State College and volunteered in the Washington State Conservation Corps, working with vulnerable members of the community and helping out as best she could. In her final year at college, Rachel established a ‘sister city’ programme, twinning Rafah, Palestine with Washington; setting up a pen-pal scheme between American and Palestinian students as well as an independent study program in which she would travel to Palestine with the ISM and observe the situation first hand.

It was there, in the once beautiful province of Gaza, that Rachel witnessed the full extent of the horror endured by Palestinians on a daily basis. She sent e-mails to her mother that vividly captured the sense of terror and dread experienced by a people forced to live like prisoners in their own country: persecuted, impoverished and under constant attack since the Rothschild brokered invasion of 1917-1948.

Feb 14th 2003, Rachel Corrie wrote:
“The internationals stood in the path of the bulldozer and were physically pushed with the shovel backwards, taking shelter in a house. The bulldozer then proceeded on its course, demolishing one side of the house with the internationals inside. The driver then dropped a sound grenade out of the cab of the bulldozer, and continued to demolish the house, at which point the activists were able to escape, amid gunfire from the tank.”

In an interview with the Middle East Broadcasting network on March 14th, 2003, just two days before her murder, Rachel described the plight of the Palestinian family with whom she was staying: “I feel like I’m witnessing the systematic destruction of a people’s ability to survive. Sometimes I sit down to dinner with people and I realize there is a massive military machine surrounding us, trying to kill the people I’m having dinner with”.

Rachel Corrie was killed by an Israeli weaponized bulldozer on March 16th 2003: asphyxiated and crushed to death, the savage assault fractured her spinal column and scapula, broke her ribcage and caused tear wounds in her lungs resulting in a pleural cavity haemorrhage.
An eyewitness account from ISM activist Tom Dale, describes the scene during, and moments after, the attack:

“All the activists were screaming at the bulldozer to stop and gesturing to the crew about Rachel’s presence. We were in clear view as Rachel had been, they continued. They pushed Rachel beneath the blade till her body was beneath the cockpit. They waited over her for a few seconds, before reversing. They reversed with the blade pressed down, so it scraped over her body a second time. Every second I believed they would stop but they never did.”

“I ran for an ambulance, she (Rachel) was gasping and her face was covered in blood from a gash cutting her face from lip to cheek. She was showing signs of brain haemorrhaging. She died a few minutes later of massive internal injuries. She was a brilliant, bright and amazing person, immensely brave and committed. She is gone and I cannot believe it.”

Believe it. And believe that Dr. Samir Nasrallah and family, whose home Rachel was trying to save, managed to resist the Israeli onslaught for a few more months, before the bulldozers returned and finished the job. And believe it when I tell you that extremist Jews and their Christian-Zionist acolytes will applaud these vile deeds just as they would the deaths of anyone who stands up to their warped, antediluvian cult.

Another eyewitness testimony from American ISM volunteer, Greg Schnabel, clearly illustrates the dangers international activists face in Israeli occupied Palestine and the naked aggression of Israeli terrorists against peaceful protestors:

“The bulldozers destroyed part of a home. Members of our group including myself stood inside this home in an attempt to stop them. One bulldozer then moved toward the house of Dr. Samir, one of the families with whom we had relations. Rachel was standing in front of this home. As the bulldozer approached she stood her ground. Rachel was wearing an orange fluorescent jacket. She was clearly visible to the bulldozer driver as well as to the soldiers in the tank. The bulldozer continued to move forward. Rachel began to become buried beneath the dirt. Still it did not stop. Rachel was beneath the bulldozer. The bulldozer did not even pick up its blade. It ran over her completely and continued to advance. It stopped when she was completely underneath the body of the bulldozer. It then moved backwards over her body. I and my friends ran to her. She was obviously in a terrible condition. Her upper lip had been split open and was bleeding. We called an ambulance immediately and continued to monitor her vital signs. She was breathing but she was losing consciousness rapidly. Within a minute she was no longer able to give us her name or speak. We continued to talk to her encouraging her, breathing with her, and telling her we loved her.”

And whilst this anniversary ought to be a time to remember Rachel’s benevolence and compassion, light a candle, do something charitable or console ourselves with prayer and platitudes. I can’t help but turn my focus towards an enemy that has, in no uncertain terms, declared total war on a civilization sworn to resist its parasitic expansionism. For we all remember how supporters of the illegitimate state of Israel responded to Rachel’s death: blanket denials became aggressive accusations which soon turned to macabre mockery and, at last, when the mask had finally slipped; repugnant celebration. For just as extremist Jews / Christian Zionists choked on their own bile and danced the Hora to laud the murder of Palestinian activists by pro-Israel terrorist Anders Brevik in Utoya, Norway. So too, did the same group experience an innately perverse, neo-Talmudic euphoria when ‘shiksa goy’ (derogatory Yiddish term for a non-Jewish girl) Rachel died in the killing fields of Gaza. It was the same outpouring of monstrous glee we saw from Israeli agents Kurzberg, Marmari, Schmuel, & Ellner who danced and whooped on 9/11. The same crooked grins that crept upon their faces when Jewish fanatic Brauch Goldstein opened fire on worshippers in the massacre at the Mosque of Ibrahim, February 25th 1994. The same sadistic, inbred psychopathy that encouraged some Israelis to venerate Goldstein’s grave as an idol. A handful of these hate merchants all but swung the Purim Graggler whilst reciting ‘Zohar Vayshlah’ at the top of their lungs. And lest we forget the U.S. based media outlets that gave these demented ghouls a platform, obediently tending to the Tophet alter like a rasping, wretched throng of servile eunuchs; content to suckle on the bilious teat of Israeli terror.

And I don’t need to patronise our Jew comrades by trotting out the old cliché that: ‘not all Jews are the same’ or some other such nonsense, for it need not be said. The civilized echelons of Jewry, some of whom were inspired by Corrie herself, know all too well that extremists have bastardised Judaism through terror, usury and fraud. I needn’t mention fearless, pro-Palestinian activist Emily Henochowicz, blinded in one eye after being shot at point blank range by an IDF conscript, or Rae Abileah, viciously assaulted by Netanyahu’s thugs on the floor of the U.S. congress. Ben Freidman; who warned the world about Rothschild back in 1946, the great author Jack Bernstein, assassinated by Mossad for his expose of Jewish extremism or one of the first martyrs for Palestine; Dr. Yaakov Yisrael Dehan, ambushed and beaten to death by a gang of Zionist yobs on the streets of Al-Quds Jerusalem in 1924.

I imagine there are some will read this and say that Rachel Corrie would have wanted us to strive for peace, to remain compassionate no matter what the provocation, and its’ probably true. But therein lies her innocence and, at the time, her relative inexperience in engaging an adversary as ruthless as the criminal state of Israel.

No one wants war, but in the immortal words of H. L. Mencken, there comes a time when “…every normal man is tempted to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag and begin slitting throats”. For how many more sieges of Jenin, attacks on the Mavi Marmara, Cast Leads and Qanas will the civilized world tolerate? At the very least, we ought to investigate pro-Israeli agents of influence like Robert Spencer, Yosef Elitzur, Pamela Geller and Yitzhak Shapira who operate in our midst. At the very least, we ought to be curtailing any and all forms of economic support for Israeli linked businesses. And though the ISM, BDS and others have made great strides in deactivating parts of the Anglo-American-Israeli crime nexus and, to a certain extent, have made it a harder for Israeli war criminals and their acolytes to solicit murder or fundraise abroad. The real power still resides with Rothschild and its system of fractional reserve banking / usury, and that’s going to take a lot more than bi-lateral trade agreements, boycotts and commodity based reserve currencies to overcome.

There’s little glory in martyrdom sans victory, and you won’t catch me extolling the virtues of self-sacrifice to soothe the grieving or ply the questionable trade of post-mortem propaganda. For if we fail to stem the tide of international Israeli terrorism, then Rachel will have died in vain. If we fail to impose the complete and unconditional surrender of Rothschild and the restoration of Palestine to her pre-1948 borders, then Rachel will have died in vain. Yes, Rachel Corrie was a woman of peace, of dignity, courage and resolve, but the civilised world must, at some stage, draw a line in the sand, declare our intent and pursue Israeli extremists to the ends of the Earth.

Remember Rachel, remember her bravery and her sacrifice but most of all, remember the cause for which she paid the ultimate price. The moral imperative that must be addressed and seen through to a just conclusion: For Rachel Corrie is dead, her mission lives on.

“If any of us had our lives and welfare completely strangled, lived with children in a shrinking place where we knew, because of previous experience, that soldiers and tanks and bulldozers could come for us at any moment and destroy all the greenhouses that we had been cultivating for however long, and did this while some of us were beaten and held captive with 149 other people for several hours – do you think we might try to use somewhat violent means to protect whatever fragments remained? I think about this especially when I see orchards and greenhouses and fruit trees destroyed – just years of care and cultivation. I think about you and how long it takes to make things grow and what a labour of love it is. I really think, in a similar situation, most people would defend themselves as best they could. I think Uncle Craig would. I think probably Grandma would. I think I would.”

This is old but very powerful..

Ask yourself: Why aren’t Americans shown these honest facts on any of the over 1,700 major media outlets?

Rachel Corrie: ‘a true hero’ was killed by the state of Israel, and by its brutal regime that practises not only ‘mass punishment’ but also ‘ethnic cleansing’. The same regime that has displaced over 4 million Palestinians, and killed many thousands. The same regime that has denied the right to self-determination to the Palestinian people.

A regime that systematically destroys the lives of innocents every single DAY.

Two Nations Destroyed

By Gordon Duff, Senior Editor

There are times I think working at Veterans Today is almost worthwhile. The hours are long, most of the work boring and the pay non-existent.

We are singled out on enemies lists by both Jewish and White Supremacist/Neo Nazi groups for “hate pages,” many addressed to me personally. The Tea Party hates me, the Democrats don’t trust me, Christian Zionists look on me as Satan and I have a higher approval rate, by over 15 points, than any politician in the United States.

‘Dying by the Thousands’

Years ago, before I went into politics and lobbying, I thought of myself as an underachiever, lacking focus, someone “sliding by.” In Washington, I was a “wunderkind.” There is such a thing as setting the bar low, then there is Washington…where they bury it.

What we did, Veterans Today, was hit a nerve in the majority of Americans. We simply tell the truth here. We don’t advocate anything, don’t organize, we function as a simple news organization.

Americans are dying for the truth, literally, by the thousands over the past few years.

9/11 was just a door opener, maybe a false flag nuke attack, another major ground war, perhaps Iran, normally inconceivable considering America’s collapse but such realities as survival of America seem to count for nothing anymore. America is the sacrificial lamb, whether we recognize it or not.

Now it seems Americans will be starving for the truth. If you aren’t aware that congress passed a death sentence against any American without a paid off home and $400,000 cash in the bank, you have not been paying attention. They are our new “lower class.”

Everyone else is destined for years of scraping by, watching their children suffer, no dental care, no money for gas or car repairs, minimum wage jobs until the minimum wage is lowered, that’s in the plans also.

Americans Pay Each One – $30,000

Funny thing, despite the fact, a fact that doesn’t exist as it is unreported, despite the fact American gives Israel $30,000 dollars apiece to every Jewish man, woman and child, Israeli’s are doing much the same.

Americans believed, and some idiots still do, that Muslims were involved in the Bush false flag coup called “9/11″.

Israelis, the dumbest at least, believe the 5th rate puppet dictatorships run by oil companies, the CIA and “unnamed” international organizations, you can guess who runs these, have been trying to kill off the Jews in a new “holocaust” for 60 years.

A short note: Iran has no ability to project military force further than 300 miles to sea, defensive entirely. They have no aircraft carriers, no long range aircraft to speak of. They could certainly bog America down in a thousand year war were we to invade, were there any reason to do so, which there is not.
They have minimal political influence in Iraq, Shiites there don’t really like them, stories to the contrary are lies, like all American news. I have met with Shiite leaders there and know how things work. Any academic or “analyst” knows this but will lie on cue when a dollar is put on the table, just as with journalists.

Iran has secret spies in Afghanistan, a country where there are over 200,000 “secret spies” from a dozen nations. They are also accused of “causing trouble” in Bahrain. More honestly, a vicious dictatorship is butchering people there with full complicity of the United States and nobody will help, not Iran for sure. They are terrified of being accused of “supporting terrorism.”

Recurrent theme:

Rupert Murdoch – Media Puppet Master?

Controlled journalism is treason. Journalists working for Murdoch and his cronies, including the financed internet, slush funded by Koch and Amway and Scaife and the corporate types have to go.

The term I use is “clear and present danger.” Call me “Cass Sonnenstein,” Obama’s Censorship Czar” in reverse.

The systematic control of all media, all history, all reporting, continual hate mongering, pulpits, the airwaves, TV dramas, the highly organized and sinister emails that do the rounds, the heavily financed “best sellers” are all attacks on the American people as much as any war. They are pure terrorism.

I don’t suggest a solution. Should you turn the TV off, unsubscribe to newspapers? It is past that.

There is no basis for freedom left, not when the history you were taught and retaught is fiction. There is a game here, one used to sell you broken cars, kitchen refacing or, of late, we are told we need to spend billions of dollars to give homes to the remaining “holocaust survivors.” Let me digress here.

This is the cover story. As for the truth, some say the holocaust never happened, in many countries those who ask questions go to prison, we know of hundreds doing as much as 15 years for teaching history based on real documents, proven history that disagrees with “popular culture.”

This makes me suspicious but, you know what, I am still looking. What has been proven to me is that the holocaust became a business.

Here is what I was told:

German Mother and Daughters – Raped and Murdered

At the end of the war, several thousand Jews survived death camps. Most of those died of typhus before they could leave Europe. During the last days of the war, the Germans ran the ovens 24 hours a day and spent their last few rounds of ammunition shooting every Jew in the camps.

Photographs of camp liberations don’t show thousands but hundreds.

Small children didn’t survive the camps, we were told that, they were gassed immediately.

Based on normal demographics, people put in camps in 1937 or 1940 or whenever, only kept alive because they were of prime working age, they would have been 32 years old in 1945 when liberated, and, as I have been told over and over, most of them died in the weeks after, as backed up by the photographs of the living skeletons I have seen 10,000 times.

The average age of one of these survivors would be 98 years old. Not just that, but they would be 98 year olds who suffered years of brutality and disease, malnutrition and starvation.

Comparing them to the only similar population I know of, one I belong to, is Vietnam veterans. As a Marine combat vet, I suffered malnutrition, bone loss, tooth loss, Agent Orange poisoning, vitamin deficiencies and decades of poor health. There were nearly 3 million of us, 10% combat vets, yet recent figures show only 700,000 of us have reached 60 years old.

Night Ambush Over – Day Job Begins – Gordon Duff

I have a list of friends who have been treated for a cascade of cancers for decades. Few of us are alive, in fact I have, according to doctors, been on borrowed time since 1995.

Worse still, the same demographics apply to Gulf War I veterans and our current group, supposedly fed 6,000 calories a day, average cost of their meals as supplied by Haliburton, an oil supply company, is $38.00 each, well above the gross pay of the average working American.

Problem is, tens of thousands of our current military are also being fed medications, some experimental, that cost even more.

Anecdotal reports, as real figures are “top secret,” show military and vets, young men and women, killing themselves in record numbers, continually ill despite billions spent to keep them healthy, hundreds of billions to, supposedly, keep them safe from harm, they are dying like flies also.

Americans are being told that they have to financially “back away” from their veterans, their old, their poor and spend billions to take care of 200,000 holocaust survivors, more money to add to the billions channeled to Israel, $3 billion in foreign aid and 6 to 10 times that in different “financial packages” and “trade subsidies.” It is all money taken from the US.

…by Norman Finkelstein

You do know that for 65 years, the German government has spent tens and tens of billions compensating holocaust survivors. You may not know that as many as 2 million Americans, I come very close to qualifying myself, can, according to a bizarre set of definitions, call themselves “holocaust survivors.”

I’m not going to begin to say the holocaust didn’t happen though I couldn’t prove it did without using materials that are highly speculative. This just isn’t my job.

I simply know that dozens of countries have passed laws outlawing discussion of the holocaust, laws pushed through by huge financial payoffs from powerful organizations, laws that run totally contrary to UN human rights and freedom of speech initiatives.

In fact, the moves against those who attack the holocaust, right or wrong, it isn’t the question here, are, in fact, technically “war crimes.” There isn’t a shadow of difference between putting a college professor in solitary confinement in Austria or Canada for saying only 5,999,000 Jews were killed, and this really is a law in these countries, for up to 15 years, than what the Nazis were accused of.

There isn’t one shadow of a difference.

Now planeloads of congressmen are heading to Israel where the people are in the streets claiming they live in a dictatorship, demanding the removal of their Prime Minister, Bibi Netanyahu.
Didn’t see it in the papers? Suppressed news?

Here is a story about Israel.

Israeli young people can’t get jobs and can’t afford food and housing. They say their lives are being destroyed. I saw a young man on video two days ago saying he was ready to sacrifice his life for his country.

Rachel Corrie – After the Bulldozer Treatment

My first thought, was he going to kill Palestinian children or perhaps run down Rachel Corrie with a bulldozer then I remembered I burned down villages in Vietnam.

I am not in a position to make accusations like these.

All war is pre financial scam, generally based on some form of race hatred peddled by media and phony history. How long has this been going on? What do you think the Old Testament is? This is pure propaganda, pure race hatred, an invented g-d that advocated killing, theft of land, apartheid and race extermination.

Don’t like hearing it? Of late, there has been a lot of talk about the dangers of Sharia law, the stonings, the craziness. You are aware, of course, that the worst of Sharia law, and I don’t care for it much, comes from the Old Testament? Like the new one?

Think of the Spanish Inquisition or 60,000 Huguenots burned alive in one day in Paris or 1 in 3 older women burned as witches for 500 years or the use of religion to subjugate the Americas, Africa and Asia, hardly colonialism but centuries of slavery that, to an extent, continues.

Karl Marx – Formerly with the New York Times

If you don’t think Islam has been bent to serve the will of the oppressor, you aren’t paying attention either. Why do you think damning Karl Marx was so important? Anyone speaking up against war for profit, against propaganda, against destruction of human culture, against eternal slavery had to be a threat.

Thank goodness the Soviet Union was such a poorly run rathole country. They made killing off socialism easy.

The hell on earth we are enjoying now, a planet raped, destroyed, irradiated beyond measure by the Japanese plutonium pits, the hopelessness felt around the world because of financial gangsterism, unrestrained, unbridled, controlling all major governments, all banks, using armies and police forces, news media…..

Picking up the pattern here?

A second of more “Israel.” Young people there ask why, but don’t ask very loudly, not really. Years of being lobotomized has left most indolent, like, well, like Americans.

How do they, the young of Israel, expect to live? They have to compete for housing with rich American Jews who see Israel as a new Miami Beach. A group that controls up to 40% of the world’s wealth can really screw up a real estate market.

Hell, they managed to have a couple of million Palestinians thrown into concentration camps and still manage to arrange for the news to and popular culture to label the victims as terrorists. Now Jews notice they are victims too. Welcome to our world.

Guest Worker Kids Protesting in Israel

Stop for a second. Do you know what a “guest worker” is? This is someone from Bangladesh or Thailand or Indonesia that comes to your country and takes your job.

They don’t have to be paid, not much, they have no rights, they just have your job. Israel has a million of them. It was easy bringing them in.

After all, young rich American Jews, sent to Israel on vacation were not going to be able to support Israel’s agricultural export economy by picking cucumbers with those Ivy League hands.
Someone had to do the work in the world’s 4th largest arms export economy.
And, when the Palestinians had to be removed forcibly, angry people sick of having their homes bulldozed and their rights taken, people who no longer fit into the “Catskills” on the Med” version of Israel, they had to be replaced by young Jews working for minimum wage or foreign workers.

Thai Agricutural Workers in Israel

And, of course, when you remove 3 million people with strong commercial and agricultural roots from an economy, your only other hope is to become a beggar nation.

You are stuck in an eternal cycle of US foreign aid, bribing and blackmailing congressmen like the new planeloads heading over now and lying on the news, led by Zionist extremist Rupert Murdoch.

The Israeli people? They will do better than Americans and are but they don’t know it. Homeless, unemployed but they have free medical care, they have social programs, all paid for by American taxpayers while American kids will do without.

Is it their fault? Actually no.

Uri Avnery – Mr. Peace in Israel

Fix it? Peace and justice work. Rebuilding Israel or, more rightly, Judea, as a home for everyone there, no special religious laws, no sectors with more rights than others, this would be an answer. What would it take?

Humanity, righteousness, honor and hard work, an end to manipulation, a cleansing of crooked politics, an end to apartheid and the police state, not just in Israel but dozens of countries also.
Egypt tried it and is fighting for its life, the last vestiges of their brutal dictatorship holding on, maybe even winning.

Worst of all is America. You can’t imagine how hard this is for me to say. When I hear mention of the constitution, invariably the money behind the message is pure “police state.” “Tea Party” means “police state,” dictatorship.

But it goes further.

Grab Your Stones Folks – Maybe all You Will Have Left

America has failed. It has become a feudal nation with a dwindling middle class, dead political traditions, a threat to the peace of the world, an economic debacle, the center of lies and filth, not even a nation at all.

America is, increasingly, the brothel for a global conspiracy clearly designed, as “conspiratorialists” are now raving about, to depopulate the world and bring about decades of civil unrest.

The end goal will be a world dictatorship.

Watch the last years, look at everything that has happened. I so much hate hearing conspiracy theory about AIDS and vaccinations, about “chemtrails” and “HAARP.”

90% of ‘conspiracy theory’ is paid for by the police state. Which are the real conspiracies? When the corporate media peddles press releases, junk science and a mythology clearly serving an agenda of political indoctrination and human slavery, in reality, when studied, very much both “brain washing” or “mind control,” no one is left to differentiate anything. By today’s journalistic standards, the rising of the sun could be considered conspiracy theory.

I am now expecting, my guess, and, as I say so often, check my track record, more diseases to pop up. Like any spineless journalist, I can predict the London riots days after they start. Better people predicted this and Norway and the yet unrealized worldwide disaster of Japan that continues as I write.
Look around you, whether you live in Britain or Germany, Norway or Poland, Israel or the United States.

You are lied to and lap up the lies like a dog at vomit? Are you ready to stop?
You are ruled, not governed.

Look around you. Open your senses. Do you feel free or do you feel something, something I describe as a worldwide criminal conspiracy that knows no borders and respects nothing? Do you, on more than a rare occasion, suspect your “government” hates you and would be happier if you and your children were buried and forgotten? This is a common theme.

We have all reached a point where there is no amount of death, no amount of war, no amount of hopelessness is enough. We are being taught to feed off the suffering of others, taught to take pride in living on our knees.

We are being educated, conditioned, we are raising our own children to be things we all should be ashamed of.

Listen to how our own children talk, what they learn, what they believe, not just the religions increasingly steeped in race hatred and cheap politics but the “moral flexibility.”
In the end, an inexorable end, we will have bred generations, Orwellian generations, capable of endless cruelty.

Watch the news, what news we have. Nothing can hide it.

In case you missed it:

Killing Rachel Corrie Twice

 by Stephen Lendman

On May 16, at 6:54AM Gaza time (3:54AM GMT), in international waters, an Israeli naval vessel attacked the Malaysian owned Spirit of Rachel Corrie ship (officially the MV Finch), carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza. More details below.

Lawless Monday followed Nakba Day’s bloody Sunday, Israeli security forces assaulting unprecedented numbers of nonviolent demonstrators in Gaza, the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and along the Lebanese/Syrian borders.

Egypt was complicit, blocking activists from reaching Rafah. So was Jordan, forcefully preventing Palestinian supporters from approaching the King Hussein Jordan River Crossing Point.

Nonetheless, the day was potentially historic. Activists hope it will inspire greater global support for Palestinian liberation and justice, what only hindsight will show.

Up to two dozen were killed, scores injured, and many arrested, soldiers and police firing high-velocity tear gas canisters at point blank range, rubber bullets, live ammunition, and tank shell warning shots, a shocking display of violence given scant coverage in America’s media.

Now this, Israelis attacking Rachel Corrie’s spirit after an Israeli bulldozer operator killed her in Gaza on March 16, 2003. Trying to stop a Rafah refugee camp home’s demolition, witnesses said she climbed atop the giant Caterpillar tractor, spoke to the driver, climbed down, knelt 10 – 20 meters in front in clear view, blocking its path with her body. With activists screaming for it to stop, the soldier-operator crushed her to death deliberately, running her over twice to be sure.

On May 14, 2010, the MV Rachael Corrie sailed from Europe to Gaza. Other vessels, nine in all, tried to break the siege to deliver vitally needed aid, including over 10,000 tons of food, medicines, educational and construction materials.

They never made it. Israeli commandos intercepted them, killing at least nine unarmed activists on board the Mavi Marmara mother ship, injuring dozens, and arresting survivors. After stealing their property and harassing them for several days in confinement to deter future missions, they were released and sent home.

Israel miscalculated. They’re coming. Besides US and other initiatives, the European Campaign to End the Siege on Gaza (ECESG) plans new missions to deliver essentially needed aid.

It’s an “umbrella body of 34 European human rights and humanitarian organizations,” supporting the right of Palestinians “to live in peace and dignity,” to be free from occupation, and to have “their own independent and sovereign state.” It also “encourages all peoples of conscience and human rights advocates to intensify their efforts to highlight this life-threatening issue and end the catastrophe.”

Its web site provides current information of its mission, including planned events and actions, accessed through the following link:

Saying they won’t be intimidated, they’re “putting Israel on notice,” adding:

“We are Coming

We are Unarmed

We are Civilian

You have no right to threaten us

We Expect to Reach Gaza without any Interference.”

In fact, Israel will confront them belligerently, including a planned FREEDOM FLOTILLA – STAY HUMAN voyage honoring slain journalist/activist Vittorio Arrigoni, a heroic freedom fighter like Rachel. Martyred for a just cause, their spirit inspires others to go on. Indeed, their right over wrong commitment won’t ever be deterred, a lesson Israel insists on learning the hard way.

“There is nothing Israel – or our own governments – can do to frighten us into abandoning the 1.6 million ‘prisoners’ of Gaza,” said ECESG spokesperson Rami Abdo. “We stand on the right side of history. If they continue their campaign of tyranny, however, we will only become more determined.”

In fact, organizers of last May’s “Freedom Flotilla” plan a mid-June “Freedom Flotilla Two. (FF 2).” Activists from 22 European, North American and Asian Free Gaza Movement-connected humanitarian organizations will attempt to break Israel’s siege and deliver vitally needed aid.

Around 15 ships and over 1,000 activists are involved, sailing from various ports. Israel said preparations are underway to stop them, perhaps as violently as against last May’s mission.

On April 9 and 10, its Steering Committee met in Athens, continuing mission preparations. Aware of Israel’s plans, they’re:

“calling on all our governments, the international community and the United Nations not to succumb to Israel’s intimidation. Governments need to fulfill their ‘responsibility to protect’ their own citizens.”

An ECESG initiative, FF 2 partners include participants from over 50 countries, including European Jews for a Just Peace.

Spirit of Rachel Corrie Attacked

Sponsored by the Perdana Global Peace Foundation (PGPF), headed by former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamed, a May 16 press release explained what happened, accessed from the following link:

Mohamed said:

“The Palestinian struggle is nothing more than a struggle for justice, to which they, as much as everyone else, have a right.”

He knows and supports it. Israel, Washington, and most other Western nations spurn it, denying Palestinians their international law guaranteed rights, including to life.

On May 16, Global Research editor Michel Chossudovsky featured the incident on Global, a link accessing his account below:

He said an Israeli and Egyptian ship intercepted MV Finch in international waters, an act of piracy, adding that new details will be posted when learned.

On May 11, the ship departed Port of Piraeus, Greece, carrying vitally needed plastic sewage pipes to restore the system Israel destroyed in its 2007 – 08 Cast Lead attack. Under siege, restoration can’t happen without help.

As a result, up to 95% of Gaza’s aquifer water is unsafe to drink because Israeli forces destroyed 20 km of water pipes, 7.5 km of sewage pipes, and 5,700 mobile water tanks. In 2009, Amnesty International (AI) addressed the problem in its report titled, “Troubled Waters – Palestinians Denied Fair Access to Water.”

Moreover, Military Orders applying only to Palestinians give Israel control over water, including:

— No. 92 controlling all West Bank and Gaza water;
— No. 158 stipulating that Palestinians can’t construct water installations without (nearly impossible to get) permits; moreover, those built without them will be confiscated; and
— No. 291 annulling all land and water-related arrangements prior to the occupation.

Destroyed and under siege, Gaza’s Coastal Aquifer is polluted by raw sewage from waste collection pond cesspits and seawater, itself contaminated by about 80 million liters of untreated or partially treated daily discharges into the Mediterranean Sea.

As a result, waterborne diseases are common, UNWRA reporting in February 2009 that:

“Water diarrhea as well as acute bloody diarrhea remain the major causes of morbidity among reportable infectious diseases in (Gaza’s) refugee population….”

In September 2009, according to the UN Environment Programme (UNEP):

“The pollution of groundwater is contributing to two main types of water contamination in the Gaza Strip. First and most importantly, it is causing the nitrate levels in the groundwater to increase. In most parts of (Gaza), especially around areas of intensive sewage infiltration, the nitrate level in groundwater is far above (accepted) guidelines….Second, because the water abstracted now is high in salt, the sewage is also very saline. (It’s well known that higher drinking water nitrate levels) can induce methemoglobinaemia (a blood disorder) in young children.”

Moreover, Gaza’s shoreline is polluted, posing serious health hazards because raw sewage is dumped daily into the Mediterranean Sea through 16 discharge sites along the coast.

Gaza TV quoted PGPF member Shamsul Azhar saying:

After Israeli forces fired warning shots, it forced MV Finch “to anchor in Egyptian waters, 30 nautical miles from Gaza.”

Malaysian journalist on board, Alang Mendahara, said:

“The Israeli naval vessel fired a warning shot at us upon approaching and asked us to leave the waters, but the ship’s captain refused and the Israelis fired again, circling the MV Finch before firing twice more.”

Bendahara said ship participants included seven Malaysians, two Irish, two Indians and a Canadian. No one was hurt. Events like this are fluid. A follow-up article will explain more if relevant information permits.

For now, Israel remains a global menace and no fit state to live in, including for Jews.

Lauren Booth: Vittorio and Israel’s attack on the Intellectual Intifada

By: Lauren Booth
Additional Material; C Grayson
The killing of Vittorio (Vik) Arrigoni in Gaza this weeks follows (too) closely, the murder of pro-Palestinian peace activist Juliano Mer Khamis in the West Bank. Juliano, 52, was shot dead outside the Freedom Theatre in Jenin Refugee Camp on the West Bank on the 4th April. His documentary Arnas’s Children detailed the work of his mother in helping Palestinian children deal with the trauma of living under Occupation through the use of drama and self – expression.
Juliano was untimely, bloody, end was one he had predicted three years ago on Israeli television.
Vittorio Arrigoni was found, this week, hung, by armed ‘fanatics’ in an apartment in Gaza. An end he would never, ever, have predicted.
There was worldwide condemnation for the killing of both men.
For friends of Vik, touched forever by his deep, smile filled voice, the pain of loss is made more acute by two factors. The first is the brutal manner of his death. For, Vik, was a gentle giant. A Samson in size and appearance, black curly hair about his rugged face. HIs arm muscles, there to scoop up a passing child, or wave the Palestinian flag at a moments notice, in the face of Israeli sniper fire, aimed at farmers attempting to harvest crops, or at fishing the coastal Gazan waters.
That a man dedicated to non violent resistance should die in violence is bad enough.
Worse, far worse is this; That his avowed enemies the ‘Fascisti’ in Israel (as he would call the government there) seek to make political gains from a life lived in direct challenge to them. This, as much as the sight of that last, dreadful film showing his eyes taped and his face bruised, is a knife in the heart of all who loved or knew of him.
The headline ‘Italian peace activist killed by Palestinian extremists’ is an Israeli propagandists wet dream. A gift as potentially large in its political implications as the now inevitable retraction by the UN of the Goldstone report.
Two reasons. firstly, if nothing is done, and fast, Israel will use the momentum of these two machinated events, as an excuse to re invade the Gaza Strip under the auspices of ‘terrorism and security’ issues.
Secondly, Israeli is seeking to end the growing momentum of the siege breaking movement and the increasing appeal of the ISM (International Solidarity Movement).
Which brings us to timing of both Juliano and Vittorio’s murders. Both men were respected for their creative work. Juliano, for inspiring a new generation of actors and writers in Jenin and for his film making on the subject of life under Occupation.
Vik for his award winning writings and broadcasts, on the suffering of the Palestinians in Gaza.
Both men were part of a new uprising, arguably, the most successful yet. The uprising that hurts Israel where it hurts most – in the TV studios of Europe and the US, right in the intelligentsia. Their impact on the Israel ‘fascisti’ machine was a phenomenon in the expanding worlds of twitter and facebook. They had voices like no others in this movement.
More though. Vik was pivotal in the reformation of the ISM Gaza Group, the non violent resistance team, put on hold after the murders of two of its members by Israeli forces ; Tom Hurndall and Rachel Corrie. After it became clear that Israel’s leaders had taken the decision not only not to ignore the human rights of internationals in the West Bank and Gaza (thus putting them on a par with Palestinians), but to actively target them. The ISM in Gaza took time to consider whether it could encourage, young activists to join them on the ever increasingly mission to accompany Gazans about their daily business. Human shield work. Tom Hurndall and Rachel Corrie’s deaths were part of a dedicated attack by Israel on the work of the increasingly effective ISM.
More recently, IOF commanders have been focusing their attention on the Freegaza Movements efforts to break the siege of Gaza by sea.
It is no coincidence then that both Juliano and Vittorio should die within two weeks. Both, at the hands of unknown Palestinian ‘cells.’ As they say on children’s TV – tell us boys and girls what’s wrong with this picture?
Israel’s supporters will doubtless feel affronted at the assertion that Vittorio was murdered by those almost certainly in the pay of the Jewish State. But they can’t have their dark ops cake and eat it too. Not this time. Too many of us have our eyes open to the filthy tactics employed by Israel every time they come under intellectual attack. And there is no doubt that Israeli Apartheid is losing traction by the day.
Still unsure who was behind Vittorio’s murder? Well, how often have the Israeli press lauded and applauded ‘covert ops’ in the Occupied Territories? Want some examples?
Fine. In 1952, Shin Bet agents were sent undercover to spy inside Palestinian villages. Ten Jewish men assimilated into Arab communities in the early 1950s, marrying local women and starting families with them, were, all the while serving in the Shin Bet as “mistaarvim,” literally- masqueraders. The men learned the Palestinian dialect, studied the Quran and espionage techniques in an Intelligence Corps base near Ramla. With a detailed cover story, they were sent into Palestinian villages and cities pretending to be refugees from the Nakba returning home.

Just this year, Israel has carried out an assassination in Dubai of a Hamas member (or as it was known in the British media – the ‘passports scandal’). Mossad operatives have kidnapped a Palestinian engineer from the Ukraine, who is now, illegally held in an Israeli prison.
And what of the sadistic coercion that Palestinians with chronic illnesses have been subjected to by Shin Bet? Known in Gaza as treachery for treatment?
A Palestinian patient requests a permit from the Israeli- Palestinian Civil Liaisons Department to be allowed to travel from Gaza to the West Bank or Israel for an operation. After exhausting efforts, patients receive permits and go to Erez. Prominent human rights centres report that Shin Bet officers, then attempt to coerce and entrap patients, to do dirty work for them in their home towns and villages in return for rapid and/or ongoing medial treatment.
Yes folks, spies-for-health.
Israel then, ‘has form’ when it comes to lying, murdering, and coercion, for its own ends.
As Hamas rounds up the perpetrators of this most recent, deadly crime, the Gaza grapevine is buzzing with the news that they will indeed be found to be, (as suspected from the get-go), Israeli collaborators.
Statements of denial from the ‘Salafis’ accused of the murder have already been issued. Despite the fact the Western media is still running with the story of their guilt.
There were statements from Tawid wal – Jihad and Ma’sadat al- Mujahedin  An excerpt from a statement read,  “we strongly deny any responsibility for or connection to the kidnapping of the Italian (Vittorio Arrigoni)… Our statements are distributed exclusively through Shoumouk al – Islam, Attahadi Network and the Ansar al-Mujahideen Network…Any statement attributed to us that are not released through these channels, have nothing to do with us, even if they are published on Jihadi websites…”
So, who benefits from the killing of Vittorio Arrigoni? And what is the significance of the timing of his murder?
Well, if it smells like s***t and looks like s**t it almost certainly is – Israel.
Sure, the kidnappers’ video looked genuine at first. It had all the customary layout of the kind of ‘Jihadi’ videos that the tabloid press loves: the black flag of Islam, the Quranic verse in the introduction, footage of the kidnapped victim. But a small detail on the black flag, underneath the precious, Islamically untouchable phrase ‘There is No God, but God’ raises questions about the authenticity of the groups grasp on Islam. The extra words read something like “the Brigades of Muhammad Ibn Maslama.” This has been hard for experts to verify because the video is being systematically pulled off YouTube. But one thing is certain; ‘Jihadis’ never write ANYTHING on the flag besides La Ilaha Ila Allah.

Also unusual, was the lack of customary logos of the Jihadi media distribution channels: Shoumoukh al-Islam, Ansar al-Mujahideen, Global Islamic Media Front, etc. (See the statement of denial above).

You know what, right now, who cares?
Vik; friend, solidarity activist, hero, author, is dead and his enemy is making gains from his life. A life dedicated to the opposition of Israeli Fascism.
So what can, what should be done, must be the focus now, not only of his friends, but of all those who support the cause of Palestinian justice.
It was in 2008, as a passenger of the Freegaza, that Vittorio arrived in Gaza for the first time. I had the pleasure of being one of the activists arriving, alongside him on that day. During the weeks preceding the successful crossing all of the passengers had considered Israel’s possible tactics for stopping a sea channel from effectively opening up. Two options seemed most likely.
A massively violent boarding of the ships, incurring several deaths, that would act as a warning to other potential voyagers not to sail
The option, I feared most. The use of on-the-ground collaborators to do Israel’s dirty work for them. A network of paid for ‘cells’ who would pick off activists one by one in the Gaza strip. Thus, both terrifying the solidarity movement AND providing Israel with some much needed beneficial headlines of the kind we have seen since Vik’s death.

We know all to well, the bloody massacre that took place last year on the Mavi Marmara, committed by Israeli forces.

Now, as the second Armada plans to chart the same course on or near the anniversary of that sailing, Israel is pulling out all the stops, in its efforts to stop, frighten, threaten and deter, hundreds more activists from taking action against their Apartheid state.
Israel’s ambassador to Turkey, Gaby Levy, has just asked the Turkish government to help halt the flotilla movement saying their sailing would be a “provocation.” Asked about the pressure, a Turkish foreign ministry official told Reuters: “We listened to the message given by the Israeli side and told them this is an initiative by civil society.”
The official did not elaborate.
Strike one, for Israel.
But the efforts continued.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called on EU ambassadors in Jerusalem saying “This flotilla must be stopped.”
And there’s more. On April 1, Netahyahu’s office asked UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to stop the flotilla setting sail.
Netanyahu told Ban Ki-moon that the mission of ships was being organized by (guess who folks?) “Islamic extremist elements” intent on bringing about “a flare-up.”
Then, on Wednesday, the morally bankrupt, Silvio Berlusconi, told Israel Radio, that he would work to prevent the next flotilla bound for Gaza, from sailing.
Berlusconi said that a peaceful Middle East is farther from reality now than it ever has been before, adding that Israel has no viable peace partner. He even asserted that Israel is the only Middle Eastern country that the West can trust, and that Israel should join the European Union.
The next day, Vik was kidnapped.
The same night, before any realistic negotiations could take place for his release, Vik was murdered.
Feeling sick yet? Yeah, me too.
Because this was a hit. A hit carried out to intimidate, to frighten off those who have already signed up for the next flotilla to Gaza and may be traveling there for the first time, Those unsure of the exceptional good will and generosity of the people there. A good will Vik would tell you about.
If he were still here.
We mustn’t let the Israeli ‘fascisti’ succeed in their latest terror tactic. Early signs are that for all the pain Vik’s death has caused, all the tears that have flowed. that we, in the solidarity movement will only grow more determined, in light of this crime.
Since his death the ISM has reported a sharp rise in people wanting to go to Palestine.
Meanwhile,a Freegagza Movement contact, tells me that no one from the next convoy expected to include Turkish, Algerian, Scottish, Spanish, Dutch, Irish, Italian, Swedish, Norwegian, Jordanian, Malaysian, Indonesian, Swiss, US, Canadian, British and French nationals, has pulled out as a result of Vik’s murder.
And now, the incredible news comes; That Vik’s own mother will sail to Gaza on the next flotilla.
Agidea Prata told Italian news sources yesterday; “I want to see (the) Gaza that my son loved and sacrificed for, I want to meet the good people living there that my son Vik always talked about”.
Vittorio’s mother knew about the death threats Vittorio received from a right wing American group on their website. She also knew that he loved the people of Gaza with every ounce of his formidable strength, with his every smile, and his every waking moment.
Yesterday, organizers of the  Free Gaza flotilla announced that the coming voyage to Gaza will be named “ Freedom Flotilla – Stay Human” in honor of our fallen friend, Vittorio Arrigoni.
Now it’s time for the Palestinian leaders to pay a decent tribute to this great man. No. Scratch that. As Vik himself would say; it’s time for them to pay a decent tribute to ALL the fallen Palestinian martyrs.
What a great day it will be if in June, Agidea Prata, Vittorio’s mother, sails to Gaza to be met by a single, united, government.
Imagine it Vik. Abbas and Haniyeh side by side. One Palestine, one voice. One government able to stop Israel from infiltrating their midsts and murdering those who come in hope and solidarity.
As my dear, wonderful, strong, funny, friend, Vik would say
‘Come ON!’

Testimonies conflict during Corrie civil suit

[ 04/04/2011 – 07:41 PM ]

RAMALLAH, (PIC)– Testimonies conflicted as defendants took the stand during Sunday’s hearing of a civil suit that followed the death of US activist Rachel Corrie.

She was crushed to death by a bulldozer in 2003 near the Rafah border crossing in the southern Gaza Strip as the Israeli army carried out demolition works.

Testifying for the first time without a screen, but still concealing his identity, SL, who led the army’s bulldozer unit in question, claimed that civilian presence is prohibited during operations, which must be stopped immediately if someone appears at the site.

The statement conflicts with the witness’s initial one in a prior hearing.

”We’ve heard two statements,” said Hussein Abu Hussein, one of the attorney’s pleading for the Corrie family. ”The major who trains the bulldozer driver has admitted that, according to procedures, the army must prevent any person from coming within twenty meters of the bulldozers’ operations, and that operations must be stopped if anyone is injured. He practically retracted his first testimony, which raises many questions.”

The second witness, an army major at the scene, said if it came to him he would have stopped the operation immediately, but his captain stopped him from doing so. He also said they did everything in their ability to prevent incidence of damage.

According to Hussein, the army was not concerned about the lives of civilians who were present and continued the operation despite dangerous circumstances.

Rachel Corrie: ‘Mother Teresa for Islamists’

Posted on March 15, 2011 by rehmat1|

The Zionazi terrorist Dr. Steven Plaut (Haifa University) in his article ‘Welcome to Haifa, Mr. and Mrs. Corrie’, published in The Jewish Press (March 3, 2011), wrote: “Corrie has since become a sort of Mother Teresa for the radical left and apologists for Islamofascism. She is the martyr saint of the pro-terror lobby and is even celebrated by Klansman David Duke”.

David Duke, no doubt was associated with the racist group KKK (with Jewish Freemasonry ties and its founder Albert Pike was a Satanic) in the past – and so was Jewish Daniel Burros who became the New York State organizer for Robert Shelton’s United Klans of America (UKA).

However, the real issue between the Zionist thugs and David Duke is that he had delivered a speech at the 2006 Tehran Holocaust Conference.

Steven in his self-denial nature wrote: “The city of Haifa is still recovering from the trauma of the summer of 2006, when it, along with the rest of northern Israel, was targeted by thousands of Katyusha rockets, fired from southern Lebanon by Hizbullah terrorists. Haifa has also been targeted by several suicide bombers who carried out mass murders against civilians in buses and restaurants”.

I mean how dare Hizbullah fighters fire thousands of Katyusha on the European Jews who had already suffered so much at the hands of the Judeo-Christian Nazis? Don’t these Shia Muslims know that while Muslims have 57-states, why the western Jews cannot have just one state in the Arab world (BTW, Sikhs who have five-times greater population than Jews, don’t have a state of their own)? Why Arabs who kill each other on daily basis fire those Katyusha on the harmless Jews next door, who just want to live in peace on Arab land. Also, it is not fair to target the coward Jew soldiers traveling in school buses and disco clubs. On the other hand, some analyst familiar with Zionists’ nature – believe that most of the suicide-bombing had been carried out by Israelis themselves to demonize the Arabs.

In reality, the Israeli trauma of the summer of 2006, is not the result of the thousands of Katyusha rockets, but the military defeat of 30,000-strong Jewish army received at the hands of 1500 Hizbullah fighters.

American poet and writer, Dr. Lasha Darkmoon, in a brilliant article, entitled Our Rachel, has compared the truth behind Rachel Corrie’s cold-blooded murder by the Ziofascists, Israel’s official lies and the subverted US nation’s reaction at the murder of one of its 23-year-old White-Christian citizen. A similar pathetic reaction was repeated on the Israeli murder of a US-Turk citizen on Gaza flotilla on May 31, 210.
The day after Rachel’s death there was a memorial service for her in Gaza. Many Palestinians attended this service, the men’s faces etched with silent grief, the women’s eyes streaming tears. Here was a lovely American girl in the full flower of her youth who had died for Palestine.

Not to be excluded, the Israelis decided to attend Rachel’s memorial service too. To mock and gloat. The same bulldozer that had killed her was sent in to disrupt the ceremony. And this it did.

Clearly the death of this iconic figure was a public relations disaster for Israel. The effect of decades of Holocaust propaganda must have unravelled in a single instant. You bastards, you killed our Rachel! This must have been the thought uppermost in the minds of millions of Americans on hearing the tragic news of Rachel’s death. The ability to squeeze tears from non-Jewish eyes for Jewish suffering must have suffered a serious setback at this point. Why should we mourn your dead at Auschwitz when you killed our beautiful Rachel?

I found myself buying a candle for Rachel and lighting it before a side altar in the Benedictine abbey near my home, offering up this prayer: “Lord Jesus Christ, protector of the weak, let Israel come to a speedy and peaceful end and the Jews be sent on their travels again—back to the countries where they belong!”
On April 5, a mere three weeks after Rachel’s death, peace activist Brian Avery was shot in the face by IDF forces and severely disfigured. Six days after that, on April 11, it was another peace activist’s turn. British ISM volunteer Tom Hurndall was shot in the head by an IDF soldier and left clinically brain dead, dying nine months later.

Many similar incidents followed, demonstrating that the bad publicity resulting from Rachel’s death had done nothing to galvanize Israel into taking remedial steps to improve its image.

The number of foreigners killed and injured in Israel are a mere miniscule fraction of the number of Palestinians put through the mad mangle. More than 45,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israel within the last ten years. Countless more have been injured.

Despite the fact that Israel has violated 65 UN resolutions, the US government continues to give this parasitic pariah state $8.2 million per day. Total “direct” aid to Israel has been conservatively estimated at $140 billion. It is interesting to note that, when indirect aid is added to this enormous sum, the total cost to the American taxpayer is a staggering $3 trillion — the identical amount, by the way, that Rabbi Dov Zakheim managed to “lose” or “misplace” when he was Chief Financial Officer at the Pentagon a few years ago.

Israel’s evidence questioned as Corrie trial resumes

Report, The Electronic Intifada, 7 September 2010

Testimonies resumed in the ongoing civil suit lodged by Rachel Corrie’s family against the State of Israel in Haifa’s District Court this week, as the state’s defense team called three witnesses to the stand.

On 16 March 2003, Rachel Corrie, a 23-year-old American activist with the International Solidarity Movement (ISM), was crushed and killed by an Israeli soldier operating an armored, modified Caterpillar D9-R bulldozer. Corrie was attempting to nonviolently block the vehicle from destroying the home of a Palestinian family in Rafah in the south of the occupied Gaza Strip.

The Corries’ civil lawsuit charges Israel with criminal negligence and the intentional killing of their daughter, as well as a failure of due regard to the presence of unarmed and nonviolent civilians by operators of a military vehicle and their commanders. Last March, the Corries’ witness testimonies were first heard in court.

US Consul General Andrew Parker and members of Palestinian human rights groups Al-Haq and Adalah, along with the Corries’ friends and family, attended the trials on 5 and 6 September.

State attorneys and their witnesses insisted that the Israeli military bulldozer operators should be absolved of responsibility and liability under Israeli and international law in Corrie’s killing, claiming that her death took place inside a “closed military zone” during an “act of war.”

At the time, the Israeli military was in the process of razing hundreds of Palestinian homes and agricultural land to create its so-called buffer zone where more recently Palestinian farmers and laborers have been shot while tending to their crops or scavenging for scrap metal. The United Nations Office of the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs says the area currently amasses nearly 35 percent of land inside the Gaza Strip, according to a recent report (“Between the fence and a hard place,” August 2010).

Hussein Abu Hussein, the Corries’ lawyer, told The Electronic Intifada that the family is determined to understand exactly what happened when Rachel was killed. “But the more that we hear the testimonies of the state, the more that the family and I discover that Israel continues to lie step by step,” Abu Hussein said.

“We get the impression that the investigation — from the beginning — was never thorough nor impartial, and was not done by experts,” he added.

On 5 September, the first defense witness — who at the time was a 20-year-old sergeant charged with leading internal investigations following the killing, known to the court as “Oded” — confirmed that a senior commander ordered the interruption of the investigations.

Earlier this year, Israeli daily Haaretz reported that it obtained classified military documents that revealed that Oded’s superior, Major General Doron Almog, who was head of Southern Command at the time of Rachel Corrie’s death, demanded that the investigations cease (“Did IDF general cut short probe into US activist Corrie’s death?” 26 March 2010).

In court, Oded stated that he did not question Maj. Almog’s intervention. He also testified that as an investigator, he never Palestinian eyewitnesses, including the paramedics and doctors who treated Corrie immediately after she was crushed.

In addition, the witness admitted that he did not request the army’s video or radio transmissions — which were shown to the court during his testimony — during his limited investigations.

“It was his first experience dealing with the case of a killing,” Abu Hussein said. “He had never been involved in any deep investigations. He did not visit the scene of the crime, and did not confiscate the tapes immediately. And when he finally acquired the tapes, he said he didn’t recognize the voices on the tape.”

In the military’s official transcript of the audio recordings taken after Rachel Corrie’s killing, there were several important details left out. Abu Hussein said that these omissions — clearly heard in the original audio recording — means that there is evidence of negligence.

“There were two Arabic speakers on the tape,” he told The Electronic Intifada. “The first voice asks, ‘Did you kill him?’ and the second voice replies ‘May God have mercy on his soul.’ So you have crucial evidence about the killing — and there is no response.”

Oded told Abu Hussein in court that he didn’t think those parts of the audio recordings were “important.”

The next day, the state attorneys brought two more witnesses to testify inside the courtroom, including a military training officer known as “Yossi,” who stated that “during war, there are no civilians.” Abu Hussein said that Yossi wrote a war protocol manual and asserted that the four-meter-high armored bulldozers with limited visibility should operate while civilians are present.

Abu Hussein remarked that when the trials resume in October and November, the Corrie family might have a chance to hear from the operator of the bulldozer who killed their daughter, but that it is not yet confirmed. “It would give them an opportunity to see the criminals who cooperated in this crime,” he said.

Editor’s note: this article originally erroneously reported that the Israeli military investigator Oded did not interview ISM activists. The article has been corrected.

Footage from MV Rachel Corrie smuggled out of Gaza –see video

Irish Central

Fiona Thompson, the Irish filmmaker and activist who was on board the Rachel Corrie when it was boarded by the Israeli Defense Forces, smuggled footage of the event back to Ireland.

The footage shows the final moments before the MV Rachel Corrie was boarded by about 35 armed soldiers. It shows the crew attempting to avoid contact with the Israeli Defense Forces and how they asserted that their ship was in international waters.

First mate, Derek Graham broadcasted their location on two different radio frequencies in an attempt to alert third parties of their location. They also relayed distress signals just before they were boarded 35 miles off the coast of Gaza.

Graham described how the incident played out. He said “I was in the wheelhouse by myself and everyone else was mid-ship. About 35 heavily armed guys came on board and set up weapons.

“They pointed them at me through the wheelhouse glass just to make sure I didn’t do anything.”

The soldiers placed him face down on the deck and bound his hands with a cable. He was placed at the back of the ship facing the wall for 45 minutes before he was brought to join the rest of the crew.

“They didn’t say too much. They weren’t the most pleasant of people but they didn’t harm anyone. That was my primary concern, to keep everyone onboard safe,” said Graham.

The entire crew was asked to sign confessions stating that they had entered Israeli waters. “We all refused it. That went away straight away,” he said.

In the film Israeli Defense Forces can be heard referring to the Irish aid ship as MV Linda, which was the ships old name. The MV Rachel Corrie had been renamed after an American activist who was killed in Gaza.

First mate, Derek Graham said “It was a complete outright refusal to acknowledge the name of the boat…They had their research done to know it was called the MV Linda before we renamed it.”

Graham also said that the crew was shown photographs of the crew and the MV Rachel Corrie in Dundalk before they departed at the beginning of May.

He said “There was a picture of Jenny [his wife] and when she saw it she knew it was taken in Dundalk because of the background. That is where we bought the ship and got it ready and got it loaded.

“It wasn’t startling because we had an idea that we were being watched,” said Graham.

“I have done this [humanitarian aid missions] for three years and I had them outside my house in Cyprus and following us to the shops.

“I don’t mind the ones that you can see – they are there for intimidation or just to let you know [you are being watched]. But it’s the ones you can’t see that I don’t like.”
Michael D Higgins, Labour’s spokesperson for foreign affairs, said these actions could potentially be a diplomatic incident. He said “If it was true, and taken in the context of all the other actions that have taken place [involving clandestine Israeli operations], it has to be part of the judgment of Micheál Martin in terms of what is done on the passport issue.

“It would be of the same category of action and impropriety as the use of Irish passports [by Israeli agents]. These are not the actions of countries with friendly diplomatic relations.”

Please TAKE ACTION and DEMAND that the United Nations launch an independent investigation into the Israeli attack against unarmed relief ships in the Freedom Flotilla. DEMAND that the international community stop simply condemning Israel’s brutal and illegal blockade of Gaza – and start doing something to end it!

For three days as they were held in captivity last week and unable to speak on their own behalf, Israel presented the massacre against civilian passengers on the Mavi Marmara as self-defense against a “lynching.” Now that the passengers are returning to their home nations, the global community is hearing a much different story, not just regarding the May 31st attack but also new allegations of brutality in the treatment of several passengers afterwards once they were in custody inside Israel. Free Gaza is posting these survivor testimonies on our website, and we will continue to provide updates as more passengers share their experiences.

As the passenger accounts trickle in, survivors portray the Israeli military as using excessive and disproportionate force against activists not just on the Mavi Marmara but the other passenger ships as well. Use of tasers, electric shocks, rubber bullets and live ammunition (both on board and from the helicopter hovering above) are documented. Multiple passengers tell eyewitness accounts of soldiers refusing to allow medical treatment of injured passengers, specific and focused targeting of journalists on board and beatings of passengers after their arrival in Israel, causing at least two passengers to need hospitalization.

“Keeping passengers held in captivity so that they could not share their perspective was a deliberate attempt by Israel to cover up what really happened on the Mavi Marmara that fateful night,” notes Free Gaza co-founder Greta Berlin. “They knew what the passengers would be recounting, but they hoped that by delaying the release of their testimony until days after the immediate incident, media coverage would be buried as backpage follow-up stories or dismissed purely as old news.” She adds.

In her testimony, Annette Groth, a German Parliamentarian who was a passenger on Mavi Marmawa validates that assertion saying “The scandal is that we have to fight the Israeli images only with words. The Israelis confiscated all the activists’ cameras, computers, and mobile phones.”

These accounts reveal an “alternative narrative” of the attack on the Freedom Flotilla that cannot be reconciled with the Israeli version. CONTACT Secretary General Ban Ki Moon today and DEMAND an independent investigation!

Testimony from passengers aboard the Freedom Flotilla

Haneen Zuabi
Member of Parliament, Israeli Knesset

“Israel had days to plan this military operation. They wanted many deaths to terrorise us and to send a message that no future aid convoys should try to break the siege of Gaza.”

Sarah Colborne
Director of campaigns and operations, PSC, United Kingdom

“I couldn’t even count the amount of ships that were in the water. It was literally bristling with ships, helicopters and gunfire. It was horrific, absolutely horrific. …Israeli forces handcuffed members of the activists’ medical team who were sent to help treat the injured. It was terrifying…If you talked they pointed a gun at you. …We wrote a sign in Hebrew saying, ‘SOS! Need medical assistance. People are dying. Urgent’ Hanin Zoabi, who’s a Knesset member, an Israeli Knesset member, took that sign to the front—to the back of the boat, where the soldiers were pointing at her. They ordered her to go back.”

Henning Mankell
Bestselling Swedish crime author

“It was an act of piracy. We were actually kidnapped. …On the ship I was on, they found one weapon: my razor. And they actually came up and showed it off, my razor, so you see what level this was at.”

Professor Norman Paech
Member of Parliament (ret.), Germany

“We had not prepared in any way to fight. We didn’t even consider it because we knew very well that we would have absolutely no chance against soldiers like this. …The Israeli government justifies the raid because they were attacked. This is absolutely not the case.”

Annette Groth
Member of Parliament, Germany

“It was like war. They had guns, taser weapons, some type of tear gas and other weaponry, compared to two-and-a-half wooden sticks we had between us. [For Israel] to talk of self-defence is ridiculous. …The scandal is that we have to fight the Israeli images only with words. The Israelis confiscated all the activists’ cameras, computers, and mobile phones.”

Iara Lee
Brazilian Filmmaker (based in San Francisco)

“(The attack) was a surprise, because it happened in the middle of the night, in the darkness, in international waters, because we knew there would be a confrontation but not in international waters. Their first tactic was to cut all of our satellite communications and then they attacked. All I witnessed first hand was the shooting. They came on board and started shooting at people. …We expected them to shoot people in the legs, to shoot in the air, just to scare people, but they were direct. Some of them shot in the passengers’ heads. Many people were murdered – it was unimaginable.”

“…as this attack started I was on the top deck and within just a few minutes there were live shots being fired from above the ship from above from where the helicopters were. The first shots that were fired were some sort of sound grenades. There was some tear gas that was fired as well as rubber coated steel bullets. They were fired initially and the live bullets came roughly about five minutes after that, after those initial shots were fired.

“There was definitely fire from the air because one of the people who was killed was clearly shot from above. He was…the bullet targeted him at the top of his head. There was also fire coming from the sea as well. Most of the fire initially from the sea was tear gas canisters and sound grenades. But then it became live fire. There is no doubt from what I saw that live ammunition was fired before any Israeli soldier was on deck.

“[From the top deck] you could almost see the soldiers pointing their guns down through some sort of hole or compartment at the bottom side of the helicopter, firing almost indiscriminately without even looking where they were firing and those bullets were definitely live bullets. There was a Knesset member who approached the Israeli soldiers saying we have injured, she was saying they have injured people, please come and take them. Yet the Israelis refused. Three hours later all three of those people that were injured ended up dying on the spot because no one came to take them.”
