Hezbollah tents: Israeli deterrence decaying on the Northern front

The Israeli government’s dealing with the tents planted outside the Shebaa Farms has been hysterical as the political and military command fails to make a decisive move.

By Ali Halawi

The Israeli government has gone into a frenzy after the Lebanese Resistance, Hezbollah, planted reconnaissance tents in the Bistara Farm that borders the occupied Lebanese Shebaa Farms.

The move came after increased Israeli hostilities on Lebanese territories in which bulldozers were deployed on the outskirts of the Kfashouba hills to dig up trenches in order to push further into liberated Lebanese areas. This marked yet another Israeli provocation to Lebanon’s territorial integrity entrenching on the properties and the lives of Southerners.

Continuous provocations come in line with Israeli attempts to enforce and solidify its presence in occupied Lebanese territories, which hold notable economic, military, and strategic value. This piece will highlight the importance of the occupied Shebaa farms as a fortress to the occupied Syrian Golan heights and the Syrian and Palestinian interior.

History of Shebaa Farms and Bistara

The Shebaa and Bistara Farms belong to a pivotal intersection point between various topographies.  Britain and France occupied these areas after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, creating political entities in which they would exert their colonial subjugation along arbitrarily drawn lines. These newly formed states would take into account solely their economic and military interests while disregarding historical roots, topographies, and most importantly the societies which inhabited these areas.

The Shebaa Farms are located at the South Eastern borders of the Lebanese territories, placed at an intersection between the Syrian Golan Heights and the Jabal Aamel; a mountainous range that extends from Lebanon into Palestine.

“Shebaa” in Shebaa Farms corresponds to the name of the village from which Lebanese villagers descended as they where partook in a journey to develop the strip of land for agricultural purposes. In 1967, “Israel” unilaterally annexed the Golan Heights and the Shebaa farms, pushing its dwellers into the Bistara village. Those people followed their peasant tradition and developed the Bistara to fit their agricultural purposes. It is important to note that the Israeli annexation of these territories has not been recognized by any country or international organization other than the United States, which did so under the Trump administration.

Map showing occupied Shebaa farms

Bistara was later occupied when “Israel” invaded Lebanon in 1982 and was eventually liberated in 2000. Hezbollah planted the reconnaissance tents in the Bsitara village in response to excavation work carried out by Israeli bulldozers that attempted to run over a villager in the area as an apparent direct reaction.

The man in question is Ismail Nasser, a Lebanese villager who hails from Shebaa, who confronted the armored bulldozer’s operator standing in front of the machine, as he risked his life to halt the advancing vehicle.

Nasser’s willingness to give up his life to halt the expansive Israeli plans in southern Lebanon comes in line with the history and the tradition of sacrifice which has characterized the Resistance in the South.

The encroachment of the IOF past the blue line is not a rare occurrence. A Southerner could easily name countless trespasses committed by the IOF, including the seizure of cattle and the recurrent daily breaches by the Israeli Air Force of Lebanon’s airspace.

To elaborate, the blue line was a temporary line of withdrawal established by the United Nations to determine whether “Israel” had fully withdrawn from Lebanon or not. Neither Lebanon as a State nor the Israeli government recognizes the line in legal matters, however, it holds substantial value when assessing the presence of Israeli troops since it marks the level of withdrawal of the IOF in 2000.

A deterred expansive colonial project

In the town of Al-Ghajar, which “Israel” occupies, the IOF has built fortifications to enclose the town, an action which has been repeated all over the Palestine-Lebanon border. This comes as the expansive colonial project, that is “Israel”, deals with a bitter reality that the early Zionists did not imagine: the supremacy of native Resistance over parasitic colonizers.

The victories of the Lebanese Resistance have also been translated in Gaza and the West Bank where successive Israeli governments have chosen to withdraw and entrench themselves in territories occupied in 1948 and 1967 rather than impose direct occupation over natives. long trenches, military bases, concrete walls, and fences have been built all around the West Bank, Gaza, and Southern Lebanon to ensure the security of the so-called “democratic” Israeli society.

A photo published of Lebanese resistance tents photographed by an Israeli drone (Israeli media)

This week’s frenzy over the renaissance tents shows in key the fragility of Israeli society, especially in the settlements of northern Palestine, and also highlights the weaknesses of the Israeli military. As stated in previous articles, the Israeli military can no longer impose de facto ground control over the rebellious societies it seeks to tame. This was characterized by its failure to achieve security objectives in Jenin on June 3, as a 2-day long operation ended in withdrawal, costing the Israeli military at least one confirmed death.

“Israel” threatened through international mediators and third parties that it would remove the two tents by force, intensifying its warnings this week. However, the tents, which were put up on the outskirts of the village, which “Israel” claims to be part of “its territory”, remain in their place to this day. This has opened up a great opportunity to shift the balance of power towards the Resistance, as “Israel” fails to regain control over the area which it occupies. Although marginal to the remaining volume of occupied territories, Israeli failure to deal with the tents will mark a new era in its rules of engagement with the Resistance.

Agricultural heaven

In the early stages of the colonization of Palestine, post World War I, a false picture was drawn in the minds of European Jews on the area that they would eventually occupy to form the first colonial Jewish political entity. Religious texts that date back thousands of years described Palestine as a part of a fertile crescent; a land which could easily be cultivated, reaping large profits for those who settle in it. In reality, Palestine’s Al-Naqab desert stretches to around 60% of Palestinian land, as water sources are hard to come by.

Al-Jalil, northern Palestine, has become an essential area for “Israel” to showcase its high-tech agriculture and food companies. This valley hosts nutrient-rich soil and sufficient water resources has received increased interest from the Israeli political command, which has built on years of subsidies and tax cuts to its agricultural sectors, as the government seeks to greenwash its occupation of Arab land under the transformation of the desert into a garden, a recurrent false pretext in almost all colonial narratives.

The area’s economic importance is coupled with military disadvantage, as the valley facilitates the advancement of liberating troops into the heart of the colonial project. It is also a rare entry route in the Israeli northern sector which is characterized by mountainous regions.

The Shebaa farms offer the gateway into the valley since they are located at a higher altitude than Al-Houla plain which leads into Al-Jalil. Thus, they overlook the area allowing for a wider and clearer view of the settlements and Israeli positions below. This explains, from a military perspective, why the IOF stopped its withdrawal at this geographical location.

In February 2011, the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah, warned the Israeli command that if it embarks on another war on Lebanon, Hezbollah will liberate occupied territories in the Al-Jalil. Since then the possibility of such a threat actualizing has increased as the Lebanese Resistance group amassed expertise, technology, and weapons over the years. Its experience in Syria and the transformation of rockets into high-precision missiles as well as work done in the field of recon and attack drones, do threaten the struggling Israeli military command and personnel.

Such a scenario has been contemplated by various Israeli experts, especially after the IOF inability to decisively deal with the reconnaissance tents.

The Israeli military has been extremely alert and obsessive, treading with extreme caution in fear of a blunder. This describes exactly how its political and military command deals with the tents; in fear.

Most importantly this feeling has been transferred to the settlers that occupy northern Palestine. They now feel that their military is unable to protect them. Taking into account that the security of settlers is essential to the success of a long-term colonial project, the current rules of engagement established by the continued presence of reconnaissance tents with no military action taken against them have collapsed any security guarantees that northern settlers have. In turn, this puts into question the viability of successful investment or a peaceful life in Al-Jalil.

“Israel’s” deterrence on the northern front is subject to collapse as ordinary farmers stop its armored vehicles from advancing, villagers forcibly halt excavation work, and “lone wolves” infiltrate deep into the Meggido intersection and carry out operations there. The indecisiveness of its military command and its inability to risk confrontation with Hezbollah during times of internal turbulence will transform the rules of engagement on the northern front, as has been done since 2000 in Gaza and the West Bank city of Jenin.

Israeli Arsenal Fails in Face of Jenin’s Meager Capabilities Multiplied by High-spirited Resistance

The Israeli deterrence power is really at stake! This is the conclusion that can be drawn in light of the outcomes of the new battle between the Zionist occupation forces and the Palestinian resistance in Jenin City and its camp.

This image was portrayed over two days of fierce clashes between the Palestinian fighters and the enemy’s troops who invaded the West Bank City on Monday in order to eradicate the resistance power.

However, the high-spirited resistance prevented the monstrous enemy from reaching the central part of Jenin and its camp, expelling its occupation troops out of the steadfast city.

Zionist PM Benjamin Netanyahu and the chief of staff Herzi Halevi indicated that there would be more attacks on Jenin, indirectly acknowledging the failure of this operation which was not even given a nickname for the Zionist fear of its fruitlessness.

The Islamic Jihad commander Dawood Shehab stressed that the Palestinian resistance is always capable of defeating the Zionist enemy, underlining the importance of the cooperation among all the states and groups of the axis of resistance in the overall confrontation with the Zionist enemy.

The Lebanese expert on the Zionist affairs, Dr. Abbas Esmail, told Al-Manar TV that the Zionist failure in Jenin was caused by the lack of a strategic framework within which the Israeli officials move.

The Palestinian writer, Tayseer Al-Khatib indicated that Jenin battle would unify all the Palestinians against the “peace process” in favor of the resistance path, knowing that some Zionist circles called for reinforcing the Palestinian authority in order to face the resistance fighters.

All military doctrines agree that lack of spirit nullifies all the military capabilities. This notion has been personified by the Zionist occupation army which has lost numerous battles for the absence of the moral incentives.

Briefly, the Zionist occupation forces withdrew from Jenin after a two-day battle with the courageous Palestinian fighters who resorted to locally-made explosives in addition to traditional rifles in order to repel the Israeli attack.

Former chief of Zionist military intelligence Amos Yadlin warned the Israeli command against any involvement in an all-out battle with the axis of resistance on various fronts simultaneously. This consideration has also contributed to the humiliating failure of the recent Israeli invasion of Jenin.

In light of the Palestinian martyrdom attack in Tel Aviv carried out during the Zionist aggression on Jenin, the Zionist analysts stressed that the operation in Jenin failed to achieve its goals, adding that the Palestinian resistance will reshuffle its cards and become stronger.

Ozi Raby, Arab affairs expert, indicated that Jenin operation shows the gap between the strategy and tactics used by the Israeli command, adding that the negative effects of such operations are much more than the positive ones.

Palestinian Factions React to the “Israeli” Aggression on Jenin

July 3, 2023

Translated by Al-Ahed News, Live Coverage

The Palestinian Resistance faction react to the apartheid “Israeli” entity’s large-scale air attacks on the Jenin refugee camp in the northern part of the West Bank, which caused the martyrdom of nine Palestinians and wounded 50 others.

The Palestinian Islamic Jihad’s [PIJ] al-Quds Brigades [AQB] – Jenin Battalion said, “In response to the ongoing aggression and as part of the Fury of Jenin battle, our Mujahideen [fighters] carried out several qualitative strikes against the [‘Israeli’] occupation forces and their vehicles since the morning.”

“Our Mujahideen [fighters] were able to detonate a number of Tariq-1 explosive devices, which were used for the first time, in an armored jeep this morning, causing it to be disabled and catch fire, killing and injuring those inside it,” the group added.

The group further said its fighters are confronting the “Israeli” Occupation Forces [IOF] troops during their attempt to advance by targeting them with heavy barrages.

“Despite the air strikes, our Mujahideen [fighters] managed to thwart the attempt of the occupying forces to advance after engaging in violent clashes with them,” the al-Quds Brigades [AQB] – Jenin Battalion said.

For its part, the Hamas resistance movement’s military wing the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades [IQB] in the Jenin camp said, “Our Mujahideen [fighters] from all the Palestinian factions are facing the [‘Israeli’] occupation army in the alleys of Jenin camp, inflicting direct casualties on them.”

“We announce that a number of the occupation soldiers fell into an elaborate and coordinated ambush between the military arms in the camp while they were trying to advance through one of the houses,” the group went on to say.

The al-Qassam Brigades added, “We challenge the occupation army to announce its confirmed losses – the dead and the injured.

It announced that “The Mujahideen in Jenin camp shot down two drones since the beginning of the aggression.”

“We affirm that all options are open to our Mujahideen [fighters] to respond to the occupation’s encroachment and curb its aggression against Jenin,” the al-Qassam Brigades said.

However, the group warned the “Israelis”, “We tell our enemy that: you will not leave Jenin as you entered it.”

The Mujahideen Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian Mujahideen Movement, issued a brief statement on the ongoing situation in Jenin.

“Our mujahideen [fighters] are fighting bravely the Battle of Jenin alongside the al-Quds Brigades, the al-Qassam Brigades, the al-Aqsa Brigades and the resistance factions to confront this brutal Zionist aggression against Jenin,” the group said in their statement.

It added, “We affirm that we will continue in this battle until this enemy withdraws disgracefully; it will not undermine the determination of our Resistance and our people.”

Moreover, the Joint Chamber of Palestinian Resistance Factions issued a statement, mourning the martyrdom of Palestinian freedom fighters in the occupied refugee camp of Jenin.

“The citizens of Jenin have displayed unwavering resilience in the face of the brutal ‘Israeli’ occupation forces, making great sacrifices for their cause,” the statement read.

“Since late Sunday night, the ‘Israeli’ Occupation Forces [IOF] have been launching a full-scale offensive against the densely populated camp in a failed attempt to crush the Palestinian resistance in the occupied West Bank,” the statement added.

The statement of the Joint Chamber of Palestinian Resistance Factions continued, “In response to this vicious aggression, the Joint Chamber of Palestinian Resistance Factions released the following statement:

First: We salute the Palestinian freedom fighters in occupied Jenin who have been steadfastly standing against the hideousness of the ‘Israeli’ occupation. We also salute the Palestinian people who embrace and safeguard the resistance fighters.

Second: The chamber is in an ongoing session to closely monitor the barbaric aggression on Jenin. The Palestinian resistance will not allow the occupation forces to encroach upon the people of Jenin and single them out.

Third: The continuation of the aggression against Jenin and the behavior of the occupation forces will determine the nature of the resistance’s response.

Fourth: We call upon the Palestinian people in the occupied West Bank and the neighboring cities of Jenin to support occupied Jenin and confront the ‘Israeli’ occupation forces. We urge the resistance fighters in all arenas to remain prepared to respond to the brutal aggression should it persist.

Jenin Fury carving new rules of engagement, deterrence in WB: Analysis

3 Jul 2023

Source: Al Mayadeen English

By Ali Halawi

The Battle of the Fury of Jenin has underlined the fragility of the Israeli forces, specifically its soldiers and command, who are unable to achieve their government’s security objectives.

On June 20, Palestinian Resistance fighters led by the Al-Quds Brigades – Jenin Battalion executed thoroughly planned ambushes on Israeli forces who were raiding the camp, thwarting their mission and dealing several casualties on the intruding troops.

The Israeli response marked the first use of Israeli air force capabilities in the West Bank since the second Intifada, as the army sent out Apache helicopters to secure the escape of besieged forces in the camp who came under the heavy fire of fighters.

Monday’s military campaign on Jenin and the Jenin refugee camp comes as the Israeli occupation forces attempt to reconstruct its deterrence capabilities in the occupied West Bank, which has experienced a substantial surge in the Resistance’s organization, popularity, and capabilities.

The Battle of the Fury of Jenin will test the Resistance’s ability to shift the deterrence equation in their favor against the floundering Israeli ground troops and command as a journey similar to that of the freed Gaza Strip begins to materialize.

Attack drones lead the aggression

In what the Israelis dubbed “Operation Garden and Home” the Israeli forces have sent out hundreds of armored vehicles carrying ground troops as well as bulldozers in their invasion of Jenin.

However, the occupation forces’ experience in June has necessitated that strike and surveillance drones be heavily deployed in its aggression on the northern West Bank city and its refugee camp. This shows that Israeli ground troops are no longer able, by themselves, to establish supremacy in Jenin which has been at the forefront of the phenomenon of Resistance in the West Bank.

After reports showed that Netanyahu and Galant have greenlit a major campaign in the West Bank on Sunday night, locals reported on the presence of a large number of drones and quadcopters in Jenin and its vicinity, as the Israeli forces collected information and intel before launching their attack.

At around 10:20 AM on Sunday night, local sources in Jenin reported heavy activity of Israeli drones over the city, as fear grew over the possibility of a large campaign grew. At 1:13 AM on Monday, the first explosion was reported in the city followed by a series of explosions signaling in armored vehicles which invaded Jenin a few minutes after. Since then, Resistance fighters have continued to confront intruding forces, executing multiple ambushes that targeted Israeli convoys across the camp.

Resistance fighters from the Al-Quds Brigades, Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, and the Al-Qassam Brigades announced on different instances they were able to directly target Israeli forces, as reports and photo evidence showed a Black Hawk helicopter transferring IOF casualties from the battlefield.

Hyper-dependency on Technology

A noticeable trend could be highlighted when examining the Israeli tactics as it seeks to secure its security goals in Palestine.

That is its hyper-dependency on technology after its attempts to put an end to the progression of the Resistance capabilities has led to successive failures, highlighted by the constant growth of the Resistance, whether as an idea that Palestinians relate to and support or simply on the military level.

“Israel” has been able to achieve a bulk of its security goals in the West Bank since the second Intifada due to a number of factors which include active collaboration with parties inside the West Bank through the so-called security coordination and ill-preparedness of Resistance groups.

The diligent work undertaken by Palestinian factions headed by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, who have created the necessary infrastructure and commands, capitalizing on the sentiments of Palestinian youth who seek to free themselves from the bitterness of a reality which they were born into, has led to the expansion of the Resistance’s capabilities and operations in the occupied territories.

Parallels could be drawn between Israeli tactics in Gaza and those used in the West Bank today.

Since January 2009, the Israeli forces have not been successful in invading Gaza Strip with ground units after a campaign was launched by the government to end the “indiscriminate” rocket fire from the Strip towards occupied territories. Instead “Israel” has depended heavily on the use of air raids and precise drone strikes in its aggression on the Strip.

This scenario was largely due to heavy losses suffered in the ranks of the elite Golani Brigade when Israeli occupation attempted a ground invasion on the Strip, a possibility which could repeat itself as the Resistance has only gained more expertise and technologies which would allow it to recreate such an event if necessary.

The Israeli military and political command are well aware of the situation, thus they have depended heavily on air raids and strikes in every battle with the Palestinian Resistance in Gaza since then.

Its bombing campaigns in Gaza have proven next to be useless in the long run, as the occupation has been unable to halt the progression of the Resistance’s military capabilities nor has it been able to severely damage its intricate and well-developed infrastructure, two failed objectives that were clearly highlighted in the aftermath of the May 2021 battle of Seif Al-Quds.

This phenomenon begs further examination into the structure of the Israeli forces, the morale of its troops, as well as the Zionist social fabric as a whole, which will be studied in upcoming reports.

The possibility of a multifront war prevents genocide

Back to the focus of this analysis, the military campaign on Jenin, “Israel” has been forced to act in accordance fo red lines which the Axis of Resistance over the past 20 years has cemented in their deterrence against the IOF.

In 2002, the IOF embarked on a large-scale attack on the Jenin refugee camp, as it massacred the residents of the city. The repetition of such a scenario in which the Israeli forces indiscriminately slaughter Palestinians in the West Bank will come at a high price for “Israel”. Wide condemnations and UN resolutions have historically failed to halt the massacring of the land’s indigenous people by an occupying force, as exemplified in 2002.

Today, such an endeavor would open up a Pandora’s Box for the Israeli command which does not want to and cannot deal with an event in which rockets bombard its positions from Syria, Gaza, and Lebanon, especially amid the ongoing escalation in the north and the boiling internal political and social situation within the colonial entity.

Its leadership is well aware of this situation, which is why “Israel” limits its operations to small-scale and quick attacks, as it seeks to isolate Resistance factions and limit their cooperation in the field.

A destructive bombing of the camp, which is being speculated as this piece is being written, means that the occupation has been unable to reach its security goals in this operation and has chosen to commit another atrocity marking another failure of its security and military strategies.

‘Israel’ Faces Major Challenges in Jenin as Resistance Heroically Confronts Aggression

 July 3, 2023

Israeli occupation army is meeting fierce resistance and ‘major challenges’ in Jenin during that wide-scale operation it waged in the West Bank city overnight on Sunday.

The brutal aggression has witnessed so far, the deployment of warplanes, drones, and a large number of troops including special forces and commandos.

Jenin Battalion of the Islamic Jihad resistance movement announced it fighters were engaged in fierce clashes with occupation forces at the entrances and on several fronts across Jenin and its refugee camp.

Rambam Hospital admitted the death of the two Israeli soldiers and the injury of three participants in the clashes with the resistance fighters in Jenin.

The resistance group said it disabled and downed two Israeli drones over the city, and inflicted confirmed losses upon occupation troops by targeting their armored vehicles with fire and explosive devices.

“Tarek-1 explosive device has been used for first time, inflicting confirmed losses upon the occupation troops.”

Palestinian sources reported that Israeli helicopters were spotted transferring injured Israeli soldiers from Jenin to Afula hospital in occupied territories.

For its part, Al-Qassam Brigades announced conducting a joint ambush with other resistance group, in which an Israeli armored vehicle was targeted, injuring or killing a number of occupation soldiers.

Israeli Walla News said that Israeli special forces were facing major challenges in Jenin as fighters are deployed to buildings’ roofs and explosive devices are excessively planted in streets.

Strikes in Jenin

Al-Manar correspondent in the West Bank Deeb Hourani reported dozens of strikes on the refugee camp and the city of Jenin, noting that explosive-laden Israeli drones also took part in the strikes along with the warplanes.

The strikes hit several targets including residential areas across the city and the refugee camp, our correspondent added.

Palestinian Health Ministry announced that nine Palestinians were martyred, adding that dozens of others were wounded in the Israeli aggression.

Shortly after the aggression was launched, Israeli occupation military said it was conducting an “extensive counterterrorism effort throughout the city and in the Jenin refugee camp.” In a joint statement, the occupation army and Shin Bet claimed they targeted “a joint headquarters used by the Palestinian factions in Jenin as an observation post, a gathering place for Palestinian fighters, a storage site for weapons and explosives and a contact and communication center for operative”.

Israeli media noted that air defense systems have been deployed across the Zionist entity, especially in the south, with several media outlets, including i24 NEWS reporting that the occupation army “is preparing for rocket fire from Gaza.

Electricity went out in Jenin refugee camp after an air strike, Palestinian media said, adding that several outages of internet was also reported. Palestinian media also reported that local residents burned tires in the entrance to Jenin refugee camp in order to hinder the advance of the occupation forces.

Zionist occupation forces launched two missiles at residential building and opened fire at Ibn Sina hospital in Jenin, according to media reports.

Palestinian Resistance ‘Fully Ready’

Jenin Battalion earlier voiced full readiness to confront the Israeli aggression.

“Criminal (Benjamin) Netanyahu shall know that we have been fully prepared for this day,” the resistance group in Jenin said, referring to the Israeli premier.

An hour earlier, the Islamic Jihad said “the Israeli occupation bears full responsibility for repercussions of the aggression in Jenin,” stressing that the resistance will confront the offensive by all means and that “all options are on table.”

“Aggression on Jenin won’t achieve its goals, Jenin will remain title of steadfastness,” the Islamic Jihad said in a statement.

The group’s spokesman Daoud Shehab warned that “If the aggression in Jenin is not over, retaliation options will be open and inclusive.”

For its part, Hamas resistance movement saluted Palestinian fighters confronting the aggression in Jenin city and refugee camp, stressing that the operation in Jenin is futile.

“Throughout years Jenin has proved that it is unbreakable,” Hamas said in a statement, carried by Al-Manar.

The group’s politburo chief Ismail Haniyeh called on Palestinian people across the West Bank to stand by the resistance in Jenin in order to foil the Israeli scheme.

Fatah spokesman in Gaza Monzer Hayek said that Netanyahu personally oversees the military operation in Jenin, noting that the Israeli PM’s aim behind the aggression is to divert attention from the Israeli political disagreements over the judicial overhaul.

Zionist Circles

The Israeli analysts and media outlets indicated warned that the ongoing attack on Jenin may not lead to any outcome, adding that it may involve ‘Israel’ in an all-out confrontation with the entire axis of resistance.

Amos Yadlin, former military intelligence chief, said that Hezbollah and Hamas hope that an all-out battle erupts, adding that the Zionists must focus on the northern front.

Destroying Eastern Ukraine to Save It

JUNE 30, 2023

BY MATTHEW HOH

I speak of peace, therefore, as the necessary rational end of rational men.

~PresidentJohn F. Kennedy, American University, June 10, 1963

Following an essay I published earlier this month and the letter the Eisenhower Media Network ran in The New York Times in May, I have heard forceful and passionate protests that Russia had no other option but to invade Ukraine in February 2022. Frankly, I find quite bewildering and concerning this intense insistence that the only option available to Russia was to launch a cross-border invasion, conduct a deliberate occupation of a sovereign country, and commit a clear violation of the Nuremberg Principles and international law.

So far, pre-emptive invasion and occupation have resulted in the deaths and wounding of hundreds of thousands; created over 10 million internal and external refugees, including roughly 3 million into Russia; initiated massive and lasting environmental destruction; and threatened a nuclear world war through dangerous escalation. The execution of this lone and, so by extension, necessary option, as described by its apologists, has achieved limited territorial gains while strengthening NATO. Without a negotiated political settlement, the February 2022 choice of invasion and prolonged war offers continued destabilizing and ruinous violence, accompanied by the ever-present risk of apocalyptic escalation and the emergence of Pandora’s Box opportunities, e.g., a mercenary army on the road to Moscow this past weekend.

While currently successfully achieving its deliberately limited territorial goals, Russia has set forth long-term strategic and political events that undermine its objectives. NATO cohesion and public support are at a point greater than at any time since 1991, NATO armies are modernizing and being funded at historic post-Cold War highs, and NATO membership has expanded along Russia’s 800-mile-long Finnish borders (Swedish and Finnish public support for NATO membership, as has overall Ukrainian public support for NATO membership, has increased markedly since February 2022). Importantly, the US missile bases in Poland and Romania, which Russia understandably sees as a legitimate threat, were never going to be affected by an invasion and occupation of Eastern Ukraine. Even if it were to end tomorrow, the invasion and occupation have now given those US missile bases, along with all of NATO, a raison d’etre that will last at least a generation.

This invasion and occupation have strengthened the position of the right-wing, the nationalists, and the hard-liners in the Ukrainian government and society, including Nazi elements. In the coming years, NATO will build out Ukraine to its standard to include long-range attack aircraft and missiles and eventually ships that can contest Russia in the Black Sea. This arming will occur whether or not Ukraine becomes a formal NATO member. As mentioned, it will give a reason for being to NATO, and it won’t just be any reason; instead, it will become a form of holy obligation. If this horrible war ends, and Russia maintains the territory it has seized, re-taking that territory will become an obsession of religious intensity, a purpose-affirming crusade for many in NATO.

Looking forward, I don’t believe a Russian victory over Ukraine, akin to a World War II-style subjugation, is possible. I don’t think that was ever their goal, and it was never possible. As stated by the Russians, their goals were control of eastern Ukraine, including establishing a corridor to Crimea, a demilitarization of Ukraine through the destruction of the Ukrainian military, and de-Nazification.

Regarding the first goal, the Russians may be able to defend what land they have taken, maintain a stalemate, and perhaps re-take and take incremental territory after this current Ukrainian offensive. However, the Russians, even with their reserve forces, the potential for conscription and further mobilization, and large military-industrial capacity (severely underestimated by the US and NATO before the war and still unrecognized or dismissed by many US and NATO pro-war fabulists) don’t have the ability to march on and conquer Kyiv, nor should they want to. An occupation of hostile central and western Ukraine would be a nightmare akin to the US occupations of Afghanistan and Iraq.

The second goal, the destruction of the Ukrainian military, has not been met in any permanent sense because of the commitment of the US and NATO to build Ukraine into a de-facto NATO army. Yes, tens of thousands of dead and wounded Ukrainian soldiers and thousands of pieces of wrecked machinery and vehicles are the direct consequence of the violence of the Russian Armed Forces and their mercenaries. Ukraine has its mobilization and training troubles, and the stocks from which the West has provided Ukraine weapons, ammunition, and equipment are running low. The ability of the Ukrainian military to forcibly remove Russia back to its February 2022 borders is exceedingly doubtful. Only the introduction of a US and NATO army of hundreds of thousands would be able to accomplish such a task – thankfully there does not appear political will for such an expedition.

This current offensive by Ukraine could lead to a depletion of men, units, equipment, and ammunition that could cause a collapse the Russians could exploit; such over-extending, exhausting and calamitous offensives have led to defeat throughout warfare. But I don’t believe such an event is likely, because of both the real limitations of the Russian army and the Kremlin’s strategic and political desires. I also don’t believe the Ukrainian offensive will meet its objectives. There will be nothing other than stalemate, which will resemble the second half of the Korean War with its trench warfare and limited offensives. Based upon Russian performance in their 2023 winter offensive, the heavy use of minefields and the effective use of drones, the challenges of extending logistics and lines of communication deeper into Ukraine, and the ugly reality of occupying Central and Western Ukraine, the Russians will likely continue to consolidate and strengthen their position in Eastern Ukraine. Yes, both sides may launch over-hyped offensives in the months and years to come if there is no ceasefire and negotiated political settlement. Still, I don’t believe either side can ever achieve military victory, which, effectively, is what the goal of demilitarization is. The best the Russians can do is to declare a triumph over what they have already seized and destroyed.

The third goal, de-Nazification, has previously been addressed with the political forces in Ukraine that Russia describes, correctly to a degree, as Nazis, strengthened due to Russia’s invasion.

Of the three Russian goals of this invasion, the first, limited territorial conquest/liberation (depending on your partisanship), has been arguably successful. While the second goal, the demilitarization of Ukraine, has become a war of attrition with a sacred long-term US and NATO commitment to fully arm Ukraine. The third goal, de-Nazification, has failed at the strategic and political levels.

While defeat on the battlefield is not likely for Russia, neither is victory. It has already been mentioned, but it bears mentioning again foreign wars almost always have a domestic political cost. Russia’s economic, monetary, and financial success over the last year has been remarkable, and its increased ties to other nations, such as becoming the leading fossil fuel exporter to China and India, the first and third biggest economies in the world, is extremely significant. The rejection by dozens of nations of US demands to get in line with its Russia policy is equally important. However, in its essence, war is about being able to waste more than your enemy.

Russia can point to support from many nations, including China and India, yet that support is nowhere near as concrete, whole, and dependable as US and NATO support for Ukraine. With its dollar, the world’s reserve currency, the US can fund this war for as long as there is political will in the US. The dollar’s primacy may now be under assault, but that assault is nascent, and although replacing the post-World War II Bretton Woods monetary system is worthy and needed, such an international replacement for the dollar won’t come soon enough to assist Russia against Ukraine. The great waste of the war in Ukraine will eventually affect Russia politically, economically, materially and spiritually. I can’t finely predict how it will do so, other than knowing the longer the war goes on, the more the war will require greater waste. This war is not fundamentally any different from other wars and the consequences will likely be the same.

Such is how I view the accomplishments of Russia pursuing its supposed only option in February 2022.

To the question of other options, there were many options, economic and diplomatic, available to Russia in February 2022. An energy embargo on Western Europe would have been an obvious possibility. Closing the borders and limiting trade with Ukraine was another choice. If you desire something more historical and theatrical, a naval blockade of Ukraine was imaginable.* Efforts to subvert American economic and monetary hegemony and create alternate trading mechanisms through partnerships with other nations were options. As discussed, we are seeing those efforts play out now.

Meanwhile, diplomatic measures would have sustained the world’s attention and built international support for Moscow. International support for multi-polarization efforts and de-dollarization and the growth of organizations like BRICS and SCO is in large part built upon the bullying, predation, and mendacity of the US and its Collective West partners. Continuing to demonstrate US and NATO misdeeds and bad faith, such as failing to uphold the Minsk II Accords, while not launching an illegal pre-emptive war with its inevitable brutality and war crimes, would have continued that work while laying claim to moral authority.

There are readers now scoffing at such diplomatic options; however, such opportunities were available before the invasion. I say this based not on my assumptions and observations but on what Putin’s advisors said. On February 21, 2022, in a televised meeting, several senior members of Putin’s government, including Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, the former President and Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, the current Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, and the head of the foreign spy service Sergey Naryshkin advanced the idea of diplomatic efforts rather than war, particularly recognizing Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts as sovereign entities (similar to the US and NATO recognition of Kosovo). Among other comments offered during the meeting, Lavrov stated talks were progressing with the West, and Medvedev predicted tensions with the West would subside. Based on that televised meeting days before the invasion, it appears that senior members of the Russian government accepted that there were options other than invasion and occupation.

The reality is Russia had a whole range of alternatives, from doing nothing to initiating a full-scale nuclear war. In the aftermath of Russia’s invasion, David Swanson provided 30 such examples of what Russia could have done otherwise.

The pre-emptive invasion was not only their only option, it also wasn’t their best option. Success in Ukraine to Russia comes as ownership of a demolished, poisoned, and evacuated portion of Eastern Ukraine, an expensive occupation and war of attrition that history tells us will ultimately have a domestic political cost, and a strengthened and rejuvenated NATO. Such a foreign enemy may be politically beneficial to Putin just as Putin and Russia are politically beneficial as bogeymen to the US and NATO. However, the events this past weekend with the Wagner mercenary forces are problematic for Moscow, to put it modestly, and demonstrate quite well how Frankenstein monsters are common elements in modern war. All of these complications, consequences, and inconveniences of war metastasize over time, and while the war might seem manageable now, in 6, 12, or 24 months, today’s current state of the war may appear as halcyon memories of yesterday to Moscow.

I understand there is a difference between available, desired, and politically possible options. I once shared an interview on Al-Jazeera with a former Taliban minister who spoke quite eloquently and poignantly on his failure to make his fellow Taliban leaders understand that George W. Bush had very few political options following the 9/11 attacks. Even if such political limitations were the case, President Bush had other options in the weeks and months after the 9/11 attacks. The Bush White House again had other options in 2003 but chose invasion and occupation, just as the Obama White House in 2009 chose escalation in Afghanistan. In both cases, Presidents Bush and Obama claimed they had no other option than military aggression. They used the same arguments against Bashar Assad and Muammar Gaddafi.

This is what is troubling about the argument that Russia had no other options: it validates the Bush, Obama and Trump wars against Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and Syria. Likewise, it allows the Saudis to say there was no other option than to bomb and blockade Yemen and slaughter and starve 400,000, and it lets the Israelis say that they had no other choice than to send Apache gunships into Jenin this past week. I think it is fair to guarantee that if, or maybe when, the US and Israel attack Iran, a no other options argument will be provided.

We can have a peaceful future by standing with international law and against all cross-border wars of aggression. Violations of this basic framework of sovereignty and international affairs wreck any chance of advancement in relations and deeply damage the institutions and structures available to us and future generations. If we have any chance at mitigating climate change, advancing human rights, ending occupations, and dismantling our nuclear doomsday machines, it must come through solid international institutions, through trust, cooperation and diplomacy, and  through adherence to international law.

No matter how big the white hats we think we wear, regardless of which side we support, the reality is that war is a force outside of human control, one that will make our righteousness and morality an agent of its destruction. The war in Ukraine is not a simple war of good vs evil. The costs of this war will far outweigh any offered rationales, righteous Manichean arguments or apologies made by either side. We still are unaware of the coming consequences of this war, just as in 1915, the idea of war for another three years, the loss of empires, the Spanish Flu, or a second world war were unimaginable.

Whoever “wins” in eastern Ukraine will win a land depopulated and bastioned by destroyed infrastructure. This land will be polluted for generations by the military toxins of war and ridden with land mines and unexploded ordnance. Very likely, Ukrainian mothers will suffer the same as Iraqi, Afghan, and SE Asian mothers by giving birth for generations to dead, deformed, and sick children due to the undying toxic legacies of modern war. Children and their families, decades from now, will be punished for this madness in Ukraine, just as children and their families continue to be punished throughout “post-conflict” countries. Years from now, as they still die and suffer, will you tell them there was no other option?

The Russian people currently support the war, and this has shored up domestic political support for Putin; in fact, it seems as if the most substantial opposition to Putin comes from those who feel the war is not being waged hard enough – which should give everyone who is bellicose and buoyant on the war in the West pause. Do those present domestic political benefits to the Kremlin, along with Moscow’s middle finger to the US and NATO, outweigh the risks that come with forever conflict in Ukraine for Russia? Is the massive and catastrophic killing, suffering, and destruction, the forever obscene sorrow, horror, and guilt that will not end when the guns go silent, justifiable based on the acquisition of land destroyed, depopulated, and polluted?

The centenarian war criminal Henry Kissinger did get some things right. One of Kissinger’s most famous admonishments, lost on Democratic and Republican White Houses and American media over decades, is that you don’t judge a policy by how it starts but by how it ends. This supposed sole Russian option of pre-emptive invasion and occupation has put Russia into a position that might have met limited and immediate territorial objectives and solidified a storyline of defense against encroaching foreign powers, of which there is a good deal of truth. But with the death and the destruction, the consecration of NATO, and the future uncertainty and instability, how can it be argued that invasion was the best option, let alone the only option?

I understand others may say Russia had no other option, just as I can go and visit with many in DC who will continue to say Presidents Bush, Obama and Trump had no other options for their wars. Such a defense of Russia’s invasion comes to me as partisan and not principled, as seeking victory rather than peace and dismissing suffering for the sake of a narrative. It falls into the binary trap with which our political and media structures demand we accept. Either with us or against us, as George W. Bush would say.

However, there is always another option other than war. To allow ourselves to be banded into one of two camps is a betrayal of our intellectual and moral duties. “Neither King nor Kaiser!” the martyred Irish rebel James Connolly proclaimed. We can say No to NATO and Russia Out of Ukraine. We can oppose oligarchs in DC, London, Kyiv and Moscow. We can support the people of Ukraine and the people of Russia while condemning the war crimes of all governments. We can always find options other than war and we can always believe peace is possible.

Zionists in Distress: Israeli Deterrence Suffered Immensely in Jenin

Monday’s battle against the Israeli occupation in the Palestinian city and camp of Jenin rang bell with the Israeli occupation, as the eight-hour clashes echoed similar battles in Gaza and south Lebanon, a number of analyses indicated.

Details of the battle, as well as scenes which emerged on social media show how significant the clash was and how the Palestinian resistance managed to develop its capabilities and military tactics.

As they voiced concern over the significances behind the Israeli raid in Jenin, Israeli analysts described the battle as a “turning point.”

Air Power Used for First Time in 20 Years

“Monday’s battle was especially difficult and necessitated using an Apache attack helicopter to help extricate the wounded – the first time air power was used during an operation in Judea and Samaria in some 20 years since the Second Intifada,” The Jerusalem Post’s Herb Keinon wrote on Tuesday, referring to the Jewish name of the West Bank.

In an article entitled “Look at Jenin for a preview of what awaits the day after Abbas,” Keinon cited former OC Central Command Maj.-Gen. (ret.) Gadi Shamni who said that it is preferable to use ground forces rather than air power during West Bank raids.

“The reason for this is not solely because air power is so much more destructive but also because using air power against West Bank cities only builds up the Palestinian ethos,” he added.

For his part, Ynet’s Yossi Yehushua said that “Israel’s deterrence suffered greatly on Monday, when local residents from the refugee camp, took photos of themselves with parts of the military’s equipment that was left behind,” adding that this “will no doubt motivate terrorists further.”

West Bank Resembles Gaza, South Lebanon

The Israeli analyst added that the Israeli raid in Jenin “will be a turning point in the Israeli military’s operational conduct not only because of the hours it took to extract a troop carrier after it was damaged by an IED but because of the powerful explosive device that illustrates how the area is beginning to resemble South Lebanon” before the Israeli 2,000 withdrawal.

In an article entitled “The West Bank must not be allowed to resemble Gaza,” Yehushua described the militant activity in the West Bank as “an organized effort to deter” Israeli raids and bolster militant control, much like the situation in the Gaza Strip. Yehushua, in this context, emphasized that the Israeli occupation “must not allow this to happen and therefore must find an adequate response to the new and evolving challenges.”

Meanwhile, the JPost’s Khaled Abu Toameh said scenes of Palestinians celebrating with parts of Israeli armored vehicles damaged by explosive devices and Apache helicopters hovering over Jenin are likely to boost the popularity of the resistance groups, most of which are affiliated with Islamic Jihad and Hamas.

He noted that these images create the impression that the Israeli so-called counterterrorism operation, which began several months ago, has failed to eradicate the resistance groups.

“They also create the impression that certain parts of the West Bank, particularly Jenin, are beginning to resemble the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, where the IDF faced similar tactics by Palestinian terror groups and Hezbollah,” Abu Toameh wrote, referring to Israeli occupation forces, in an article entitled “Jenin looking more and more like Gaza, Lebanon.”

“Upgraded, Disturbing” Military Capabilities

On the other hand, Abu Toameh said that Monday’s clashes “are also seen to be an indication of the Palestinian armed groups’ success in upgrading and developing their military capabilities and warfare tactics,” noting that the resistance fighters seem to have gained a lot of experience as a result of almost daily clashes with Israeli security forces.

He quoted a Palestinian security source as saying that the number of fighters in Jenin and other parts of the northern West Bank, including Nablus, exceeded 1,500.

Talking about the military strength of the West Bank-based fighters, Keinon said that using the helicopter gunship to ensure the evacuation of the Israeli soldiers was a reminder to their military capabilities”.

“The fact that the IDF even needed to deploy the helicopter – and, in addition to firing a missile at the gunmen making the evacuation of the wounded difficult, also fired off flares as decoys against shoulder-launched anti-aircraft missiles – revealed the terrorist capabilities as well.”

“The type of roadside bomb used against the armored IDF vehicles in Jenin on Monday unveiled disturbing military capabilities. This was not only a lone-wolf terrorist shooting at IDF soldiers or passing civilian Israeli motorists. Rather, the building and detonation of this type of bomb indicate a terrorist infrastructure in Jenin of a different league,” Keinon added.

PA Lost Grip in West Bank

Furthermore, Monday’s battle revealed that the Palestinian Authority asserts no control in Jenin nor in the northern West Bank, according to the Israeli analysts.

“Jenin and the northern West Bank have been the focal point of terror against Israel over the last several months because there is no Palestinian governance or monopoly over the use of force there. A vacuum has been created, and in that vacuum, Hamas, Islamic Jihad and other terrorist organizations simply thrive,” Keinon wrote.

“Jenin today, where the PA has lost its grip, is a chilling preview of what is likely to emerge throughout the West Bank the day after Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas dies or can no longer continue in his current role,” Keinon added.

Yehushua agreed with Keinonin this regard. The analyst said the PA is unable to maintain control, adding that “the future does not bode well.”

He cited Israeli estimations that the “future may be worse since the Palestinian Authority is losing its control over more and more areas.”

After Palestinian Mahmoud Abbas is no longer in office, Hamas will execute its plan to take over power there, Yehushua warned.

After spotting IOF raiding special party, Jenin Brigade lured it into an ambush, and clashes erupted with Israeli reinforcements sent afterward.

The Israeli occupation forces raided Jenin early this morning resulting in violent confrontations with Resistance groups protecting the city from the aggression conducted regularly by the IOF.

According to Palestinian media, at least 13 Palestinian residents of the city have been wounded by live IOF fire as a result of the raid and have been transferred to the Jenin hospital.

The Jenin Brigade announced targeting the IOF with locally-made explosive devices causing significant damage to IOF raiding vehicles with a likelihood that they have also resulted in injuries amongst the raiding occupation forces as bullets continued to rain upon them following the explosions.

The Jenin Brigade announced that its members had successfully lured an IOF unit into an ambush “the likes of which it had not witnessed before,” adding that the Resistance reported “casualties”  amongst IOF ranks.

Video evidence showed Israeli raiding party vehicles being targeted by explosive devices.

Reports from inside Jenin underscored that the Red Star of David has been sighted in the vicinity of the fire exchange zone where multiple IOF vehicles were targeted with locally-made IEDs.

Moreover, Al-Quds Brigades -Jenin Brigades announced in a military statement that Resistance fighters “continue to target the IOF storming the Al-Jabriyat and the Al-Hadaf neighborhood with intensive fire and improvised explosive devices that are resulting in injuries.”

Al Mayadeen correspondent reported The number of injuries in Jenin camp so far has reached 14, 3 of which are in critical condition.

Our correspondent added that confrontations are still ongoing till this moment.

IOF military complicit with settlers to aggravate Huwara attack: CNN

A month-long investigation by CNN into the Israeli settlers’ attack on Huwara reveals that the Israeli occupation forces not only failed to prevent the acts of terror on the Palestinian town but were also involved in prolonging and aiding the aggression on Palestinians.

The attacks, which took place on the night of February 26, led to the martyrdom of one Palestinian and the injury of more than a hundred. In addition, the illegal Israeli settlers were intent on burning down the properties of Palestinians in the area including their houses, stores, and cars.

The occupation’s military commander in the West Bank called it a “pogrom” and admitted that the military had not adequately prepared for such attacks.

CNN based its investigation on videos, testimonies, and interviews which revealed that the IOF troops did nothing to prevent the attacks and even responded to the retaliation by Palestinians with tear gas and stun grenades.

The report also highlighted the role of right-wing extremist groups, settler organizations, and several Israeli politicians in instigating and promoting the violence against Huwara.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed that at least six Palestinians were martyred in the Jenin refugee camp and several others were injured in confrontations with Israeli occupation forces as the latter simultaneously stormed Nablus, where it arrested a number of Palestinians.

Al Mayadeen correspondent in the West Bank later confirmed the martyrdom of Abd Al-Fattah Kharrousha, whom the occupation forces accuse of being behind the Huwara operation.

Our correspondent stated that the six martyrs belong to the Jenin Brigade of Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades and that they confronted the Israeli raid down to their last breath.

She also reported that the bodies of a number of martyrs were recovered from inside the house that the IOF had besieged Jenin, noting that the occupation forces were gradually withdrawing from the camp, about two hours after the raid.

Local Palestinian sources said a special Israeli force infiltrated the outskirts of Jenin using a camouflaged truck, while military vehicles headed from the Al-Jalama checkpoint toward the camp to besiege a house belonging to the family of martyr Amjad Al-Azmi.

Al Mayadeen correspondent in occupied Palestine confirmed that the occupation forces targeted ambulances and used Palestinians as human shields during the raid.

According to medical sources, three injuries by Israeli gunfire arrived at Jenin Hospital, while the Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed the martyrdom of 26-year-old Mohammad Ghazzawi after being shot in the chest.

Journalist and political activist Mujahid Al-Saadi said Palestinian Resistance fighters shot down an occupation drone in Jenin while freedom fighter Jamal Hwail told Al Mayadeen that a second Israeli drone was shot down, adding that Israeli Apache helicopters are carrying out overflights in the airspace of Jenin.

In a statement, Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades said its fighters are still targeting the occupation forces and their special units in the Jenin camp with bullets and explosive devices.

The Brigades said a number of its fighters were martyred while confronting the crimes of the occupation and reported several injuries among occupation forces, stressing that the Israeli crimes will be answered in “Tel Aviv”.

The spokesperson for the Palestinian Presidency, Nabil Abu Rudeineh, said today, Tuesday, that “the daily killings committed by the Israeli occupation forces against the Palestinian people, the latest of which took place today in the Jenin camp, is an all-out war and amount to a full-scale systematic destruction.”

He pointed out that the crime committed by the occupation forces reaffirms the occupation government’s endeavor to thwart all regional and international efforts aimed at stopping such actions.

The Palestinian Presidency Spokesperson called on the US administration to take immediate action and put effective pressure on the Israeli occupation government to stop its crimes and continued aggression against Palestinians.

He stressed that resolving the Palestinian issue in accordance with international law and giving the Palestinian people their right to freedom and independence is key to resolving the region’s crises.

On its part, the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said today that the massacres and attacks of the Israeli occupation in Jenin and Nablus confirm that the IOF have opted for escalation, holding the Israeli occupation responsible for the repercussions of this escalation on the arena of ongoing struggle.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health pronounces dead the Palestinian youth Omar Al-Saadi, who was critically injured during the Jenin massacre.

Palestinian martyr Omar Al-Saadi

The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced on Sunday the martyrdom of Palestinian youth Omar Al-Saadi after he succumbed to the injuries that he sustained last Thursday during the massacre that the Israeli occupation committed at Jenin refugee camp, north of the occupied West Bank.

According to the Ministry, Al-Saadi, 24, was critically injured by Israeli bullets during the Israeli occupation raid on Jenin and was pronounced dead this evening.

Al-Saadi’s death brings up the number of martyrs in the Jenin massacre to 10 Palestinians.

It is noteworthy that following the Jenin massacre, Palestinian presidential Spokesperson Nabil Abu Rudeineh said the Palestinian authorities have officially decided to halt the so-called “security” coordination with “Israel” and contact the UN Security Council.

Following the bloody raid, Israeli occupation police announced on Friday that seven illegal Israeli settlers were killed and at least 10 others were wounded in the aftermath of a shooting that took place in Nabi Yaqub, occupied Al-Quds. And on Saturday, two settlers were seriously injured in a shooting attack in Silwan, occupied Al-Quds.

Israeli security min cancels US visit, PM rushes to shooting scene

Israeli media reports that premier Benjamin Netanyahu headed to the scene of the shooting in occupied Al-Quds amid reports about assessment of security situation.

Israeli occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived at the scene of the shooting in occupied Al-Quds late Friday, Israeli media reported after having previously said there would be an assessment of the situation in the Israeli occupation.

In the aftermath of the shooting, Israeli Security Minister Yoav Galant, who was on his way to the United States as part of an official visit, announced that he was interrupting his visit to the US and getting aboard the first flight heading toward occupied Palestine.

Israeli Walla! columnist and military affairs commentator Amir Bohbot said that in light of the shooting in Al-Quds, Galant was “receiving regular operational reports” from the IOF.

He also said that it was expected for the Security Minister to conduct a special assessment of the situation with the chief of staff and the director of the Shin Bet, as well as other security officials. “He is on his way to Israel.”

Ben-Gvir to blame

Far-right extremist Israeli occupation Police Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir arrived at the scene where the shooting took place, and he was received by Israeli settlers chanting against him and saying he was to blame for what happened in occupied Al-Quds. “The attack took place under your watch.”

Ben-Gvir, surrounded by armed security guards, told the settlers should instead chant “death to the saboteurs.”

Former Israeli occupation forces spokesperson Ronen Manelis said: “this terrible night reminds that this state has many complex and dangerous challenges that we must formulate a strategy against.”

He also went on to highlight the importance of “working in broad national coordination and consensus instead of quarreling every day over many things that are simply much less important at the moment.”

Former Israeli Knesset speaker and incumbent MK Mickey Levy mourned the illegal settlers, saying “the news coming from Al-Quds are heart-wrenching” and the reports coming from there are “heartbreaking.”

Levy offered his condolences “to the families who lost their loved ones tonight,” lauding all “security forces, who know very well what an arduous task they are doing at this time,” and wishing for “calm days” to return.

Shooting came before Blinken visit

The shooting took place days before a planned visit by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to occupied Palestine, and the state department was quick to condemn the attack, though it said there were no changes regarding Blinken’s travel plans.

Moreover, the US State Department issued a statement on Thursday, saying it was “deeply concerned” with the violence in the occupied West Bank, urging both the Israeli aggressors and the Palestinian victims to “de-escalate the conflict.”

Several illegal Israeli settlers were killed and a dozen others were wounded in the aftermath of a shooting that took place in Nabi Yaqub, occupied Al-Quds, Israeli media reported on Friday.

“Several Israelis were killed during an attack in Al-Quds, but the exact figures cannot be determined,” Israeli Channel 13 reported, noting that the Magen David Adom (the Red Star of David) announced that there were more than five dead, with 12 others wounded.

Israeli Channel 12 military correspondent Nir Dvori said the shooting in Al-Quds “may be related to what happened in Jenin – an act of retaliation.”

The IOF raided the Jenin camp in occupied Palestine’s West Bank early on Thursday morning, leaving residents and popular resistance groups with no choice but to defend themselves and confront the occupation forces.

The Palestinian Health Ministry reported that there were 20 injuries as a result of live munition from the Israeli occupation forces, including three civilians in critical condition while adding that there were dozens of suffocations as a result of the IOF raiding the Jenin Governmental Hospital.

The IOF prevented ambulance crews from accessing the Jenin Camp, opening fire directly on the emergency vehicles, the health ministry said. Meanwhile, photos and videos taken in the camp showed the level of destruction and havoc that the IOF caused all over the refugee camp.

Ramallah revealed that taking the martyrs that rose on Thursday in Jenin into account, the camp has lost 19 people due to Israeli aggression since the start of the year.

10 “Israeli” Settlers Killed in Heroic Shooting Op. Outside Synagogue in Al-Quds

By Staff, Agencies

At least 10 “Israeli” settlers were killed in a heroic shooting operation outside a synagogue in the holy occupied city of al-Quds.

Many others were also wounded during the incident that took place on Friday, a day after the “Israeli” Occupation Forces [IOF] troops raided the city of Jenin and its neighboring refugee camp in the north of the occupied West Bank, martyring nine Palestinians.

The Palestinian man, Khairi Al-Alkam, was behind the heroic operation.

The Palestinian resistance movement of Hamas has praised the operation as “a response to the crime conducted by the occupation in Jenin and a natural response to the occupation’s criminal actions.”

The operation was also welcomed by the Islamic Jihad.

The Jenin raid saw scores of “Israeli” armored vehicles, which were packed with the regime’s troops, attacking the city, opening fire on the Palestinian youths, who were trying to block the invading forces’ way.

The raid turned Thursday into the deadliest single day so far for Palestinians in the current year.

Including the raid’s fatalities, the regime has shot and martyred at least 30 Palestinians throughout 2023.

Later during the day, thousands of mourners flooded Jenin’s streets carrying the bodies of the martyrs overhead, and chanting slogans against the occupying regime.

Gaza fires two rockets towards Israeli settlements (Social media)

The director of Al Mayadeen’s office in occupied Palestine reported, on Thursday night, that sirens sounded in the settlements surrounding the Gaza Strip including Askalan, which is one of the occupied Palestinian cities.

According to information reported and confirmed by our correspondent, the Palestinian Resistance in Gaza fired two missiles toward occupied Askalan.

Death toll increases following Jenin raid

The number of martyrs who died as a result of the Israeli raid on the Jenin camp has increased to 10, including one Palestinian woman, Al Mayadeen‘s correspondent to the occupied West Bank reported on Thursday, noting that there were ongoing confrontations between the Israeli occupation forces and Palestinian youths all over the occupied Palestinian territory.

The IOF raided the Jenin camp in occupied Palestine’s West Bank early on Thursday morning, leaving residents and popular resistance groups with no choice but to defend themselves and confront the occupation forces.

The Palestinian Health Ministry reported that there were 20 injuries as a result of live fire from the Israeli occupation forces, including three civilians who were in critical condition, while adding that there were dozens of suffocations as a result of the IOF raiding the Jenin Government Hospital.

The IOF prevented ambulance crews from accessing the Jenin Camp, opening fire directly on the emergency vehicles, the health ministry said. Meanwhile, photos and videos taken in the camp showed the level of destruction and havoc that the IOF caused all over.

Ramallah revealed that taking the martyrs of Jenin into account, the camp has lost 19 people due to Israeli aggression since the start of the year.

The Jenin Brigade revealed that it responded to the Israeli occupation’s aggression in the refugee camp using small arms and improvised weaponry, however, the resistance faction emphasized that there were numerous injuries among the ranks of the IOF.

The Lions’ Den Promises the ‘Israeli’ Enemy with Astonishing, Tough Strikes

November 3, 2022

By Al-Ahed New

The Palestinian Lions’ Den resistance group promised the Zionist enemy that it will be astonished amid the blows dealt by the resistance fighters, and underlined that the enemy is delusional to think that the fire of the den has been extinguished.

In a statement published on Tuesday evening, the group mourned its heroic martyrs, and threatened the ‘Israeli’ occupation with shocking and fierce strikes, reminding it with the hundreds of casualties upon the assassination of Martyr Raed al-Karmi. “We will surprise you in Jenin, al-Khalil, Nablus, and Ramallah, and you will be shocked with the power of our strikes.”

“You are delusional, and all those who think that our fire has been extinguished are also delusional, we are an active volcano,” the statement went on to say.

As for the resistance fighters, whether from the Lions’ Den, other blessed resistance factions, or the lone wolves, the statement urged them to strike the enemy everywhere.

We will keep our pledge and promise, the Lions’ Den concluded.
