Day 186: Aggression Continues as Details Emerge on Latest Gaza Ceasefire Proposal

 April 9, 2024

Palestinians walk through the destruction in Khan Younis.

Israeli occupation launched aggressive raids on several areas across the Gaza Strip central and southern areas on Tuesday, as details have emerged on the latest proposal on ceasefire.

Media reported that Israeli air raids were more aggressive on Tuesday, noting that they mainly concentrated in the central area, particularly on Deir Al-Balah.

In addition to Deir Al-Balah, strikes were also reported in Maghazi refugee camp, where Israeli warplanes bombed a council building and in Rafah, where quadcopters kept shooting in the eastern part of the southern city.

Meanwhile, in the city of Khan Younis, more bodies have been removed from under the rubble, some fully decomposed after being there for three or four months. About 80 bodies have been recovered so far.

Also on Tuesday, Israeli warplanes bombed two homes in Gaza City’s Zeitoun neighborhood, in northern Gaza Strip, leaving casualties.

The level of destruction in the eastern part of the city has made it unrecognizable, according to people who have checked on what remains of their homes.

Details on Ceasefire Proposal

Mediators presented a new ceasefire proposal to Hamas and the Israeli occupation that would include a six-week pause in fighting and a swap of 40 Hamas-held captives for at least 700 Palestinians imprisoned by the Zionist authorities.

The proposal was presented to delegations from Hamas and the Zionist entity during the latest round of negotiations in Cairo over the weekend, according to Egyptian officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, Al-Jazeera reported.

Hamas would be required to provide a list of the captives it will release, as well as a list of Palestinian prisoners whose freedom it seeks. The proposal also includes the return of “a significant number” of Palestinians to northern Gaza.

The proposal stipulates that ‘Israel’ gradually dismantle checkpoints it built on a new road that split the strip in half to prevent the return of Palestinians to the north.

For its part, Hamas has issued a press statement saying it was studying a proposal reached in Cairo despite concerns that Israel’s position in negotiations “remains stubborn”.

Earlier, Netanyahu has threatened that “there is a date” for the Israeli assault on Rafah where more than 1 million displaced Palestinians are sheltering.

In Gaza City’s al-Daraj neighborhood, “Israel” commits yet another massacre, killing 20 Palestinians in a brutal airstrike.

The Israeli occupation is continuing its aggression against the Gaza Strip for the 99th day in a row, launching raids on various areas, killing and injuring of dozens, most of whom are women and children.

Al Mayadeen‘s correspondent reported that Israeli military attacks in the recent hours have resulted in numerous casualties near Gaza City in the north and al-Nuseirat in the center.

Furthermore, our correspondent added that Israeli strikes targeted areas in Maghazi and Deir al-Balah, resulting in the killing and injury of several Palestinians.

The big picture

Gaza is experiencing another communications blackout, where the destruction in some sectors has exceeded 80%.

The lack of communication and infrastructure damage has hindered teams in their rescue and assistance efforts for citizens during the bombings. The Palestinian Red Crescent Society reported on several occasions a complete loss of communication, with its teams operating in Gaza, exacerbating the humanitarian challenges.

It is worth noting that “Israel” has been on trial for the past two days for its war crimes before the International Court of Justice. However, its killing rampage seems to show no sign of abating in Gaza.

Gaza’s Health Ministry reported, on Saturday, that the total number of martyrs in Gaza has increased to 23,843, while the number of wounded has exceeded 60,000.

Day 80: Sad Christmas in Palestine as ‘Israel’ Commits Horrible Massacre in Maghazi

December 25, 2023

Palestinian Christians are witnessing a somber Christmas in the West Bank city of Bethlehem amid the ongoing Israeli onslaught on Gaza.

More than 120 people have been martyred in Israeli air raids overnight in central Gaza, Al-Manar correspondent reported on Monday.

Strikes on central Gaza’s Maghazi refugee camp killed at least 90 people. Attacks on the Bureij refugee camp saw the number of casualties rise to more than 120.

Health Ministry spokesperson Ashraf al-Qudra said the death toll at the Maghazi refugee camp was likely to rise.

“What is happening at the Maghazi camp is a massacre that is being committed on a crowded residential square,” he said.

Bodies have been piling up at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital.

Dozens more are reported to be injured, and several houses have been destroyed in the attack. Families have been digging through the rubble in an attempt to find survivors.

The Bureij refugee camp has been also pounded overnight, Palestinian media reported.

The Israeli occupation continues to bombard the territory for a third month, killing more than 20,400 Palestinians since October 7 and displacing more than 80 percent of the 2.3 million people who live there.

Somber Christmas

Meanwhile, Bethlehem, the birthplace of Prophet Issa A.S. (Jesus Christ), marks somber Christmas as the Palestinian city decided to forego Christmas celebrations in solidarity with people in Gaza.

The decision to tone down the Christmas festivities amid the ongoing war was taken last month.

The normally bustling Bethlehem on Christmas Eve was compared to a ghost town, on Sunday (Dec 24) as festive lights and Christmas tree decorated the city’s Manger Square were missing and so were the thousands of tourists who gather each year to mark the holiday.

This year a Nativity scene in Manger Square showed a baby Jesus wrapped in a white shroud, reminiscent of the hundreds of children killed in the fighting in Gaza. The scene was also surrounded by barbed wire, the grey rubble in contrast to the joyous lights and bursts of color that normally fill the square during Christmas.

“This Christmas comes to Bethlehem in a different shape. Nowadays Bethlehem, as any other Palestinian city, is in mourning. We feel sad,” said town mayor Hanna Hanania, lighting a candle in Manger Square.

During a live streamed worship session in the Lutheran Christmas Church in Bethlehem, Reverend Dr. Munther Isaac gave a Christmas message criticizing those who are complicit in the Israeli aggression on Gaza.
